OPEN TO LOUGHBOROUGH UNIVERSITY POSTGRADUATE RESEARCH STUDENTS ONLY

Voluntary Subwarden – Butler Court Hall

A vacancy has arisen for a Subwarden to join the existing team within Butler Court Hall of Residence. Applications are invited from postgraduate (doctoral) research students at the University. The post will provisionally start in January 2026.

Accommodation and Catering Arrangements

Free accommodation is available during term time. The accommodation available is single occupancy only and has simple self-catering facilities available. Allowance is made for some free meals during term time.

Duties

Subwardens assist the Warden in the day to day running of the Hall. This may involve pastoral, disciplinary, and administrative duties as well as being involved in social aspects of Hall life. The successful applicant will be part of a team which provides out-of-hours emergency cover in a Hall of around 300 students and will help to ensure the smooth running of the hall.

Personal Attributes

Candidates must display a high level of personal organisational ability, good administrative ability, leadership qualities, be sociable, and a good team player. Subwardens are expected to demonstrate a commitment to the community spirit of the Hall and a willingness to engage with students and Hall life in general. As such the successful applicant would be expected to mix with Hall students where possible and participate in Hall events.

It is very important to find out what you are committing yourself to and to understand what is involved. All applicants are required to find out more about the Hall community as it forms an integral part of the selection process. The successful applicant must be available to attend Subwarden training sessions in early January 2026, and undertake first aid, mental health first aid, and fire safety training when the courses are available.

Application Procedures

It is highly recommended that prospective candidates contact the Warden and the current Subwardens to find out about Hall life and the likely duties during the application process. Interested applicants will be invited to look around and attend a meeting to discuss the post prior to close of applications.
