A fun enjoyable job and I can work when I want.

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I love working for flex. Its a fun job in my own car and I can work what days I want and have as much time off as I want. Im my own boss which is also a positive and I love driving. Amazon flex is fantastic I love it. However I wish I could work more hours than I currently am. 24 hours isn't really enough but it still brings a solid salary in weekly.

Pros

Can work any days I want

Cons

Not enough hours and wear and tear

Waste of time

By far the worst job I have ever done. Everything depends on the app, nothing depends on you. Salary might seem like not too bad at first glance, but you have to consider that not only you have to pay tax off of it but also cover your petrol, all car expenses, insurance etc, which then boils down to you earning £4-5 an hour and even that is not always guaranteed as your delivery blocks can vary massively and sometimes require you to drive huge distances resulting in 1 hour return journeys, which cuts into your salary even more. Management is atrocious as again most things are done through the app (and believe me when I say that the app f*cks up ALL the time) and the only way for you to sort out anything is to email them and they can take ages to reply and sometimes just outright ignore you and do not reply. You can get your account deactivated for literally anything and you have no way to prove that amazon or the app are wrong (happened to so many people who I know, you can't appeal anything they just ignore you), so it's essentially 0/10 job security. Apart from having actually flexible working hours (but even that depends on the blocks you get and sometimes you can't get what fits you or can't get a block at all), there's absolutely nothing else going for it. It's just pure exploitation, just like anything that Amazon does.

Pros

Flexible schedule

Cons

Everything else

The job that can bring you few extra cash in your spare time

It was a pleasent experience to work here. Always had flexibility. The hours could be booked as blocks and once you have them in calendar and complete them you will get paid every Wednesday.

Pros

Flexibility

Cons

Short advance booking schedule

Too many deliveries not enough time

You will get too many delries for the time allotted and can expect to drive 30 mins to your first stop. The app starts with the closest delivery and gets further away so good long journey home. My advice on collection if it's a city centre just leave the block and drive away you will spend more than you earn in parking and travel Trafford Park and Liverpool the worst. If you don't mind speeding round you might like this job but only as a top up not full time job.

Pros

Paid on time weekly

Cons

Too many drops for time allotted you will need to exceed speed limit to finish nearly in time

Consistent work, very long days, underpaid.

5 day week +1 standby day rotating days.A typical day is 10 to 11 hours on the road +30mins at the depot for loading up + 10 minutes at the end to return any undelivered parcels. If there's last minute changes to your time slot for loading up, or if you miss your scheduled loading time slot, you could be waiting up to 2 hours near the depot, waiting for a text or phone call confirming you can now enter the depot, to then load up , then start your route. This can really drain your energy and turn your day into a 13 hour day.Typical day pay is £88 + bonuses (bonuses can be £30+ per day extra so they are big in theory but hard to achieve)It's a physical job, jumping in and out your van 190 times per day. When it's raining it can really dampen your spirits, spending most your day in damp clothing and wet feet. Most items are around 1kg but some can be up to 28kg, some are marked "team lift" but your on your own, there is no team.Paid via bank via bank transfer, never had any issues with wages personally but damage to work vehicles comes out your wages (my depot excess was £1000 for insurance damage claims. There is some leeway for wear and tear, stone chips etc.Important for you to know, in Amazon's eyes the customer is always right at the same time, amazon is never wrong. This means that you are the bridge between these two parties, it's always going to be your fault. If the customer/recipient has any problem at all, missing items, damaged items or otherwise any complaints at all, including if they want to claim that they never received their item it will be labelled -

Pros

Bonuses are big, if you can hit all your targets.

Cons

Very long days, management ignore obvious issues, lots of unpaid waiting around.

Waste of time

This job is supposed to be flexi work but is not as flexi, the managers favour specific drivers who lick their bum and turn back drivers for no reason well for waiting in the long queue of those favoured drivers to get in the gate but turned away for being late 3 minutes due to waiting in the queue. Terrible terrible experience, people need to realise amazon will collapse if we stand for our right, all drivers need to unite and stand against the foul play teach them a lesson

Pros

None

Cons

Uneducated staff and managers

Avoid, avoid, avoid

I have worked on and off for amazon in Belfast over the last five years. I was a van driver and the money was rubbish after the van rental, fual and ad blue was paid. I was a security gaurd, which was the best position so far. But even at that you would get hassled as the rules changed on a daily basis. To top it of I picked up flex to make ends meet. The money wasn't great but it did help. I picked up a block today and headed up. I was 2 minutes late... And I was turned away at the gate. All that fuel to travel up for nothing. Amazon is an disgrace of a company. Run by mini dictators that only care about there balance sheet at the end of the year. Avoid avoid avoid.

None

Cons

Rushed

Long hours, rarely time for breaks, poor navigation system particularly in rural areas, sometimes to many parcels to fit in your van. Spent most days racing round to get finished. Regularly ended up going up lanes or drives with no turning areas so had to reverse back down in the dark, which ironically was one of Amazon’s safety policies not to ever reverse.

Pros

Good money

Cons

Long hours which makes pay not so good

Good for topping up income

Depot staff are great, although they're so busy they don't have time to answer questions when you start, so you need to be able to think on your feet.Delivery blocks allocated are often unrealistic, so expect to take longer than time set. Also if you have to return to depot with parcels that are cancelled by customer you are not paid for the time that this will take.I enjoy the work, seeing people happy to get their goods and it is good exercise as you need to go quickly between each delivery. I have a lot of rural areas, so these blocks always take longer than the allotted time, often there are private lanes to travel down to properties that are 'first gear' advisable! Also with rural the deliveries show on the app as a minute to next drop.......not possible on minor narrow roads without endangering other road users! Also recommend getting a signal booster for your mobile phone, to ensure the app works constantly....again, rural areas can be problematic.

Pros

Fresh air & exercise. Great to see people happy!

Cons

Deliveries cannot always be done within time set, routes and timings not always realistic.

Flexible opportunity to earn some extra income delivering parcels using your own car

Pro's - you can deliver parcels when you have spare time , offers are given on the flex app with times and pay which you can choose to accept . You load parcels into your car at the pick up station and the app navigates you to the customers addresses, the drop off locations provided by the app is usually very accurate but rarely it can navigate you through narrow back lanes. Sometimes they offer increased pay rates at short notice especially for evening blocks. Usually the delivery routes can be completed before scheduled end time if you organise the packages when loading your vehicle and if it's not dark. Cons - zero hour contract, you have to check the app for offers, but usually delivery blocks are available everyday, the standard rate of pay is poor considering the fuel cost, too many stops and parcels for the allocated time. Sometimes you have to cover a lot of distance, occasionally you have to deliver to apartments which is not easy, sometimes you deliver to farms through poor roads which can damage your car's suspension . So overall the pay is poor for the effort you put in. Night time deliveries in the dark can be a bit difficult. Sometimes customers are not in to receive delivery. So I would recommend accepting increased pay blocks otherwise it's not really worth it unless you don't have any other job

Should be good... It isn't!

Where do I start? The blocks are hit and miss. Some are straightforward, others are almost impossible to do.If there are any issues on amazon's end, you'll be blamed for it.Emailing driver support is pointless. You'll get a "copy-paste" reply, that either doesn't answer your question, or any question at all.The work is incredibly insecure. The terms of service set out a lot of different requirements and standards for the drivers, but don't set out anything for amazon themselves. If you ask for any information, regarding ANYTHING, you're SOL.If you have a dispute or appeal against amazon decisionz, the only people you can appeal to...Is amazon, so you can imagine how many appeals are successful.

Pros

Work when you want

Cons

Constantly fearing over job future.

Bad payers

I arrived to make deliveries, staff ignored me for 45 minutes and then told me I’d be paid for the inconvenience. I have since not been paid even though I was promised
