Hands-on job with plenty of freedom

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Customer Delivery Driver is a relaxed, physical job with plenty of opportunity to meet people, but with a feeling of being your own boss. The pay is relatively poor, but there are more than enough rewards to make it worthwhile.

Good work environment

Lots of good people who were helpful and on hand when difficulties arose. As a delivery driver, main stress is driving long hours on small roads in a big van.

Pros

Good colleagues

Cons

Risking your own license for a relatively low pay

Enjoyable job but poor pay

All staff at the store I work at are very friendly and helpful. The job itself is ok most of the time but do get the odd off days. Start the shift by doing van checks then count scan and load totes onto the van, which isn't hard. I enjoy it very much as when you leave the store your out on the road on your own. Down side is pay, worse paid job in home delivery.

Worked with them for three years and enjoyed every second.

Like one big happy family. Work as a unit. One gets praise, all praised. One in the bad books, all in bad books. You work as a unit. Having said that, you still feel free and work off your own back with freedom to a certain extent. Also every day is a different one. No boring repetition work. I am a driver. Love it.

Pros

Free to work independently and to a time scale.

Cons

Sometimes you need a broad back with customer expectations.

Poorest company I've ever seen

Poor management, changing schedules that are not communicated to drivers, vehicles that are poorly maintained & unreasonable time expectations on routes... this is just for starters.Standards are poor, there is little to no sense of team whatsoever, you just go in, do whatever is sitting there for you to do (which can change dramatically on a daily basis), then hope you can get out on time to try & deliver on time... With lengthy distances to first drops, this is a place where you frequently have little time to take breaks, despite the legal requirement to do so. Either deliver your loads OR have a break. You can rarely do both.Often the case that loads aren't ready. Vehicles are late back which puts you out late resulting in customer complaints. Hardly professional. If late out, then who is responsible to call customers? The store? The driver? Well, the driver's already late, so how much extra time should they take to call every customer as well? Very poor. Customers complain again. Also poor use of their on systems, a failure to maintain any sustainable standard, e.g. drivers on morning runs don't bother refueling after the shift whereas ALL drivers are required to do this after every shift. Places a time load onto the late shift. UNFAIR....All in all, I am about as likely to shop there knowing they treat workers with such contempt, as I am to jump off a cliff. Never again!(By the way, ever wonder why the rear of their vans have a full screen displaty asking for new drivers? well, now you know...!)

Pros

There is a discount card that MAY arrive after 12 weeks

Cons

Poor management, no leadership, low standards, poor wages, lack of clarity on hours, holidays etc.

went from good to bad

everything allways got worse, was a good job at first then things were just allways going down hill, they were finding more ways to save money and pile more work onto the drivers

Pros

not really a bad job for what is an unskilled job

Cons

they allways want more more more more more from the drivers

Advisory review of wages in line with inflation

Wages are not in line with other supermarkets, they are far from it , also single time for overtime and weekends, absolutely disgraceful, although management and overall work environment are pleasant.

Low stress job!

Generally a simple job with easy to follow routes and delivery procedures. Usually about 15 drops and timing is easy to achieve. Loading the vans can be a little hard work especially if the load is running late and needs loading in a rush.

Pros

Relaxed working environment

Cons

Vans are not maintained very well and often have defaults that make the job unnecessarily harder

Asda workers are great ,badly treated by management.

Asda is a very stressful place to work .Very bad managers ,bad pay if you get paid on time and properly The managers are all ways on a power struggle and if something goes wrong your to blaim .I would never recommend anyone to work for them ..

Pros

10 percent discount card

Cons

Long hours hard work

Your just a number.

Just a number nothing else, great out in the van, guys are great, hey most staff are great until you get that 1, I was told I have to work at least 1 weekend until I reminded her I work every weekend, double shifts at that, I walked away from the job, pickers do a good job but there isn’t enough of them for the lunch drivers, up to 3 late on the road.

Pros

Good guys

Cons

Pay.

Generally easy but can be frustrating

The best part is getting out in time, but so often the pickers are late, and the management slow. This can make it frustrating when you need to start the run in time to avoid late drops. There is a high turnover of drivers which says a lot. Pay not brilliant considering the responsibility that drivers have to face.

Pros

Store discount, good atmosphere with other drivers.

Cons

Heavy lifting, stress when late out.

Satisfying job helping those who are unable to get their shopping

It's a straightforward job, you can go on and get the job done without any issues. The only part which is terrible about the ferring store is that the home shopping managers and section leaders don't work as a team. They're willing stab you in the back and will spread any issues you raise with them for their own succession in the store.

Pros

Free coffe

Cons

Uncomfortable to work in the department

A shambles

Your told in the interview you will have 14-18 deliveries per today, in reality its 28 plus. Your nearly always late leaving the store.you have to put up with irate customers because their whole year is ruined because Your 20 mins late, you get no support off management, who only expect you to rush around like a lunatic. Vehicles are in a poor state of repairs. I'd avoid working here if you can

Pros

Your work colleagues are brilliant

Cons

Bad management, low pay and no support

Asda Byker

Go in the shop it’s filthy. Don’t work for them, they are a joke. Management with absolutely no training on how to handle staff, not such a thing as a work life balance. We need you you come in or look for another job. Refused point blank to supply PPE, excuse? Only one key for cupboard and the ladies on the sick so tough. Do not work for ASDA BYKER

Pros

Meeting nice customers

Cons

Management

Bad store management

Store manager seems to get his kicks from embarrassing and being disrespectful to staff under him. Getting dept managers to do very menial tasks. Shifts changed at short notice. Very little communication. No management around on late shifts.

Pros

Discount card

Cons

low pay compared to other similar jobs

Asda van driver

Good job poor money… you can be sat around on your run for a few hours depending on your store and how busy it is. For a student looking for a part time job that can drive the job I’d say is perfect but if you’ve got a family too run or house too pay for go else where money isn’t good enough

Pros

Easy jobs don’t do a lot

Cons

Poor pay

Not good.

Managers don't have a clue, don't give support with insane work loads, you can get sent on delivery very late and expected to finish delivery and if you say no you get abuse

Delivery driver

It’s not the best. Some days are easy and some days are really hard. Customers can be vile and ungrateful. It’s a lot of very heavy lifting, speeding to keep up with time slots otherwise you will get in trouble for late delivery’s. Not many perks of the job. And a lot of b**chy staff members even the men. Nothing and I mean nothing is confidential! And you have to take vans out that aren’t always road worthy of you don’t then management can be funny with you.

Pros

10% discount

Cons

So much
