HORRIFIC to work for
Disability Assessor (Former Employee) - North East - 25 September 2023
The initial training was very good & I couldn't fault that. I started work as a disability assessor & I can honestly say it was the worst job of my nursing career!!!! You're supposed to start work at 830am, but that's a joke as you have to go on your computer at least 45 minutes early so you can get logged on. You have then have 3 to 4 assessments to compete a day. Your lucky if you get a break, no one ever does & that includes the managers (please don't respond with "did you highlight this to your manager" cause everyone knows this happens) If a client doesn't attend the assessment they are on your back to get another assessment straight away. My manager micro managed and patronised me daily. The sick leave is a joke aswell 5 days paid a year & the holidays are just as bad. 18 days & all bank holidays off (for 32 hours a week) absolute garbage. I had an emergency one day & needed to take my father to A&E. They didn't pay me for this, they took it off me! If that was the NHS, you would have been granted carers leave. I'm returning back to the NHS & I can't wait as my experience with this company was awful. I've never been happier since I left. It's not nursing and they have statistics on you for everything. They should have had one for the amount of times I had the opportunity to go to the toilet, cause of the workload & I know it was lucky to be once. The turn over is huge & they wonder why????
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Rubbish holiday & sick leave, massive workload, micro managed, no breaks.

Not what I signed up for
Disability Assessor (Current Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 8 September 2023
Initial 5 weeks training was great. However DWP decision making regarding predicted length of assessment (short, medium, long) are ridiculously short-sighted. Often my 1 hour assessments would actually take 2-3 hours. Often assessing people who try to evade answering questions which make the assessments long and difficulty. Then having pressure put on by managment to get reports done so the next assessment could start. I have not finished on time a single day! I’m not using clinical knowledge, it’s a monkey see monkey do mentally. The inclusion criteria is not (in my opinion) there to help people, it’s there to catch people out. I am going to bed and thinking of the poor people who deserve help but won’t get it. Or on the other hand the scroungers who have applied more than once or researched what to say to get awarded PIP. It’s an awful job, and I don’t know how people do it long term. I struggle to sleep at night
Pros
Work from home, pay.
Cons
Unpaid overtime, stress, little support, poor management

Early days for me but really positive so far!
Disability Assessor (Current Employee) - Remote - 11 August 2023
Having recently completed my initial training I cannot yet comment on doing the Disability Assessor job for real. However I can honestly say that so far I have been really happy with the level of support, training and communication from all teams within the company that I have encountered. I expect there will be difficult days to come but its a starting salary that reflects a fair level of hard work and committment. To anyone considering this role i would say to contact Advo and see what they have to say!
Pros
Working from home. Regular hours. Good systems and processes
Cons
Managing your own time- works for me but may not for those who come from wards and shift work

Very hard work
Disability Assessor (Former Employee) - Home Based - 24 July 2023
I completed initial training which set me up for the Stage 3. This stage was difficult for me as I did not have flexibility to fulfill what is required for this position. Training was good but you can never learn everything within the first 5 weeks. It is a very steep and long learning curve so be prepared for good and bad days. Having said that, there is always support from managers and the training team so make sure you ask for it. I would recommend this position but it is much harder than I thought it would be so think long and hard about it before you apply.
Pros
Good training and support
Cons
Demanding

Just don't do it!
Applied DA (Former Employee) - Somerset - 16 July 2023
Work and interview... They call it constructive feedback, I was left feeling belittled and insulted by their comments. I've been a nurse for over 15 yrs and have never been made to feel like that, ever. Horrible experience, just don't do it!!
Pros
Progression and salary
Cons
Everything else

Made to work unpaid hours
Disability Assessor (Former Employee) - Yorkshire and Humberside - 19 April 2023
Worked for nearly 2 years as a disability assessor. Was given constant negative feedback, told I had to do training and preparation in my own time. Very stressful environment, was in tears and dreaded work. Raised concerns with my manager and the regional manager but was ignored. No work life balance. This company is toxic.
Pros
None
Cons
Unpaid work, negative comments.

Very Supportive Place of Work
Disability Analyst (Former Employee) - Somerset - 12 February 2023
Really lovely team, lots of support. A very hard and demanding job and can at times not be family friendly as described, but rewarding all the same with ability for bonuses and progression

Productive and strong team dynamic
Manager (Former Employee) - Cambridgeshire - 12 December 2022
I worked with Advo health in several roles for over 10 years. My time with the company was overwhelmingly positive; of course with any job it is challenging at times but the entire team is consistently supportive and want the best for you. Advo prided itself on building a strong team culture and the people I worked with made it very easy to stay for as long as I did. The work completed by Advo health is a specialist area and the role is demanding, but it is equally very rewarding and has the ability to offer great job satisfaction. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the business and would recommend anyone to join.
Pros
The people
Cons
The work can be challenging

Great company to work for
Disability Assessor (Current Employee) - North Yorkshire - 23 October 2022
I left the NHS with apprehension but could no longer stay due to overwhelming workload after working for the NHS for years I applied for a Disability Assessor and got the job although it wasn’t easy. The training was intense and passing what we call ‘approval’was stressful. However today, after having worked for Advo health for nearly 2 years, I have no regrets. The company look after their staff. My manager is supportive. The pay is competitive.

Approachable and supportive company
Disability Analyst (Former Employee) - Barnstaple, Devon - 30 April 2021
Very active and dynamic company with lots of activities both work and non work related. Great communication amongst the local teams and with managers too. Everyone is approachable and supportive which is great as the role is challenging at times. The training and CPD is varied and very good , have learnt so much in my time with the company. The pay is competitive and so is annual leave , work hours have some flexibility and there are some opportunities for overtime too. It's great to work with others from different work and healthcare backgrounds too .
Pros
Regular hours, training opportunities, challenging

Perfect for work life balance
Delivery Manager (Current Employee) - South - 30 April 2021
Since joining Advo Health a few years ago I have felt supported at every step. Be it going through the approval process to become a disability analyst, to working my way up to become part of the management team. The managers themselves are mainly health professionals with various backgrounds and there are clear paths to progression. It is a very different atmosphere from working as a nurse with the NHS. Only working Monday to Friday with the option to do overtime at the weekends if I want to. And at the moment working from home has its benefits while still connected to the wider team through Microsoft Teams.
Pros
Supportive colleagues, better work life balance, great pay, clear progression from within the company

Excellent training and ongoing support
Disability Analyst (Current Employee) - Scarborough, North Yorkshire - 26 April 2021
I found the training to be of excellent quality to enable me to do my job. There is so much support and ongoing training. They try hard to involve all employees in out of work activities and each person is made to feel valued within their team. It is always challenging but very rewarding as well.
Pros
Support, training, challenging, always evolving

Supportive environment with brilliant opportunities
Delivery Manager (Current Employee) - South West - 22 April 2021
Having come from the NHS I didnt know what to expect with a private company however I have been pleasantly surprised. The work space is supportive, the management mostly have health care backgrounds which is a huge benefit to staff as well as claimants. Whilsy going from office to home working has been tough, the management supported us to adapt, I feel included in team activities such as quizzes and supported remotely due to covid. Over all I really enjoy being part of advo health and the work life balance has massively improved since leaving the NHS.
Pros
Competitive pay, great management
Cons
Different job compaired to nursing

Flexible and friendly company
Disability Analyst (Current Employee) - Cornwall - 22 April 2021
I have found working here gives me a great work/ life balance. I have been able to choose my own hours within reason and often do overtime at the weekend. Opportunities for progression and competitive salary. I feel supported and have the chance to maintain my CPD whilst at work. All equipment is provided and communication is great. Working from home has been a smooth transition but also enjoyed working in a clinic.
Pros
Flexible working. Fits around family. Good salary
Cons
Lone working sometimes.
