Cons

a workplace and culture to avoid

First off, management do NOT listen to staff at all. If you have an issue, rather than management helping you they are very rude and unhelpful. The service users are not paired appropriately at all in which making your job harder. If you have any concerns or issues then don’t expect to be helped unless you are one of the managers favourites. The work place can often be segregated into groups of people which can cause the environment to be hostile. Everything you say WILL be repeated to others and both staff and managers like to stir the pot.The service users are lovely but expect to see them a lot as you WILL have unwanted shifts added.

Caring company

I have worked here a few years now and have progress with my development over the time with more opportunities to go further. I wouldn't look else were as this is where my loyal stays. We all look out for each other and team work is number 1. Training team always go above and beyond aswell as the carers themselves, our carers always go above and beyond and work well as a team delivering fantastic care out in the community making sure our clients have everything they need. Amazing company to come and work for of you are looking to come into care.

Avoid

After working for Abicare I have had to seriously reconsider what care is. There is no management although there are titles, no communication between management and staff members and an extreme lack of communication with clients. Extremely rare you're given travel time and/or breaks unless you're in favour of the correct people. Unfortunately, you have to cut time off of each client's call allowance in order to make it to the next within their required slot. No work life balance, and constant bullying that is continuously left undealt with. I mean to the family members of and clients!... As well as staff or ex employees.

Cons

No traveltime, no breaks, terrible client service from management.

Wonderful company, a great place to start in care

Wonderful staff, super friendly, great training, fair wage, an amazing place to start a career in care.I really enjoyed my year with abicare. It made me really happy to go to work knowing I was making a difference and I was confident enough to do my job properly thanks to the intensive training. The pay per hour us great but you're only paid millage for travel so it woks out a little less when you actually think about it. Uniform provided and brilliant job security, especially in the current climate.

Pros

Friendly, fair pay, amazing training.

Cons

Long hours, evening and weekend commitments

Official response from Abicare Services

3 December 2018
We are sorry that you decided to leave Abicare, but we are glad that you did enjoy working with the team and we supported you well. Abicare do try to offer a competitive pay withing the care industry - most areas are now £10 per hour plus we pay extra for travel time plus mileage. We are lobbying government to provide more funding for the care industry, in which we would definitely pass this on to our loyal and hardworking care staff. You all do an amazing job and we would love to pay you more. Thank you for your feedback.

Hours not available

Was led to believe i would receive the hours but they could not supply me with what i needed. The job itself is rewarding and i have learned a lot. The hardest part is arriving on time and not always able to give full commitment due to rota schedules. The most enjoyable is interacting with the service users and hopefully making their lives a bit easier and more comfortable.

Pros

Meeting and interacting with the client

Cons

Not giving the client enough time

not a very good company to work for

07:00am start 23:00pm finish 20 min break all day if your lucky because of call cramming. they take advantage of the fact you cant say no to doin over time and make you feel guilty for saying no , ive learned to say no to over time in other jobs and stick to my guns if i cannot work the over time because of other commitments. carers were not resrected by management , poor quality of care as calls are miss frequently, they send you to relatives calls if relatives are service users when your not supposed to i know this as i was sent to my grandmother. and they have no consept of confidentiality atall. hardest part of the job was being run into the ground by management and not saying no .and gettimg to calls on time as calls were crammed and they expected you to leave a service user and go to the next once an ambulance was rung for the previous, that is not caring you should not leave that call till that service user has their needs met . most enjoyable part was my services users they made yu feel like part of the family.

Pros

the services users

Cons

call cramming and managment

Awful Company all round

Think so many have already written about this awful Company. The Dorset Team Management appalling with little support. Bullying when you won't do as they want. Constantly ever changing rotas. Rarely any travel time. Unhappy Service Users. Disgusting turnover of staff. Use and abuse springs to mind.......surprised the Company's still in business.......

Cons

Awful company with office staff who threaten you.

I worked at this company for 5 months. They would change my rota on a hourly basis. You don't get paid for traveling times and often have to drive for half an hour in between jobs. I would be working a 40+ hour week and would get paid about 700 a month. Office staff are bully's and try to threaten you into doing short calls on your days off. The short 15 min calls are worth about £2 but then you have to deduct your fuel costs as well!

Pros

None

Cons

15 minute jobs worth £2 to you.

Supportive and happy team! RECOMMENDED

I have worked with Abicare for 2 years. I have found the staff and management team to be supportive and helpful. Someone is always on hand to help for my many questions and its never to much hassle! Customers are happy with the service and the carers all go above and beyond. GENUINE LOVE OF PROVIDING CARE. Training is provided at appropriate level for care experience. Pay and travel time is paid and any issues are resolved quickly. I have introduced friends to Abicare and would recommend as an agency to work for!

Pros

Supportive team, overtime available, flexible hours

Cons

Hours can be unsociable

Great place to work in Dorset

Great Company to work for. Supported from day one, indepth training, to a great standard. Clients and Staff are all very friendly. All clients I visit seem happy and I have some great friends within the Team of Carers.

Pros

Dorset Office is a great Team

The Dorset Office is a fab place to work. The carers are great, the whole Team are all friendly and always happy to help. Everyone makes you feel so welcome. Management is very productive and there is always someone on the end of the phone to assist if you are stuck. Lovely clients! Best and most fair Care agency I have worked for so far. Great training. Always hours available.

Pros

Team work and Hours!

not a very good place too work

management is poor, worked 30 hours a week and only got £400 for the month, no mileage paid, no travel time, don't take into consideration late night working then early morning working.

Pros

clients

Cons

pay

Rubbish pay, Poor managment

There was no communication between carers and management. this caused big problems for the carers. Rotas were updated every hour, meaning you never really knew where you were next, causing carers to always late for appointments with service users, which obviously caused problems and attitudes between certain service users and carers. Most of the services users are lovely, but with the disturbances of lateness it is understandable for them to be a bit grouchy. The pay stated on the advertisement is the true price, however, when you get into the company you realize that 'per hour' is not how it actually works. you only get paid whilst you are in with the service users, each appointment being on average 15-30 minutes( apart from mornings where they are 45 mins). You are on your own, which can be good, however when you first start out (although you have 28 hours shadowing another carer) it can be easy to make mistakes, or not do the job properly(but you do get full basic training which you get paid to complete) and not having someone there to help or show you the correct way to do things.

Pros

Most colleagues are lovely, on your own

Cons

Long hours but only get paid for half the day( as you don't get paid whilst traveling)

Care Assistant

Driving to individual clients to assist each person with their own personal needs. Keeping to a strict time limit. Care can be with showering/bathing client. making and where needed feeding client. Doing general tidying chores where needed. And any other job that is required to assist each client to live as normal a life as possible at home.
