Insights into Apex Prime Care
Areas for improvement
- Trust in colleagues
- General feeling of work happiness
- Fair pay for job
Clients were lovely
CARE WORKER (Former Employee) - Newport - 23 June 2022
Changing direction when already on your way to your next call, as you have pulled over to take a call from the office and they have decided to send you elsewhere. Waste of petrol. No pay for travel time, therefore a long day dashing from one place to another and back again for not enough money for total hours worked.

Care staff are paid very well, office staff are paid poorly
Team Leader/Deputy Manager (Former Employee) - Hampshire - 3 February 2022
Great rate of pay for a carer, poorly paid for office staff. Currently social care is in trouble, everyone is worn out, recruitment isn’t great, people don’t want to work in care, although a very rewarding job it can be a thankless task . Domiciliary care isn’t recognised unlike the NHS. Throughout Covid it was the care staff and district nurses on the front line, nobody else
Pros
Helping vulnerable people
Cons
Hours

Lovely clients and staff. Very flexible
Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Farnborough, Hampshire - 17 January 2022
Apex is a great company to work for , very rewarding job , some calls can be easy but the day can be very challenging too. Hours are flexible but need to find a good balance with home and work life. If you enjoy driving then your find job easier. I can work from anything up to 50, 60 hours ! Pay is more weekends. Also can pick up shifts easy.
Pros
Lovely clients
Cons
Time keeping

It’s an ok place to work for but they don’t treat everyone fairly and would look around more.
Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Farnborough, Hampshire - 15 January 2022
They don’t treat everyone fairly. I do enjoy working here but more for the customers. The manager could be more involved, supportive and approachable, you only hear from her when work needs covering. The coordinators can never approve your holiday as always short staffed. The supervisor could be more approachable rather than just bite your head off. The pay sounds good but it includes your fuel and travel time (you don’t actually get any travel time). Other companies in the area are paying more. When you are made to travel from area to area when people call in sick, it doesn’t cover your fuel. I would look around before applying here.
Pros
Customers are lovely
Cons
Long hours, Poor pay, No travel time, Poor management, Supervisors not approachable, Always short staffed, Constant phone calls on days off to cover work.

Poorly run, no organisation, stressful
Domiciliary Care Worker (Former Employee) - Christchurch and highcliffe - 14 January 2022
Too many clients and not enough time to give them the attention they deserve. Little or no training, no support from seniors or managers, just told to get on with it! Don't work for apex, don't waste your time. Very under valued and under appreciated.
Cons
Badly run company, no benefits to working for them at all. Pick another care company, plenty to choose from.

Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Havant, Hampshire - 10 January 2022
Day to day tasks are lovely it was great to help look after people in their own homes and getting to know them and their families. Flexible working around child care needs. Management was disorganised, spoken to like garbage

poor company with poor attitude to staff or welfare
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Basingstoke, Hampshire - 8 December 2021
poor management overall. only paid for the set time of the job regardless if it takes you longer for the care needs to be meet and you to meet your duty of care. large gaps in-between jobs which means your pay works out at a lot less. no millage paid instead they pay some ridicules idea of an extra £1.25 a call to 'cover the cost' but then send you 10 miles between jobs for pointless reasons. rude management and very unsupportive of individuals needs. over all very very poor company I would never recommend for anyone to be enslaved by.
Pros
nice clients
Cons
backstabbing management, poor support

my experience
Care Worker/Support Worker (Current Employee) - Hailsham, East Sussex - 18 November 2021
long hours but its job satisfaction . It has been hard time and everyone has worked hard. Generally everyone pulls together . Good working team generally . the hardest part is the clients expectations of you. The best bit is that you have given them the best service you can and made their lives easier

Cons

Overworked, underpaid and undervalued.
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Farnborough - 24 August 2021
Management do not value their staff and treat them poorly. Other staff expect you to take on shifts they do not want to work. You are mistreated by customers and the staff justify it by saying “they are like that to everyone”. If you refuse to take on extra shifts you are made to feel guilty. You are also not allowed to be off sick at all and if you do, staff will belittle you.
Cons
Long hours, small breaks, excessive work load, understaffed.

Amazing company
Registered Manager (Current Employee) - Newbury - 1 June 2021
I have worked for Apex prime care for 3 years and in that time I have achieved so much more than I thought was possible. I would recommend apex prime care to anyone interested in care and also for someone who is looking to progress in their career

Lovely people to work with
Home Carer (Current Employee) - Poole, Dorset - 19 March 2021
They give you loads of hours to start with, I think this is to see if new carers are going to stay. If you do decide to stay it is the best company to work for. The management are great and really listen. When you pop into the office you are made to feel like one of the family. Like any care company they reduce your hours when they take on someone new. My advice is to stick at it. They are a great company to work for but as a zero hours contract you need to bear with it until they realise you are reliable . Lovely family company who does actually have the clients interests at heart. We all form a bond with our clients and they make our job a dream job ;-)
Pros
Life work balance
Cons
New carers are employed and you lose your hours

Poor inconsistent care, incompetent coordinators
Carer (Former Employee) - Sussex - 20 August 2020
Zero hours, never know in advance of shifts, unable to book A/L. Carers paid on different rates, some disadvantaged. Clients have no continuity of care. Calls go in at any time sometimes people receive a morning call at 7am but the next day at 9am, and this is because the coordinators couldn't organise anything. Sometimes massive breaks unpaid, sometimes paid, and other times no travel time so you are forced to cut care calls short. Clients have no idea who to expect. Their carers change daily and you rarely get the same rota twice. No paid mileage and mileage can add up to as much as 50 miles a day. If you report concerns its ignored. You are dissuaded from seeking support from colleagues, and no supervision is offered. You never speak to the same office staff.
Pros
The clients
Cons
Unfair unequal pay between staff, no breaks, no security, no annual leave, no support

Did not enjoy
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Hampshire - 27 June 2020
Most service users are lovely but nothing is worth how badly you’re treated by management. Most work colleagues lovely but some backstabbers. If your face fits you’re fine and will get plenty of hours. Not enough travel time between calls , some calls just 15 minutes, long gaps in between calls. Pay seems good but after petrol used works out much less. Did not stay here long too stressful.
