Driver

Indeed featured review

Overal it is good place to work. New wagons and most of tbe trailers. Most days you decide what time you start. Some days are long shifts up to 13-14 hours. Sometimes they try to compensate with less hours next day. Downside is that there is salary and working 60h/week gives you less than 10p/h which is not great these days.

Excellent wages - have to work for it.

AW Jenkinson is a good place to work as a driver. The wages are on par but you will struggle to work them out as you are paid a basic rate then 20% of what your truck makes.Equipment is good and they have no problems getting trailers in and sorting the problem immediately. Work is ok if you are prepared to graft, can be a bit dirty/smelly at times. Management in some offices needs looked at, but majority of planners are spot on.

Pros

Good money

Cons

Long hours, time away from home

Soap opera on wheels

Work every hour they can get out you.48 hours wtd means nothingI found it to be like being back at school the way the managers spoke to you.The transport clerks were all the drivers who crawled there way into the office. They didn't have a clue

Pros

New lorry

Cons

Poor managers and traffic Clarks

Dirty work for little money

Planners want you to run your hours out 15 hrs three times a week every week. Money sounds good (£700 take home) however for the hours you'll do this equates to £8.33 an hour.Every place you'll go is different so you're never sure about the procedure for the sites , virtually impossible to stay clean and with the workload you don't have time for a shower unless you can get to a Jenkinson site. In short jobs like these are the reason for driver shortages.

Pros

Can't say there are any

Cons

The job.

Hgv driver

One of the easiest jobs out there , can be dirty/dusty but apart from that as long as you keep your head down and get on your left alone. Been here 3.5 years and can’t see me leaving anytime soon

Pros

Excellent kit, ok money

Cons

Can be late finish on a Friday

Good company

If you want to make money you need to be maximum weight and do maximum hrs. Wages should be better for the job you are doing. You get 20 percent of what the lorry makes but they don't tell you how much each job is where they should be. You could be waiting an hour to get loaded and an hour to get tipped or longer that's 10 hrs a week you don't get payed for. Some planners don't have a clue how to run the lorries. Asked to break the law when it suits ie weight. Could be a much better company to work for if management got there finger out.

Pros

Own lorry and trailer so not changing all the time.

Cons

Maximum hrs

Not the best place I've worked

I found work/life balance is non existence, The place is very understaffed and no flexibility for working environment. Health and Safety is atrocious. I was never given any induction, health and safety or any PPE.

HGV Class 1 walking floors

Working from Penrith depot four nights out per week, early starts, sometimes late finishes, can be dirty work delivering forest products, waste amongst other things. Good quality vehicles, Volvos and Scania, good quality trailers, well maintained, good salary, overnight parking paid. Left up to you to do the jobs. Easy work after the first few months.

Pros

Good vehicles, trailers and wages.

Cons

Bit too far to travel.
