Vehicle Inspector & Purchaser

Location: Pro Cars, Unit 3, 158 Dukes Road, London W3 0SLSalary: £30,000 per year starting salary, with opportunity for progressionJob Type: Full-timeWorking Pattern: 6 days per week

About Pro Cars

Pro Cars is an established used car dealership based in West London. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced and confident Vehicle Inspector & Purchaser to join our buying team.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone with strong automotive knowledge who can accurately appraise vehicles, identify mechanical and cosmetic issues, and negotiate effectively to secure the right vehicles at the right prices.

The Role

Your primary responsibility will be to inspect, appraise, negotiate and purchase used vehicles from private sellers, dealerships and trade contacts throughout the UK.

You will travel to vehicle inspections using public transport. Once a suitable vehicle has been inspected, agreed and purchased, you will drive the vehicle back to our dealership in West London.

You will be trusted to make informed purchasing decisions on behalf of the business. You must therefore be able to assess a vehicle accurately, estimate potential preparation and repair costs, identify faults and determine whether the vehicle represents a suitable purchase for Pro Cars.

Negotiation is a major part of this position. We are looking for someone who is confident dealing directly with sellers and is capable of using their inspection findings and market knowledge to negotiate effectively and achieve the best possible purchase price.

When there are no scheduled inspections or collections, you will assist with the general day-to-day running of the dealership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Travel throughout the UK to inspect potential vehicle purchases.
  • Carry out comprehensive vehicle inspections and test drives.
  • Accurately appraise vehicles and assess their overall condition.
  • Inspect engines, gearboxes, suspension, brakes, tyres, bodywork, interiors and electrical systems.
  • Use professional diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Check service history, documentation and general vehicle provenance.
  • Identify required repairs and estimate likely preparation and refurbishment costs.
  • Ensure vehicles considered for purchase meet Pro Cars’ required standards.
  • Negotiate directly with private sellers, dealerships and trade contacts.
  • Purchase suitable vehicles within agreed budgets.
  • Drive purchased vehicles safely back to our West London dealership.
  • Complete accurate inspection information and purchase records.
  • Communicate clearly with management regarding vehicle condition, faults, costs and purchase recommendations.
  • Move and organise vehicles around the showroom and dealership.
  • Assist with preparing stock for sale when required.
  • Support the general day-to-day operation of the dealership when not carrying out vehicle inspections or collections.

What We Are Looking For

  • Previous experience in vehicle buying, vehicle appraisal, vehicle inspection or used car sales is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of used vehicles and the motor trade.
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge and ability to identify potential faults.
  • Experience using professional vehicle diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to accurately assess vehicle condition and likely preparation costs.
  • Strong negotiation and deal-closing skills.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of vehicle values.
  • Confidence dealing with private sellers and motor-trade professionals.
  • Ability to make sensible and confident purchasing decisions.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and highly organised.
  • Comfortable travelling extensively throughout the UK.
  • Flexible approach to working hours due to the nature of vehicle inspections and collections.
  • Full UK driving licence with a clean driving record.

Salary & Working Hours

Starting salary: £30,000 per year

There will be opportunities for salary progression based on performance, experience and increased responsibility within the business.

This is a full-time, 6-day-per-week position. Working hours may vary depending on the location and timing of vehicle inspections, purchases and collections.

All authorised business travel expenses will be covered by Pro Cars.

Apply

If you have strong automotive knowledge, excellent vehicle appraisal skills and the confidence to negotiate and purchase vehicles on behalf of a growing used car dealership, we would like to hear from you.

Please apply with your CV and details of your previous automotive experience.
