Retail work
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Manchester - 10 January 2023
retail work is getting worse. getting rid of staff and cutting hours where they can. stressing employees out to points of nervous breakdowns. no real care shown even when the issa brother came into the store they left within 20 minutes, not interested unless they are making money. good benefits though 10 percent off shopping

Not best company
Asda Colleague (Current Employee) - Manchester - 5 January 2023
Hard worked, poorly payed. Mithered to do extra. Monitored work. Understaffed and unfair distribution of work. Lazy managers. Difficult to get ppe. Dirty washrooms and toilets. Equipment unfit for use in a lot of cases and unclean. Understaffed so one person has to do two peoples work. Most employees are unhappy.
Pros
10 percent discount
Cons
Constantly in the go

Fun place to work (but bad management)
Home and Leisure Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 11 October 2022
I worked at Asda for years through high school and university, and I really loved the job. The people in my department were great and I made some really good friends, and the work really wasn’t too difficult. I don’t think I was ever asked to do too much, I was trained on several department across the store, and there was lots of overtime available. The hours were also changed around to fit into my schedule. I will say that lots of the managers were absolutely incompetent and didn’t know what was going on on the shop floor, but we basically just got on with the job ourselves.

Customer Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester - 4 October 2022
Adequate pay and useful for students looking for part time work as they help to balance your life. Good workplace culture and helpful management. Decent temporary role

Great staff bad management
Grocery Colleague (Former Employee) - Manchester - 13 September 2022
Some managers were decent, some absolutely terrible no compassion or empathy Terrible contract where they can change your days or hours as they please for the sake of business needs

Face paced but easy workplace
Asda Colleague (Former Employee) - Manchester - 13 September 2022
Busy at times but quite easy- deliveries, maintaining stock levels etc. Once you get to grips with te job it is easy and the rate of pay is good for what you do.

Great supermarket to work for
Baker (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 4 August 2022
Started with Asda at 16 and they kept me on through uni so we’re very flexible. Lots of chances to get promoted onto section leader if you want to do it. Hours are as decent as they can be for a supermarket. Colleagues always friendly but managers can be cliquey.
Pros
Flexibility
Cons
Management

Poor
Counter Assistant (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 22 July 2022
It was a poor place to work with poor people and poor managers. All politics if your face fits and if it doesn’t then you’ll be treated like the enemy. Just disgusting practices don’t work here.

Managers
Online Shopper (Current Employee) - Manchester - 18 July 2022
The job itself is simple enough, but because they don’t have enough staff you’re often set unattainable goals, and even if you do somehow manage to accomplish them, it’s still “not good enough”. The managers barely listen to you and treat you more as a number than an actual person. Lots of bullying from co-workers too, but some are nice and make it bearable. Standard pay for a retail job but not enough to make a decent living, so this job is more ideal for younger people. 10% discount is nice. Not enough hours.

Horrible management and horrible co workers. The job is very stressful since they hardly have any equipment. And the atmosphere is just depressing no wonder they are always hiring.

Often feels like a family and success is rewarded but can be boring, demanding and under paid.
Online Manager (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 11 April 2022
Worked my way up from being a colleague to section leader to trading manager. Met so many great people along the way and loved most of my time in Asda however eventually it gets boring and repetitive. Under paid and over expected of.

Good money
Service Colleague (Former Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 10 March 2022
Quite boring, but it's a relaxed place to work at. Managers really don't talk to you much, neither do other employees, if it's something you're looking for

Great people, shocking expectations.
Section Leader (Current Employee) - Manchester, Greater Manchester - 28 February 2022
The people you work with are one of the only reasons worth staying. The KRAs are ridiculously high, hard to achieve and cause undue stress on an already stretched workforce. The reduction in the amount of colleagues make your job unnecessarily hard while the bar is set too high for such a low paid position.
Cons
High workload, lack of colleagues, lack of support.
