Simple and not backbreaking work
Class 2 Driver (Current Employee) - Bredbury - 28 May 2023
Easy enough job, light loads so not breaking your back at every drop. The majority of the time delivering to big supermarkets so easy parking, mapped out routes, learn them first.

Very Hard Work Lots of Hours Full Time. You work and you get nothing from this job you will not be promoted no pay raise for your work you keep doing the same overtime paid poorly, requirements of managers as if you were a robot. Very expensive canteen, always the same bread for employees for which you pay.

hgv class one bulk tanker driver
HGV Class one bulk driver (Former Employee) - Tilbury, Essex - 28 April 2023
Well where do I start? What an awful company to work for as an HGV Driver! From fiddling your hours to keep your average down (I literally caught office staff putting in lower hours than I had worked) salary paid so it did not affect your pay. Salary was paid for an average 48 hour week, I averaged 55 hours a week and for the six months I was at Tilbury I had one short day to bring my hour average down and the short day was a nine hour day! Office staff telling you to take another load out even though you had done a ten hour plus day, office staff or transport desk telling petty tales to improve their own status etc. It really was a toxic atmosphere place to work!
Pros
None
Cons
Long Hours and not paid enough (salary)

Sometimes Very busy and Hectic
Shift Engineer (Former Employee) - Orpington, Kent (sadly now closed) - 23 March 2023
Carried out Daily Maintenance and Health checks on the Machinery involved in the process to produce Bread and buns etc, Also attended Breakdowns of Equipment , the emphasis was in Quick analysis and repair so to keep the process moving, a simple fault could result in Total loss of several hours worth of production , so speed was of the essence generally this was achieved however with some problems that occurred due to Electronic or Mechanical failure of equipment this would result in a major loss of product !!
Pros
Good working environment generally, good pension scheme and good renumeration
Cons
Sometimes quite stressful if a major breakdown occurred

Jobs at Allied Bakeries
The job is changing for the better
Driver (Former Employee) - London East, Greater London - 28 February 2023
London depot Class 2 driver. It's changing, soon we deliver our bread on wheels like other bread companies. Our salary is reasonable nearly 37k. A 5 on 3 off work pattern is being introduced. Delivery trucks are not that old. Plenty of company benefits and you can buy bread for 40p. Early starts with job and finish. Overtime available. Approachable management. Truck sat nav to get you to your delivery points.

Used to be decent, but not anymore.
Manufacturing Technician (Former Employee) - West Bromwich, West Midlands - 25 January 2023
There was a time where it was a decent place to work, Not anymore. How they have allowed it to get so bad is a mystery. The constant changing of management, from senior level down to front line, is what turned this place in to a nightmare. Each time the Management just got worse and worse. I worked here for a good number of years, but it just got to the point where I couldn't stand it any longer, and had to leave. I wouldn't recommend working here unless you are desperate for work, if you have other options take them, dont put yourself through the pain and misery of working for these clowns.
Pros
Nothing really
Cons
Too many to list

Management is a joke
Electrical Maintenance Engineer (Former Employee) - Stevenage, Hertfordshire - 21 November 2022
I worked as an engineer at Stevenage for just over 4 years. Never before have I had a job where the sole purpose of the managers was to quote the rule book, trip you up and issue warnings. In the past, to be issued a written warning was considered to be very serious but at Allied it was a joke, written warnings for minor 'offences' like improperly written maintenance logs. There were almost as many engineering managers as engineers, most of which should never have been in positions of authority. Very few gave any support to the engineering staff. When there was a change of manager, that position was always filled externally. The other guys in the engineering department were good to work with though. Glad I'm out of there.
Pros
Good pension
Cons
Everything else

Undervalued, hard work, falling behind competitors and lack of innovation
Despatch Operative (Former Employee) - Lincoln - 20 November 2022
In my honest opinion it's just run by management close to retirement age, so they don't care if they're not innovative or competitive. They're just riding it out till they can retire. Don't expect to rise anywhere withing the company, those vacancies are already pre planned. 7/8 years ago the pay was competitive, now they have fallen well behind the competition and other employers in general. If they didn't have ABF propping them up, and where a stand alone company they'd have gone under long ago. You constantly feel stressed wether you're going to become made redundant, it's not good for mental health.
Pros
Paid on time
Cons
Long hours, hard work, mediocre pay, not many benefits, potential for a 14 hour shift

Poor Management
HGV Driver (Former Employee) - Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire - 6 November 2022
Told I was to work 9.5 hours a day and ended up being 12 hours most days. False promises, blame culture and no such thing as health and safety, even after reporting defects.
Pros
Paid breaks
Cons
Out dated equipment
