It’s a dirty job. But someone’s got to do it.
Hgv driver (Current Employee) - Runcorn, Cheshire - 15 February 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedCompany is great. Money paid on time every week. Expect £770 tramping walking floors £640 days or £680 nights. Chipliners Tramping depends on your planner. They all have the same work to cover and some of them just have waste. So lots of tooing and froing from same sites. Some planners have some good distance work but personally I found it a bit monotonous.

poor man management and poor pay.
Class 1 C + E Articulated Driver (Former Employee) - Sittingbourne - 11 June 2023
Never paid the correct money and always over worked. Poor management, and would never work for this company again. Since I started working for them, I had nothing but constant problems with my pay and HR were never helpful. I did overtime, and the money just never worked out correct from week to week. Really disappointed with my experience, and would not recommend them as a company to work for.

They don't care
LGV 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Chippenham, Wiltshire - 23 April 2023
Really poor management and planners have no idea what the job is like and what you do. They want to much from you with poor training given. Expected to wear your own cloths to work in no uniform given for some time after starting. Plan you no where near Facilities to wash so your often go through week with no showers. Expect you to contuine drivibg a lorry with issues like airleaks or bold tyres. Will leave you a letter terminating your contract with poor to no excuse. They won't work with you to get the work they want compleat. Seems to be a us and them Mentality with planners and drivers. Worst company I've worked. They will put you in a situation on a daily basis to lose your licence for their gain. They simply don't care about you at all. You won't get back till late on Friday and you will get harrisment from planners texting you on personal phone about the following week before you even have your time off. You will be expected to put your taco on break while being loaded and you can't go stop at a Service they will watch your every move on tracker. They won't reply to messages once they have left q letter in your pigon hole to Terminate your job. Rude and Inconsiderate management. Simply don't care about your well being at all.
Pros
Money can be good while cab hopping but will be horrible doing so for any amount of time.
Cons
No life and they will make you work till late Fridays because they are rubbish planners

Lack of communication and badly managed
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Queenborough, Kent - 16 February 2023
I spent 3 months at AWJ, and although I wanted to give the company a go, it turned out a complete nightmare. I was promised £730 a week take home pay, and I never saw that pay scale once. I was lucky to take away £500 - £600 a week. They don’t pay you night out money unless you’re one hour away from the yard, and I spent more time tipping general waste than forestry. Everything about the company is miss led to just get you through the door to make up the driver numbers.
Pros
Non
Cons
Bad pay, no life, and bad management

Great company
HGV 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Penrith West - 14 February 2023
A great company. They look after their drivers very well. I only left there because I live on the east coast & they operated on the west, otherwise I would still work there.

HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Penrith - 15 January 2023
Hard work and always lots to do on a Friday. Not a nice place to work at. The pay needs to go up in this place to make it a job I would go back to. There is a lot of better job about then driving a HGV

Avoid at all costs.
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Chippenham, Wiltshire - 8 January 2023
You are in the hands of the planners who are mostly clueless morons who expect you to work 12-15hr days, everyday. Steer clear if you value your sanity.

Dont waste your time
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Chippenham - 2 December 2022
You're just basically a glorified bin man most of the time. Planners have shocking attitudes and are on weird power trips. Management are poor. Wage structure is pathetic and impossible to work out, if you do query the wages you can never get hold of anyone to sort it. Trailers are old and ready for scrap yard but units are pretty good. All in all, Don't bother, its a complete waste of time
Pros
only one and thats pretty good tractor units
Cons
everything else

Well paid hard graft.
HGV Driver (Former Employee) - Chippenham, Wiltshire - 23 July 2022
A superb company that looks after it's workforce but do not expect to have it easy. You WILL be driving 10 hour days and where possible, maxing out driving hours.

Driver
Class 1 LGV Driver (Current Employee) - Penrith - 4 April 2022
Overal it is good place to work. New wagons and most of tbe trailers. Most days you decide what time you start. Some days are long shifts up to 13-14 hours. Sometimes they try to compensate with less hours next day. Downside is that there is salary and working 60h/week gives you less than 10p/h which is not great these days.

Soap opera on wheels
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Lockerbie - 3 November 2021
Work every hour they can get out you. 48 hours wtd means nothing I found it to be like being back at school the way the managers spoke to you. The transport clerks were all the drivers who crawled there way into the office. They didn't have a clue
Pros
New lorry
Cons
Poor managers and traffic Clarks

Dirty work for little money
HGV Class 1 Driver (Former Employee) - Chesterfield - 10 October 2021
Planners want you to run your hours out 15 hrs three times a week every week. Money sounds good (£700 take home) however for the hours you'll do this equates to £8.33 an hour. Every place you'll go is different so you're never sure about the procedure for the sites , virtually impossible to stay clean and with the workload you don't have time for a shower unless you can get to a Jenkinson site. In short jobs like these are the reason for driver shortages.
Pros
Can't say there are any
Cons
The job.
