Hire Desk Controller in Cardiff, Cardiff

Great place to work
Enjoying my time at Ainscough. Hire desk is either really busy or very quiet. No inbetween. Our region work together to achieve the best results. Would recommend working here.

Hard Work But Very Rewarding
Overall a great company to work for, yes the hours can be anti-social but you are rewarded for doing them. Lots of training offered and opportunities to work your way up within the company. A good Health & Safety culture companywide with support from management if somethings not right. The management in the depot I work from is very good and you feel a sense of belonging.

Good company gone bad
Greed has taken over this company ,Banks control it and they pay the share holders .It’s too top heavy In management and there’s directors in charge with very little to no crane knowledge .There the biggest but not the best , don’t care about there employees unless your office staff .There’s much better and better paid crane company’s out there
Hire Desk Controller in United Kingdom

Toxic workplace culture for office staff, expected to work 10-15 hours a week of un-paid overtime, "on-call" for no additional pay
I worked for Ainscough for 2 years on the Hire Desk in a very successful (or so we were told) depot in the South. You are encouraged from Day 1 to lie to the Crane Operators and Lift Teams about work, management deemed them "slabs of meat on seats" and didn't care about any issues they had, apparently on less than 25k a year I was the only who did (and when they called you at 4am on a Tuesday to say their job has been cancelled, at least they were getting paid).A pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is dangled in front of your face upon joining (in the form of an Annual bonus of up to 22.5% of your salary) - despite exceptional work and 100s of hours of overtime both years, we were always "40k short" or "so close".Coupled with Depot Managers that seemed unable to make decisions (many earning near double the Hire Controller's salary), a regional manager for the South who didn't even have a full UK driving licence; the amount of nonsense certainly does start to mount up. When questioning the lack of work life balance (like how it was acceptable to be on-call with no additional salary or days off in-lieu) you were told "that's crane hire for you, like it or lump it" - normally by members of middle management indoctrinated into believing this is the only life for them. The only thing I learnt from this job is to get out of the hire industry for good.
