A teaching assistant resignation letter is the same as any other resignation letter but is specifically for those working in a teaching assistant (TA) role. Resignation letters are professional documents that signify your intention to leave your current position. They also commonly outline the reason for leaving if permissible to do so and thank the institution for their employment.

Teaching assistant resignation letters are especially important as they provide the affected classroom with enough time to find a suitable replacement between the date of receiving the letter and the TA's final date of work. 1. Start with a heading

The beginning of any resignation letter includes a heading. This heading states your full name and any relevant contact information such as an email address or phone number. The heading is also where you date the letter to signify when you wrote it. If you're sending a resignation letter via email, ensure that your subject line is professional and signifies the content of the letter. For example, 'Your name - letter of resignation'. If you intend to send a physical letter, always include the following on the envelope:

  • the name of the recipient

  • the position of the recipient

  • the name of the school

2. State your intention to resign

Following on from the heading, you now state your intention to resign. Write this as clearly as possible to avoid confusion on the school's behalf. It's not mandatory to share a reason for your departure, but you may do so if you wish. If you do decide to share your reasoning, ensure that you don't slander or insult the school while doing so. This ensures that you end the professional partnership on amicable terms.

When stating your intention to resign from the position of TA, ensure that you include all of the relevant information. This includes when you intend to work your last day. You may also wish to inform your students when your last day is so that they have proper time to adjust, though this is typically done in person as opposed to in the letter. It's useful to do this in the event you wish to return to the school at a later date or require a reference from them. You may also wish to mention a few of your favourite events or memories throughout your employment.
