Great training long hours

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The training was incredible, but the hours were long. Sometimes 7am till 2am. This was back in 2005 so hopefully they have sorted it out now. But I did learn so much.

Company changed, lack of good leadership

After spending some time with the company, I can say it used to be a good place to work. However, it's clear that it's taken a downward turn. The company's values seem to have disappeared, leaving behind mostly hollow promises. The HR presence is lacking, apart from a few managers, there is a notable absence of effective leadership, leading to chaos and a highly stressful work environment. Despite being there for quite some time and have expressed my concerns, there was never an exit interview.

Pros

Good colleagues

Cons

Unbearably stressful place to work

Too good to be true!

Worked for the Lampery for around 3 weeks as an R&B manager before they got rid of me without proper reason. Induction seems great and definitely has a wow factor to it. Be aware that it's not as they present it to you on your first 2 days. Personally never got any training or an in-depth overview of the business, seems like it's a self-learning assessment. Did not feel any support from upper management to make sure I would succeed in the role which should be key to any good company. The dismissal process is as poor as the training and support the company provides you...

The management needs an improvement

Long hours, understaffed constantly, management not trained properly, my colleagues are the only excellent asset in this my work place, could use an improvement

Nice place to work

Worked here for a few years and was always good, plenty training and good incentives, kept busy on shift so days went in quick. Lots to learn and management were ok

Great Development

A great company to work for and I have learnt a lot over my tenure. Senior manager's allow you to own your area, but provide support if asked for. Similar challenges to other hospitality venues, and I'd venture other employers, but overall I'm very happy to work for Apex Hotels.

Nice place to work

Daily targetsStock take and inventoryCompetitive work culture where everyone is trying to outdo their colleaguesHardest part is long working hours with little compensation

Pros

Cons

Very low wages

Odd management culture

Very mixed bag in management with some very much lacking an understanding for zero hours staff especially regs other commitments like university. Decent benefits though

Fast paced but overall good environment

Working at the restaurant has its perks, free food and although it can get very busy during holidays, theres a sense of teamwork and comradeship if you’re lucky that will help you get by

Good but not great

the place was alright, it seems to be all about numbers with them though and no actual care into the hotel. But you do get free lunches and that. But not really much career progression.

Horrible management and work place

No structure or management at the hotel. No training was provided and never were told what to do as part of my job but was shouted at when did tasks wrong. Chefs verbally abused staff and left staff crying due to this. Pay was decent but the treatment of staff and lack of training weakened this strength.

Pros

free lunch

Cons

mistreatment of staff, lack of training and management

Love to the nights workers!

Great place to work in many regards. Kind and accommodating team overall. However, there are some toxic working methods at play, and I feel upper management would benefit from being advised about dignified and efficient conflict resolution. During my time as Assistant night manager - I witnessed team members be publicly chastised, and humiliated in relation to errors. I witnessed certain managers angrily explode in front of staff and guests. Furthermore, A culture of whistleblowing is encouraged, and this has resulted in employees personal lives being discussed as fodder to escape boredom. The building has a lot of issues with plumbing etc. These issues are never effectively resolved and the onus falls upon the team to continually resolve things like floods. If you fancy insomnia and drowning in a sea of yellow water - this may be the role for you.

Disenchantment Experience

The best thing about Apex are the colleague/team members you work with. Wonderful people under the wrong umbrella The worst thing about them is their way of dealing with things. If you raise an issue it will linger on for ages and if you question it that's the end of your time at Apex.A typical shift is full of challenges as you are mostly on your own during the night being a housekeeper, security guard, chef(room service menu), bartender, Fire Marshal and maintenance. During the day there is support. The salary is low as they try to safe as much money as they can. Mostly short staffed by choice. You can not afford to get sick or ask for holidays. Staff food is unwholesome. The hardest part of the job was to make them understand the problems we as a staff are facing and to see how badly some of the old staff were treated and misused. The most enjoyable part was the training, they are best to train you and they help you whenever you get stuck with something and you learn a lot as its like a hand on manager role.

Pros

Training & Team members

Cons

unsupportive management, low salary, short staffed, Health & safety issues

Not bad but not good

Some good people but the turnover is ridiculous. Cannot keep staff meaning those left have to pick up the lack. No comradeship anymore, every man for themselves.Free lunches is good, requested days off usually get approved, tips during the festival are nice.

Pros

Free lunches. Hotel discount.

Cons

Understaffed, Underappreciated, No work culture, Cliques, Little internal promotion, Distant management.

Has its pros and cons

Good place to work, get a lot of benefits. Get free lunch, but it’s sadly cr*p. But apart from the shi**y staff lunch it’s decent. But most managers are kn*bs.

Not a bad place to work

Overall good place to work but they are not flexible at all. Even on strikes days you are required stay in the Hotel while you can work from home. Fast paced environment.
