Can be stressful

While management were quite supportive and have your back when customers get difficult, they also pushed to sell care insurances and cards. You’re in competition with other colleagues about who can do the most care sales a day and this is put into a “leaderboard” so that managers can see who’s doing the most, this then is used in the morning briefing about the previous sale day and if you’re unable to get any cares or cards they make it known that you’re not working hard enough and need to work on it. Monthly statistic meetings can be stressful as they blame you for not selling cares and tell you that you need more training. It’s hard to sell these when customers cut you off while offering this and usually get quite disgruntled. If this job wasn’t so driven by cares and cards I think it would be a better and more relaxed place to work

Team was lovely

Working at Argos for a year one of the most stressful jobs ever. Training was a joke none for first two weeks. Then sent to a store that was nothing like what I was working in. At said store was shown tills but nothing in detail. Then was sent back to run a whole store by myself. Support from some people was good but people in authority was zero until something wasn’t done. Rubbish company and so is Sainsburys

Stressful work environment

Stressful at times and underpaid for what you do.If you get a good manager there can be a work life balance somewhat however as it's retail this can only go to far.Targets constantly changing and difficult to then achieve.

Overall, it’s a good place to work

Not a bad place to work it just depends on the people there. Like any job, if the atmosphere isn’t good, You won’t enjoy being there. Around holiday times (Christmas) offer lots of overtime normally for delivery’s etc.

Cons

Wasn’t provided decent training

Fun workplace

Friendly colleagues but the managers can single you out, making you work more than others. Favouritism does exists with certain individuals. If you can ignore those factors then it’s a nice workplace.

Pros

Free incentives for hard work

Cons

Short shifts

Fun

It was a great environment although busy at times would lead to stress due to not much staff but overall a great temporary experience, good for university students

Pros

Good pay for all ages

Cons

Long hours

Not the best

The fixate more about profit than they do customers and staff members the push staff to their limits with their profit and care plan targets and like to call you on your days off for cover shifts and sub you out to other stores. Also provided pore PPE your expected to wear mid top trainers with not toe cap protection and black trousers working at night not the best as a delivery driver that as a one-person carry of 25kg and you spend most of your time exiting the van at the roadside rather than the path side due to parking issues that you get faced with.

Nice place to work

Pay not bad for what you do, nice atmosphere and pretty laid back. Managers will help you if you can and try and accommodate working around you commitments.

Not bad

Good place to work, easy job, pay not terrible. It's the team that makes it, reasonable hours and decent benefits from Argos and Sainsburys. Would recommend

No progression

There's no progression, even tho at interview stage they say there's lots of opportunities? All members of staff are trained in all areas of the job but you do not get utilised.Unrealistic targets, if a customers says no to somthing then its not good enough and your not offering correctly, its almost comical and delusional!Alot of brown nosing..........

Pros

None

Cons

All of it

Fun workplace

Very fun work place, cannot fault the staff or the drivers as they was absolutely amazing. However managers can sometimes embarass staff in front of customers or belittle them in front of customers. General manager would call the staff and talk bad about them to other members of staff, GM could have made it a better place to work as she let it all down. Other than that was a great place to work.

Manager bully new temp christmas workers.

They scream and shout at you for being slow even though you are walking a 100 miles per hour and will also abuse you and put you on multiple long shifts for 10 days at time in a row if you are willing to put in the hours and try land the job.

Not what it used to be

It used to be fun to work there but since it moved in sainsburys you hardly see your colleagues, no one cares if you’re working late, sometimes even on your own and especially how you’re gonna get home if you don’t drive and it’s dark outside, they just put you in for those shifts anyway! It’s gone majorly downhill in the last ten years. The training is also appalling due to very little time to train and a lot to learn. Argos may look basic to the the customers but there is actually a lot of processes to follow (most of which are archaic) so you have have to be thrown in at the deep end. It needs to stop trying so hard covering so much and go back to simple customers pick their items, pay and you go get it. Also don’t get me started on the selling of product care, you would literally be told off for not selling any!

Pros

Discount/seeing items first

Cons

Unsociable hours/unrealistic targets

Okay but not great.

They forget to mention that as a part of the role, you will be made to sell Argos care and encourage Argos Card applications. They frequently pressure you on your statistics and about how you're not selling enough care or cards. If your numbers aren't high enough, they assume its your fault and give you booklets to learn to tailor your offer better. They don't pay you for the extra learning you're expected to do and will test you to make sure you've learnt it. I don't agree with pressuring people into taking insurance out on items so this doesn't sit right with me morally. Currently I'm looking for another job. If you can handle the pressure then go for the job, but it is not a healthy work environment. It is not worth the stress.

Pros

None

Cons

Constant reviews on your statistics

Hard and Stressful

Working at this particular Argos location is not easy what so ever. This job can be extremely stressful especially when it comes to doing returns. You get yelled at by customers and pressured by managers to sell Argos cards and care products and there's no commission for this at all. The security guard is very rude to customers when they ask for help on the tablets. I did not enjoy working at this place the only pro is the pay.

Pros

Pay

Cons

You have to wait 3 months before you receive your discount card sometimes even longer, Rude security.
