Delivery Driver in Crewe, Cheshire
on 22 April 2022
Worked at far better places
Went into work every day without fail with absolutely no problems, did every job to the best of my ability. However arriving to work one morning and the van had a puncture. Waited for that to be fixed (2 hours) and went out with the 10 hour run, tried to fail a delivery for an American Fridge freezer due to being given 12 minutes to complete the job, and it needing doors to be taken off which would take around an hour, with already being 2 hours behind. Depot organised for another crew to sort it out, we finished the run and got back at 19:30. And the very next day got told that they wouldn’t need my services anymore because of that ONE delivery out of 100’s of great delivery’s.

It’s hard and you don’t get paid well for the hours
Routes are pre-plannned by a computer or a sadist … say you get paid a “route” 8 hours … it doesn’t include delays, traffic, your drive home which could and regularly is 2-3 hours after the run. 5 star bonus scheme is a joke set up to fail… a customer can say you’re amazing and click 4 stars not 5 and you don’t get a payment from it no matter how many 5 stars you have already accrued… joke. It also isn’t accurate it’s based on say a washing machine to be Plummed in sterile conditions perfect fitting at AO base… but in real life every job is longer and different but you aren’t paid to reflect that.Calculate the hours worked and the pay you are always below minimum wage. Better jobs out there I wouldn’t do it if you don’t have to.

Stay away.
Do not believe what you are told at the interview. You will not get paid anything near what they advertise. They decide before you get into the van how long it will take you to do the day's work.... well add another 2-3 hours, but you won't get paid for the extra hours.Expect to work 50 -60 hours per month for free.... yes free. The routing system(s) they use is absolutely useless, it estimates the time from point A to B hours when the roads are quiet. There is No allowance for temporary speed restrictions, road works, rush hour traffic, issues at customers property, eg customer still in bed, customers on school run, customers pipe work is behind cupboards, customers pipe work is leaking etc etc.If you have American fridge freezer to install you have 17 minutes to get it off the back of the van, ( you may have 8 scrap appliances to offload first before you can get to it) unpack it remove the doors, get it in the customers house. Then you need to replace the doors reconnect the electrical components.Unscrew the back panel get the water pipe and filter out and connect to the water mains, remove all tape and packaging from inside the appliance, test the water is going through, clean up remove tools etc etc, and get back in the van , all in 17 minutes. Now if you can do this in this time you are going to do well, but 99% of the time this is impossible You will see you schedule fall further behind has the day progress.Once you get behind your schedule you will never catch up.When you do encounter problems you are expected to phone " Driver line" majority are lovely people, however it can take 15 minutes to get through to an advisor, 15 minutes you don't have, all in all it leads to delays, which it turn leads to you working hours over every day with no pay.The times they give you to install is not long enough, which causes drivers to rush, take short cuts, which then results in Damage/ claims against the crew, which then come out of you pocket. If you got paid for the hours worked it would be a good job, its not a easy job, but no-one said it was.My best advice would be stay away, the turn over of staff is ridiculous, and you are self employed, so pay your own tax, Ni, no sick pay no holiday pay.
