Stressfull and Unfriendly environment

Very stressful and staff are encouraged to spot mistakes of other staff members. Staff are also encouraged to over-exceed their whistle-blowing policy.

Avoid at all costs

A manager resigned after making disgusting comments about employees weight. The employee that reported was let go, and that same manager was rehired..

Pros

You are able to move departments quite quickly.

Cons

Everything else

Relatively unheard of New bank... small... but slightly blinkered approach to progression and risk

Small bank...lots of opportunities... but only managed 6 months as I was made redundant along with 23 others... really sad.. and have o say less than 4 weeks consultation period.....gutted and quite disrespectful....I loved the job and was really doing well and implemented significant changes and improvements... nice people, nice bank.... but executives clearly had new orders and sadly money had to be saved so the quality department was one the savings to be made.

Terrible

Really bad management and HR. no understanding of staff needs. Turn over is very bad. No professionalism and no room for opportunity as favouritism plays a big part. Branch staff however branch work differently more professionalism and more understanding of staff also room for progression

Fast paced

Being a small organisation you have to hit the ground running, there are lots of opportunities to learn and get involved in many things, often outside the remit of your job.

Not a great place to work

The only good thing about working here is the salary and they pay better than any other bank as no one would work there otherwise. Horrible place to work, definitely a male dominated culture Recently taken on most of ex RBS staff and looking at them can see why RBS in such trouble

A great place to stretch yourself

No two days are the same and there are always new challenges which help you learn and grow as a professional. If you like a maintenance-type of role the environment will not suit you as change is constant but this brings the huge advantage that you will develop and add to your skills and experience daily. The Bank has an open, informal culture and managers are approachable and listen. The Bank is growing and developing, its a great place to work.

Pros

Good facilities, good location, lots of learning opportunities, can progress your career

Cons

fast pace won't suit everyone

A great Birmingham Employer

I joined about 9 months ago and have loved it. It's a small company so there is a real opportunity to make a mark and make a difference. The culture is friendly and supportive and there is a good atmosphere around the office. The company has real potential, backed by Qatar owners and offering something different to traditional banks.

Pros

Benefits, culture

Cons

Non Really

Ethical, great welcoming people working together.

I have been working here for around 5 months. What stands out is it feels like working with a family who look out for the their customers for the right reasons. My first experience in a Bank and I am really enjoying it here. Full induction provided and frequent optional training given. There is limited parking but the Bank is in a good location close to Five Ways.

Pros

The people, the culture, the food.

Cons

Lack of parking

Great move

Everyone is very friendly and I had a full induction in my first week which I wasn't expecting. Training is extensive which is helpful for those without a FS background. The place itself is really close to local amenities which is great when you have an hours lunch (Nando's etc). Parking is a challenge so best reached by Five Ways.

Pros

Location with local amenities

Cons

Parking

Good place to work

The bank is growing at a rapid pace and rewards being shared with the staff. Unlike other companies i worked for the manager encourages personal development and the company regularly pays for days/nights out etc as a form of reward and recognition. As it is a small bank one role usually requires a lot more work than it does in the bigger banks but on the plus side this helps with building induvidual experience. Vibrant atmosphere and happy people, big change from when i first started the bank.

Pros

Great place to work and build experience

Cons

No parking onsite

Terrible place

Absolutely terrible place to work at. The managers have no idea what they are doing. A lot of bullying going on and the HR system is a total disgrace The HR staff all gossip regarding the issues that have arisen. So clearly everyone knows your business. No place for progression. So glad I'm out of that place.. the salary is terrible too.

Pros

Long lunches

Cons

Pay

Contact Centre Head office

Dont be fooled by the lavish building Al-Rayan is based at. I was given no form of induction, just put straight into deep end. Not a diverse environment to work in predominatly all asian operational side. Some of the staff that curently work there are not welcoming when questioned they take it personally. Managers I assesed were not qualified to do what they were doing they were more like learning on the job. From my experience there would not recommend as there are no opportunities to grow professionally. If you just looking for money to pay bills then yes go for it. Thankfully I left in 3 weeks gave my resignation. Whilst i was there got bullied and it took me two weeks recovering from it.

Pros

Experience

Cons

Diversity

Good place to start

You can get lots of experience at this company as you do more than one specific role at the same time. It is a good place to start your career but in terms of salaries they are far behind their rivals in the market.

Manager resigned before he got fired for bullying, 2 months later he is re-hired as the new manager... Would not happen in a big bank.
