Not all sunshine and rainbows

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The work is hard but not impossible. Fairly boring and repetitive but a good group of people that are welcoming and easy to get along with. There are shortcomings on the management side and advancement opportunities are few but the pay is good and most of the time the shifts are reasonable. as long as you're prepared to go above and beyond then you'll be okay.

Pros

paid break, free tea and coffee

Cons

lack of organization, little to know oversight

Was let go with a weeks notice. Not great. Felt let down as had worked so hard and always worked extra hours. Was told how well I was doing. Was looking forward to progress. Extremely disappointed

Efficient

Fast and furious hard work but very rewarding staff are very much a family and work together as a team enjoyed my time working for aldi very supportive and thought full in times of personal matters staff are very efficient and helpful towards customers I made some very good friends while working for aldi of which I still keep in contact with training very good think staff should be entitled to more of a break a 9 hour shift with one 20 min and second. 10 min break is not enough I know we were entitled to an unpaid break also but that did get a bit frowned upon from management

Pros

Very supportive management

Cons

Long hours with very little breaks

Challenge

Long hours, random shifts, a lot of work.Unfortunately lack of good quality training. Candidates must be self motivated to learn, Aks a lot of questions, be Curious.

Pros

Paid breaks, very good salary

Cons

No life work balance.

Negative attitude from management, standard time on sundays

Sundays you would only get paid standard rate. Management were very controlling and power p i s s e d. Most months you will not get much more than 25hours a week. Could never work out how much pay you will get. Payslips would only come out 1 day before payday.

Pros

Some nice people

Cons

Only one half an hour break if doing 8+ hours, if request an extra break they put you on shorter shifts

A well paid job with very high demands

I previously enjoyed working at aldi however the long shifts and workload eventually take its toll. You are trained to work in every area of the store I.e. Produce, freezer etc and are expected to go between these at your top speed to finish jobs or help colleagues as instructed. As well as this you must balance your timing between these tasks and helping customers, going back and forward onto your till, cleaning and mopping when something breaks etc. The main benefit to working at aldi is a good wage however the cons start to outweigh the pros, with a very strict time on breaks, no employee discount and overall long shifts. Management often have a double standard in the work they expect from someone and the work they actually produce also

Pros

Great Salary, many opportunities for advancement

Cons

Long, tough hours, extremely short break times(30 minutes for a 10 hour shift), no discounts

Pros

Cons

10 hour shifts, timed on stock replen & till speeds

Fast paced job, target driven

Aldi is a good place to work if you like a fast pace where everything you do is timed to the minute from deliveries to breaks. Said to be the highest paid retail job, but in fact there are other companies that pay more. Very difficult to progress unless "your face fits". Good friendships made.

Pros

Paid breaks

Cons

Long till shifts (up to 9.5 hours).

Stressful, demotivating and hectic environment.

I worked for Aldi for a few years and it depends on the store you work at but my one I have many different opinions on it. Most of the time it was a stressful, demotivating and hectic environment to work in, always finishing late and not enough appreciation, a simple well done etc goes a long way but instead you are bombarded with negative feedback like go faster etc. They don't give out the workload evenly in my store that I worked at, some sit on tills all day, while others run like crazy on shop floor. People not rotated around store enough, and when they do rotate you rarely such as put you on produce they expect you to work to a very crazy target when you have not been on this section for ages so what do they expect, like with any skill in life if you don't do it for a long time you need to build it up again. I have seen so many staff come and go over time and it is ridiculous the turnover, but hey they can get your replacement in the next day so they don't care. The work itself is dull but each to their own, if you enjoy it then fine. A lot of managers didn't do date checks properly and on the chiller a lot of staff didn't rotate when this was raised nothing ever happened. Food constantly left out of chiller for ages, freezer same as well, out of date food on a daily basis, over worked staff. As with Covid they breached the restrictions many times, allowing so many in the store during the height of the pandemic and taking off the door marshall not long after they implemented it, meaning it was a free for all, even this stupid traffic light system still allowed too many -

Pros

Some nice staff

Cons

Finish late, awful management, breaching policies.

Aldi RDC Cardiff

Employed as a HGV driver class 1 in Cardiff RDC, loading your own trailer using ride on MHE with ambient goods, chilled and Frozen or Special buys. Busy RDC and can expect help from other loaders or drivers. Easy work in all honesty, once loaded drive to store and unload using MHE usually by electric truck, and collect empty pallets or goods back to RDC, dekit trailer and report to transport office for second load.Senior management are good, are approachable and helpful, section leaders do have their favourites and you can be palmed off with busier days than that of some drivers.Excellent pay, benefits and rewards through Aldi, 5 on 3 off rotating shifts, good units to drive and defect reporting is great. Can be long shifts around 12 hours tbh, great canteen facilities, changing rooms and showers.Disciplinary action is common ground and something they do for minor things, job is easy just over complicated for the sake of it. Great place for progression into management so expect many to suddenly change overnight if promoted. If you are looking for a good job then Aldi RDC Cardiff is a good contender. Do the work right and keep yourself to yourself then it’s a job for life. Great pay for the area and expect a 12 hour shift, days and nights have pros and cons.Store deliveries are easy enough, expect to make room by yourself to get the goods in store, can be unsafe at night going to some stores on your own.

Pros

Salary, long term employment and progression

Cons

12 hour shifts, snitch on you culture and unsafe conditions at night

Very fast paced environment but everyone pulls together to get the job done. Only one way of doing things and that's the right way! Clear structure and excellent training program.

Pros

Good salary and working conditions

Cons

Can be very physically demanding for people of certain age!

Fun workplace

Good job. I enjoy to work here, but I feel like I need a change. Fed up of the job. Good staf transport apart from section leaders. I feel victimized, maybe is just me, but that is my opinion.

Pros

Free coffee and fruits

Awful

Awful company to work for. Yes you can argue the pay is good but it's definitely not worth the stress. You expected to work at 100mph and do everything quicker than flash. Management are poor and swear at there staff. Absolutely awful.

Pros

Wage

Cons

Long hours, poor management and time expectancy

Great place but awkward hours

Aldi is a great company and they look after their staff where possible. It can be tough going at first but once you get into the swing it is a pretty fun place to work. The only real down fall is the short contracts and the lack of hours available some staff put on to as little as 15 hrs a week, spread over multiple shifts ranging anywhere from 5am to 10pm with only one weeks notice.

Pros

Paid lunch breaks and good hourly pay.

Cons

Awkward shifts.little overtime availiable

Poor organisation to work for

Working for ALDI was a really stressful time. Not only would the management team demand more of you than you were physically capable of, they would often reduce your hours below your contracted hours.Management were unsupportive and unsympathetic on mental health issues and the culture was very stressful and showed very little interest in providing sufficient training or development.

Great salary, boring job

The office jobs will fit a certain type of person, you are expected to fit the 'Aldi persona', i.e. do as you're told and don't question anything. The processes are very dated and probably haven't changed since the 80s but you are not allowed to question anything or suggest improvements because it is the 'Aldi way'. The work is very monotonous, boring and manual, with no space or opportunity for development. My Director was nice and friendly but generally the culture is very formal, you are not allowed to contact people above your job grade directly, there are some very odd office/job culture rules, it is not a relaxed environment by any means. Some people have been there 20+ years and think they know it all even though it's the only job they've had but were not willing to accept any suggestions on improving processes as you've only been there a short while so your input isn't valued.Pay was excellent which I can only assume was the main reason people were staying there. I personally wouldn't return, it was not a right fit for me.

Pros

Great salary, free fruit, nice offices

Cons

Boring job, no development

Good for a 6 month job, don't stay any longer

Great to work at for a short term due to the wages (£10+)But don't expect to get any higher than the position you apply for. no matter your time spent with the company/skillset/ability.

Pros

Good wages

Cons

No focus on staff retention

Culture is dangerous

For store colleagues it’s a rewarding well paid job if you can cope with the pace. For management if your face doesn’t fit they can and do manage a high proportion of people out of the business using dubious tactics.

Pros

Well paid

Cons

End up working more than 48 hours to achieve the results expected for free.
