As the Operations Manager, this is an exceptional opportunity for your capabilities, enthusiasm, and experience to make a real impact at one of the leading energy technology companies working on major, strategic government projects in a world class facility.

This role is based at our Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) in Whetstone (Leicester). This state-of-the-art facility plays a crucial role in de-risking present and future platforms, energy and propulsion technologies, micro grids and associated systems and solutions for both surface ships and submarines in the UK Defence industry.

As the Operations Manager you will :

Act as a central responsible owner and operations lead between the facility and UK P&L Defence Operations and PM teams to drive operating rhythm with respect to safety ,quality ,delivery and cost.

As the successful candidate for defence project you will need: To be a sole national British citizen and have a valid UK passport, with the ability to attain SC clearance (UK Eyes Only) and a valid full UK driving license.

This role requires to be working 5 days a week onsite

Job Description

Reporting to the Marine Power Test Facility (MPTF) Director as part of the MPTF leadership team you will:

  • Work closely with the business line project managers and other unit operations leaders provide Overall co-ordination and planning of the facility /programs, resources and project managers across the multiple projects executed at MPTF with respect to SQDC holistically across multiple programs as best for business.
  • Own the integrated site program and co-ordination / optimisation with the business project planners under an operating rhythm.
  • Day to day lead the delivery of the MPTF operations in line with the program, regulatory requirements and business needs.
  • Management of the site security team & requirements working alongside the site and UK Security leadership lead wrt to corporate and Government security compliance, and capability improvements for MPTF.
  • Co-ordination of requirements and delivery of site IT / OT infrastructure, with the UK P&L IT leadership team.
  • Support tenders and ITO / business development from enquiry to order with respect to capacity planning, budgeting , estimation for use of the facility.
  • Drive optimisation and utilisation of the facility regards available resources both physical and people.
  • Drive continuous improvement, quality and accountability alongside lean methodology in the operationalisation of the facility and programs.
  • Working closely with the EHS , facility and project teams, be responsible for Maintaining metrics and performance goals including energy usage , regulatory requirements and reporting.
  • Drive OTD, facility management, maintenance needs, develop business cases for CAPEX investments, infrastructure improvements , ensuring regulatory compliance and action planning / tracking is managed on time and to cost.
  • Provide leadership and skills development of facility managers, site administration, PM’s and operational support functions.
  • Develop and Own the business continuity plan
  • Working closely with the business PMO ensuring Quality processes, operational excellence alignment of the MPTF process are compliant and align with corporate processes and procedures.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • HND / Degree or higher in related Engineering discipline (Electrical Power, Electronics, Mechanical or Control systems)
  • Engineering Project management experience / qualifications.
  • The applicant must be a sole national British citizen and have a valid UK passport, ability to attain SC clearance (UK Eyes Only) and a valid full UK driving license.
  • Working 5 days a week onsite

Desired characteristics:

  • A proven track record and depth of experience managing facilities operations in the defence infrastructure, R&D , Nuclear MOD Aerospace / Naval, oil and gas, power / electrification industry’s / Government Linked Projects / catapult Programs.
  • Experience in working on MOD Test sites, facilities / naval yards / R&D / Infrastructure environments
  • Working on Strategic Government Programs
  • Excellent technical and problem-solving skills and reasoning ability.
  • Extensive communication and interpersonal skills to enable collaboration and decision making across a broad range of stakeholders at all levels and functions across the business and customer community.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • A proven track record with demonstrated experience of working in an operational, planning and coordination focused role
  • Must be self-motivated and a great team worker
  • Health & Safety experience - a good understanding of running site operations
