Job Summary

The Studio Team Leader plays a hands-on role in retouching artwork while supporting the smooth daily running of the Studio. This position combines practical artwork responsibilities with day-to-day coordination, including job allocation, troubleshooting, helping team members meet deadlines and quality standards. The role ensures artwork is delivered accurately, efficiently, and in line with our print requirements.

Working hours: 39 hours per week, Monday to Friday. You'll get 22 days of holiday per year, increasing with length of service up to a maximum of 27 days (plus bank holidays).

Key Responsibilities

Artwork Repro

  • Create, amend, and prepare artwork from customer briefs and supplied artwork to produce accurate, print-ready files.
  • Ensure all artwork meets Label Apeel’s technical, colour, and print specifications.
  • Carry out quality checks on files before release to Production.
  • Support more complex or technical artwork queries/tasks as needed.

Daily Workflow & Job Allocation

  • Allocate incoming artwork jobs to the team based on workload, deadlines, and skillset.
  • Keep track of progress throughout the day and adjust allocations when priorities change.

Technical Support & Problem Solving

  • Assist team members with artwork queries, technical challenges, or print-related issues.
  • Troubleshoot artwork problems and ensure they are resolved quickly to keep the department moving.
  • Escalate any larger or recurring issues to the Studio Manager.

Communication & Collaboration

  • Liaise with Customer Service to clarify briefs, confirm specifications, or resolve artwork queries.
  • Work closely with Production/Pre-Press to ensure artwork is prepared correctly before handed over.
  • Communicate clearly with the team about priorities, deadlines, and workflow changes.

Team Support

  • Provide day-to-day support and guidance to designers/artworkers.
  • Help integrate and support new team members by sharing processes, best practices, and technical knowledge.
  • Promote a positive, organised, and solution-focused studio environment.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Education: GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
  • Strong background in artwork creation, design, pre-press, or print production.
  • Solid understanding of print processes, colour management, and label/packaging artwork.
  • Ability to balance hands-on artwork tasks with workflow coordination.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven studio environment.

Software Packages

  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator and Photoshop).
  • ESKO Automation Engine knowledge would be beneficial
