Full job description

Job Summary: We are seeking a reliable and experienced HGV Class 2 Driver to join our team. As a HGV Class 2 Driver, you will be responsible for transporting goods and materials to various locations. This is a great opportunity for someone with commercial driving experience who enjoys being on the road.

Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate a truck to transport goods and materials to designated locations
  • Load and unload cargo as needed
  • Follow all traffic laws and regulations
  • Inspect vehicles for mechanical issues and perform basic maintenance tasks
  • Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, and fuel usage
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers and other team members
  • Adhere to company policies and procedures

Requirements:

  • Eligibility: Be at least 18 years old and hold a valid UK car (Category B) driving license.
  • Medical: Pass a medical examination with the DVLA to ensure fitness for heavy vehicle driving.
  • Provisional License: Apply for a provisional Category C license (forms D2 & D4).
  • Theory Tests: Pass the LGV theory tests, including multiple-choice, hazard perception, and CPC case studies.
  • Driver CPC: Complete Driver Certificate of Professional Competence training and tests (theory, case studies, practical driving, and practical demonstration).
  • Practical Training & Test: Undertake practical training for rigid vehicles (7.5-32 tonnes) and pass the final practical driving test.

Essential Skills:

  • Vehicle Handling: Excellent control of large, rigid lorries.
  • Safety & Regulations: Strong focus on road safety and knowledge of the Highway Code.
  • Time Management: Organizing routes and schedules efficiently.
  • Communication: Good verbal skills for dealing with customers and employers.
  • Patience & Calmness: Ability to stay focused and calm under pressure.
