Full job description

Residential House Manager

Kensington

Essential Requirements: Previous private house experience, strong communication skills, “hands-on”, adaptable, pet friendly.

Accommodation is provided in the form of a private one-bedroom suite within the main house, featuring its own entrance, kitchen, sitting room, and bathroom. Live-out candidates are welcome to apply and will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The general work schedule is Monday-Friday, with variable after-hours and weekend work as needed for events, etc. Salary is competitive and negotiable depending on experience, expected to be in the region of £50,000–£55,000.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and versatile House Manager to oversee the smooth running of a prestigious private residence in Kensington. Working closely with a small, established team including a chef and housekeeper, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of the household and its operations.

This includes administrative oversight, including budgeting and expense tracking, supervision and coordination of staff, managing inventories, ordering supplies, and ensuring the property is maintained to the highest standard. A significant aspect of the role involves planning and executing events ranging from intimate gatherings of around 14 guests to large-scale receptions of up to 120 attendees. Smaller events typically occur once or twice weekly, with larger occasions held one to two times per month; you will be expected to source and manage additional temporary staff as required.

The residence comprises elegant formal and private spaces, including a large entry hall, library, dining room, drawing room, open entertaining areas, guest suites, and further accommodation, as well as a garden and patio designed for outdoor functions. Good technical proficiency is essential, with the ability to operate and oversee systems such as CCTV, security controls, and Sonos.

This position requires a professional who is confident in a leadership capacity yet equally willing to be “hands-on” providing front-of-house support, meal service, offering butler and/or valet service when needed, and ensuring guests receive an impeccable reception.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, discretion, and the ability to navigate both formal occasions and personal household matters with sensitivity, confidence, and adaptability.
