About Us
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team of over 1,400 employees and over 28,000 volunteers, united by our goal of saving lives through essential first aid services, training and campaigning. As a charity with rich heritage and a long history of serving humanity, we are proud of our past and excited about creating a healthier, safer, more resilient future.
St John Ambulance works at the heart of communities, supporting and enabling them to access and receive physical and mental health first aid. We do this through developing and providing effective community response and outreach services (e.g. Ambulance response) and using our longstanding expertise to empower people with vital clinical skills and the confidence to use them (e.g. our Volunteers and Community Advocates, and Young Responders programmes).
Job Summary
You are the first point of contact for patient transport requests, dealing with inquiries from patients, relatives, care staff or agencies, managing calls within the Operations Centre as part of a team of operatives. Your role is pivotal in rostering our clinical staff to undertake their frontline duties, maximising our coverage and reach and minimising wastage and inefficiencies. You will be a trouble shooter and be capable of working under pressure with a self-starter approach and with the ability to work on your own from time to time.
You will handle sensitive and confidential information and must be able to handle incoming calls professionally and efficiently.
About You
You will be educated to GCSE level or equivalent (Grade C / 4) including Maths & English (minimum 5), have a experience in working within a team in a customer facing environment, experience in working with and handling volunteer and employee queries and experience in office administration.
About the Role
- Provide effective telephone answering to the general public, healthcare professionals, emergency services, SJA people and other agencies as requested.
- Provide quotations to customers / potential customers of SJA, ensuring that all quotations are clearly logged on the system, allocated to the appropriate resource and – where needed – additional crew, vehicles or logistics support is sought
- Maintain, and help to produce, a seamless rota system for frontline crews and managers, finding cover for gaps caused by sickness, annual leave or vacancy shortages.
