Bristol Zoological Society, the conservation and education charity that runs and operates Bristol Zoo Project (previously Wild Place Project), higher education programmes and conservation projects across the world, is recruiting an Engagement & Learning Officer. The Public Engagement & Learning team leads an innovative programme of formal and informal engagement, including schools’ education, daily animal talks, exhibit interpretation, wellbeing activities and public programming such as trails.

Whether visiting with their family or their school, we aim to inspire our visitors to become part of the solution to the pressures facing wildlife and ecosystems.

You will have broad experience developing high-quality learning materials for all abilities and ages, and knowledge of education and communication techniques. You will have experience running targeted engagement programmes for hard-to-reach audiences such as those facing mental health challenges, global majority or those not in education, employment or training. You will have highly developed organisational and communication skills. You will be proactive, friendly, approachable, able to respond to a wide variety of audiences, and equally happy engaging a small family group or addressing a large audience in peak periods. As Bristol Zoo Project operates seven days a week, you will expect to work regular weekends on a rota.

With a new strategy in place to create a world-class Bristol Zoo and conservation and sustainability at its heart, the new Bristol Zoo Project will offer spacious, modern facilities, significant growth in our conservation and education work, and an innovative and exciting visitor experience.

The role will help to realise our vision of saving wildlife together, and you will be involved in supporting our transformation programme – driving visitor numbers at Bristol Zoo Project and excitement as plans for the new Zoo progress.
