Fast and Stressful

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Be prepared to work fast and hard. No matter how hard you work, they will always expect more from you. But if you get a good store team it can be quite rewarding working there.

Prepare to give everything and to be called to come in on holidays and days off

Managers take the staff room. Shouted /spoken to badly. Refuse to sort things out. contract pay, work less you owe them, O/T next month to pay you.

Poor

Hated working here. Would never ever doIt againAnd I advise anyone else not to either. Seems fun and okay but once you get into it you will see there is no progress Ion

Not worth the stress

More mature staff are held to same standard as younger e.g youre given 4 minutes (yes that's FOUR) to unpack, display, condense and rotate two or more 6ft high palettes of bread. Even the teenagers struggled!EVERYTHING is timed, even if given three jobs to do at same time you need to meet timings set or will be written up. No excuses, not even the fact you can possibly be in three places at once.Scanning targets are so stressful, customers dither and take their time, while you're sat mentally pulling your hair out about how its affecting your scan time. We were told that keeping queues down and scanning at the speed of light kept prices down for customers. But when I asked different management how, none of them could give a specific reason why or how this worked. Constantly yelled at about queues (not allowed 3 people passed till). You never get out on time, close was at 10pm, officially finish 10.30 pm after tidying store (which was super stressful with more timed targets), eventually would leave around 11pm because there was never enough time/people to do the work.Had a great team and a couple of managers were lovely, but overall you were expected to deliver the impossible.Awful place to work. Do not recommend.

Terrible

Terrible place to work. You are Treated like an animal. No respect and worked into the ground doing the same boring job day in day out with zero chance to progress or better yourself. Zero work life balance no finish time some days you could be working 6 hours other days you could be working 12 , one weekend off in 3 if your lucky. This place is a hole don’t work here there’s plenty of other better jobs out there

Generally a good work place

Really nice people to work with, management are really helpful although it can get stressful and there are time targets to reach and our store does get busy and also working in retail you are expected to work weekends but will work around you if you have kids or other responsiblities

Prepare to work hard

When they say in interview it's hard work .. do not underestimate this .. It is .In return the company pays well there are opportunities and good benefits .. And they look after you as a employee

Pros

Good wages

Cons

Long hard hours

Unrealistic company

They cut hours and expect you to do the job of 10 people with 3 people, pay isn’t what it used to be other supermarkets have caught up with the wages now

Mostly positive

Work hard and hope you have the managers at your store. Early starts at 5am. Need to be good at multi-tasking. Standard supermarket job.

Pros

Advance rota

Cons

Can be demanding

Alright for money

Always Understaffed and stressful environment. The management in general seems not too care much ablut the employees. The balance between work and life is terrible due to long shifts.

Harder Worker, Harder Work

Years of great work why promote the hard workers, did everything in my power to recieve a promotion and still did not even get a look in. Yes good hourly rate but you work for it finger to the bone.

Graft

Don’t mind working hard but the company every single year are cutting more and more hours expecting more to be done. I’ve had good and bad times here, some years would have been 1 star some would have been 5 hence the 3 stars.

Pros

Sense of commardrie with your team, like family

Cons

Work life balance is poor, sometimes can be in work 8 days straight

Long and Tiring hours

What makes this job bearable is the people you work with. But aside from that, you arrive at 4:45am and don't know what time you will finish until you get there. Some days it could be a 7 hour shift, others a 12 hour. Constant work pressure, not allowed to talk to others or risk being pulled aside by managers. The job itself is relatively easy, but draining and repetitive.

Good place to work if you enjoy hard work

It’s not for everyone, once you’re settled in and know your craft well it is the easiest job in the world, the people make it easy to work there! No day is the same, hard work however your shift goes quick because of it

Great team

When i started years ago you had to load yourself in the warehouse with up to 4 stores on a trailer, them days are over. Pre loaded trailers now. 2 runs per shift, great bunch of drivers.

Pros

Pay/overtime

Cons

Weekend due to rolling rota.

Fast pace and unappreciative

Overall the job isn’t terrible. The management side just treats you like a number. Some days expected to work 8 whole hours with one 15 minute break which i don’t think is acceptable or humane really. Lets not forget that you are CONSTANTLY on your feet and doing very physical things. But the people who work there couldn’t be more nicer, very welcoming and friendly. But all the managers care about is the pick rate and not you. And the rota is rubbish. You will get for example 4 days in work and 1 day off and so on.

Pros

Very friendly colleagues

Cons

Management

Fix rota

Only major issue working on nights in aldi is the rota, It's suited for a dayshift rota (everything is implicated to make dayshift run smoothly) but no one looks at nights and the rota, You work 4 days have 1 night off then back in for 4 days again the 1 night off u work 5 hours of that in the morning so it actually feels like you're working 9 in a row.

Pros

Good pay, Some management are fine and fair.

Cons

Rota, Rota and ROTA
