Worked here for nearly 3 years clients were lovely and enjoyed my job however never felt supported never had carer progression opportunities and just felt like a number

Learning and productive place

Good work, poor Cornwall manager

Abicare is a good company with very good managers in the head office. But the management team in Cornwall - bad. Organization - zero. Our rights - no. Care for the carers - zero etc.

Great company to work for

Flexible hours, nice management, very good training , can also do your NVQ’s with them at your cost but taken in parts from wages so don’t really notice , working close to home and mileage was paid from first appointment and home from last

My years at Abicare.

I’ve been working with abicare in BOA for many years, I’m using this space as open and honest review. Overall I believe abicare is a lovely place to work because you can choose your own hours to suit you as long as it covers the requirements which is 2 evenings and every other weekend. As a whole we have a lovely clientele even though it can have Challenging moments, That’s what makes care so special. When your caring for clients you can come out feeling rewarded as you know you have made a positive impact on a vulnerable person’s life but in any care sector there is negative’s but with abicare there are more positives than good. The positives are: Supportive management, working as a team, making a difference to clients by enabling them to live in the comfort of their own homes, opportunities to progress within your career to become a senior key worker, community team supervisor or even a community manager and being paid travel and mileage to your calls. Of course within the care industry there is negative things such as: When running late due to being held up it can cause impacts to the rest of the day, low staffing so being asked to pick up shifts but with abicare there is no pressure if you don’t want to, There can be challenging clients but most are not and with this we’ll always remain supportive and professional at all times with the clients so they feel like have got a positive support system all around them and within the care industry it can be quite demanding but rewarding.

a workplace and culture to avoid

First off, management do NOT listen to staff at all. If you have an issue, rather than management helping you they are very rude and unhelpful. The service users are not paired appropriately at all in which making your job harder. If you have any concerns or issues then don’t expect to be helped unless you are one of the managers favourites.The work place can often be segregated into groups of people which can cause the environment to be hostile. Everything you say WILL be repeated to others and both staff and managers like to stir the pot.The service users are lovely but expect to see them a lot as you WILL have unwanted shifts added.

Poor Management, refused days off

The Management is poor, they add to your rota and don’t tell you. I was made to work 11+ days without a single day off and was then told that it was because of what I put down on availability. They don’t take any notice of the Availability. Constant calls and messages to ask if you can cover shifts everyday. Favouritism in the work force. Out for 8hrs a day but only get paid 5/6hrs. No breaks in between to stop and have something to eat or rest.

I have a good opinion about this company because they took care to find me another live in very fast,even at the beginning I was working for another agentie and they took care to offer me another job.For any problem I can call the supervisor and solve my needs.This agency was recommended to me by an health care assistant who has been working with Abicare for 9 years

Great company to work for

I have worked for Abicare for 5 years, in that time I have really enjoyed working for the company, the management at the B.O.A office are fantastic, very supportive, and listen to their staff, the client's and there family's are lovely, I enjoy working for Abicare.

Busy but rewarding

Can be busy and hard work if short staffed but a great team to work alongside and if need to swap a shift they will always do there best to help, each client is unique yet lovely in there own way and always have a story to tell

Always busy, supported by colleagues, my dream job!

Every day at Abicare is different, with ongoing work to be finishing off, or new projects to be started and meetings to be organised. The entire team are supportive, engaged and very willing to listen to new ideas especially if it makes their job easier!It has been very rewarding to see how investing in technology can make a positive impact across the board and in particular to see how administration tasks can be reduced so that people can concentrate on the parts of the job they love. The hardest part of the job has been getting to grips with all the different aspects of a sector that is completely new to me, especially the constraints of dealing with local authorities and other public sector bodies.It is always busy, but only occasionally feels like the workload is getting out of control and that's down to me managing my time better.

Good teamwork but company put profits before staff & service users

Training is second to none, you learn everything you need to know & have regular updates. Great carers who get on well with career progression a certainty if you want to advance. It is profits before people- clients are charged for less than 24 hours notice of a cancellation but the carer doesn’t get paid- we used to. Different pay rates so clients are charged more after certain times- this is not passed on to staff. Live in side is not great, not enough staff to keep it going so carers going a long time- days- without a break. They insist someone will be out to relieve them but no one comes

Abicare values the work our carers do and as of February 2022 we are increasing all pay rates for staff, rewarding them not only for their qualifications, but also for their length of service.

Fun place to work

It's a fun place to work. However, the management team is horrible, doesn't care about the staffs. Poor communication, can change rota every hour without letting you know. Pick and drop non driver, if you refuse it, they cut the hours down lol. They treat you like "taxi". This company is a joke. If you stand up for yourself, you survive lol. They take you for granted if you keep quiet.

A great place to work!

From applying to starting work at Abicare I felt welcomed and part of the team. The training I received was relevant, interesting and made enjoyable by the training team. A great company to work for with on-going support from management and colleagues. Every day is different which keeps the role interesting.

Not for me bad experience all round

For me a total mistake even going for it. You constantly chase your tail to get all client visits done in one day . Sometimes 4 visits a day to one client .Pay not great and unsocial hours . Very stressful experience. Lot of wear and tear on your vehicle .

Caring company

I have worked here a few years now and have progress with my development over the time with more opportunities to go further. I wouldn't look else were as this is where my loyal stays. We all look out for each other and team work is number 1. Training team always go above and beyond aswell as the carers themselves, our carers always go above and beyond and work well as a team delivering fantastic care out in the community making sure our clients have everything they need. Amazing company to come and work for of you are looking to come into care.
