Band 5 - Agency (Current Employee) - Craigavon, County Armagh - 12 April 2023
I joined Ann's 6 months in a Band 5 role and i am loving it! working for an agency gives you a perfect work life balance and flexibility around my main job. i can pick up shifts around me. i can pick up ad hoc in to hospital settings. rates of pay are very competitive - compared to other agencies i have worked for in the past. my manager is very supportive, if i have any issues (which is very seldom) she has it resolved straight away.
Pros
great rates pf pay, flexible, supportive
Cons
12 hour shifts -but it is the nature of the job.

Poor wages ,
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Downpatrick, County Down - 11 April 2023
I was a nightshift carer for Ann’s for approx 18months. In one of their homes. The pay rate per hour was poor. I left and went to another care home ( different company) as a domestic for more pay per hour. Majority of the staff I worked with were friendly and easy to work with sadly this cannot be said about all,
Pros
Can’t think of any
Cons
Poor wages

Poor wages
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Downpatrick - 10 April 2023
I worked for Ann’s for approx 18 months. The home itself was ok with the majority of staff good to work with. But the wages weren’t great. I did night duty . I left and went to work in another nursing home as a domestic for more money than I got as a carer with Ann’s.

Wouldn't work there
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Belfast, County Antrim - 1 November 2022
Wouldn't work for anns home care if it was the last job on earth. They keep staff in north belfast that has had complaint after complaint put in against them because of the way they treat clients and how bully other staff that is working with them and management just ignores the complaints like it never happened just because they work so many hours. It's a complete joke

Rewarding fast paced
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Belfast - 18 October 2022
Working as a Care Assistant is a very rewarding job. it can be stressful as you have a job to do in a time frame which is set up by the trust. My manager was very supportive, if a client needed more time she pushes for that time for not only the client but for the carers on the ground to ensure we do not feel any additional stress. It inevitable to receive calls from the office - its a remote job working on the ground my manager worked hard to give me my set days off so i could have down time. i enjoyed my time in the community and led me to progress in my career in health care.

Not listened too..
Carer (Former Employee) - Portadown, County Armagh - 26 August 2022
Being a carer can be a fulfilling job. The running from client to client with a very short time for calls, is very difficult and stressful. Continually being called when your working and on your days off to pick up extra calls is frustrating. Management and staff in office do not listen to the carers out on the runs. Clients are lovely and it's nice to be out in the community.
Pros
Meeting people out in the community and making a difference for them.
Cons
Long hours. Management and staff in office don't listen to carers. Called to take on extra runs.

Busy
HCA (Former Employee) - Belfast, County Antrim - 21 August 2022
Too many clients on runs, not enough staff to support the amount of clients they are taking on, address the issues with management and not listened too which is very frustrating considering the job was ok to work in, constantly ringing on days off too which is annoying asking questions which could be sent as a text or wait until the next day ur on, I don’t know what an emergency im meant to help with if I’m not in… always asking for cover aswell and if you say no, ur scheduled in to work it anyway, also no flexibility which is promised unless you’ve children, it’s really a shame considering the job can be enjoyable if the issues highlighted above were dealt with properly.

Awful
Home Care Worker (Former Employee) - Antrim - 3 August 2022
Runs too long, call times too short to deliver quality care. Always under pressure to pick up extra calls. Always getting calls on days off. Only paid for the calls and not for your time travelling between them. All these companies seem to be the same. Wealthy owners are getting paid a lot of money by the Trusts but yet it is not being paid to the carers on the ground. It’s a shambles. Wages are absolutely shocking for what is expected of you.
Cons
Long hours, long runs, poor pay
