Food Production Operative (Former Employee) - Leicester - 3 May 2022
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedYep the hours are long, and it’s hard work! But you only get out of life what you put in to it. The pay is great but if you don’t enjoy the job and the management experience your gaining you won’t be able to stick it out. It’s not all about money. Excellent management training straight out of uni. Great pay, great car, great additional benefits - but the management experience is the real benefit. The more experienced you become the better your work life balance gets.

Treated like dirt.
Factory Operative (Former Employee) - Leicester - 6 November 2019
If your a pretty female, you will get an easy job in the factory or you may get to be a staff co-ordinator.
Otherwise, you are doomed. Cost-cutting and wage budgeting is the manner in which they continuously profit. This comes at the expense of employees who have to do 2 person's job because they are reluctant to pay for extra staff even when desperately needed.
Ridiculous health and safety practices left a (permanent) employee requiring an emergency helicopter in one of the factories(which Samworth Brothers is brushing under the carpet).
Shifts get cancelled last minute and they make up an excuse so you are left with no work quite often.

Good Working Environment
Production Operative Relief Team leader (Former Employee) - Leicester - 18 July 2017
This company is a good working environment, pleasant staff and customers, the hardest part of this job is the long hours, although co-workers make the shifts enjoyable.

If your looking to get into work fast then this is the place to go. It might not be the best paid place of work but they always have work to offer you.

Ok if you need the money
Food Production Operative (Former Employee) - Melton Foods - 15 May 2016
Forced to sign up by A4e/PeoplePlus or be sanctioned, having to pay transport to get to the location.
Shift advertised as 10pm-6am, was actually 9:30 to 5:30, 30min break not paid.
Staff on location in high care expect you to know what to do and how to do it "up to standard", even if you've ever been in food production before. Standing up entire shift.
Felt isolated because no one around me spoke clear English.
Only did 7 shifts across 3 weeks before moving on.
If you need the money, it's ok, minimum wage.
Cons
No paid breaks, have to pay if you can't travel to locations

Its not to bad
agency operative (Former Employee) - Leicester - 22 April 2016
busy u go in and keep busy from start to finish, they can put u in various factorys around leicester dealing with food. iv learned alot when it come to making fresh cakes and dealing with meat. the hardest job would be hygiene. but the most enjoyable aspect would be how quick ur days go through being busy.

Good and Bad
On site Co-ordinator (Current Employee) - Leicester - 8 March 2016
Good to provide work
Can't promise how the long the work period is going to last for.
Sometimes you can get a 2 day worth of job and at times you can get 6 times.

Good workplace.
Day labourer (Current Employee) - Leicester - 26 April 2015
The hours can be a bit unstable for example one day you maybe working 10 hours and the next you may get a call to tell you there is no work. I've gone as many as 2 weeks without work from them before. However once you've been working for them for 3 months you do get a new 7 and a half hour contract.
Pros
Free coffee in the cafeteria after 6:30pm
Cons
Inconsistent hours
