Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Easy work and everyone is friendly and can have a laugh and plenty of overtime only thing don’t like is the fact they ring or txt you on your days off or on holiday to come in this happens every day off

Driver Bishop auckland

Highly don't recommend . Every week start 5 new drivers . 0 IQ management. They don't think about drivers and safety. Preferred new drivers every week.

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Long night hours.

Not great

Relatively straightforward role, never really under pressure regarding your job. Management not great, incentives pretty much non-existent. Advancement is inevitable if your face fits.

Friendly department but only small contracts available with low hourly rate

Good friendly environment, management do their best to accommodate work life balance. Pay doesn't match competitors for same job role. If you're willing to work extra hours you need to be completely flexible.

Don’t bother

I’ve been there for almost 2 months and it’s clear that the management haven’t got a clue about how to do their jobs, and some how it’s your problem. It took over a month of asking for a login to their website to view payslips and book holiday, and that’s because someone higher than my section leaders had to help. I still don’t have a full uniform, and the vans are all broken in one way or another, just on the verge of being barely legal to drive. It would be worth the hassle if you got paid more like other super markets, but Asda don’t even pay you that well!

Not to bad

Not bad place over all the management is very good but the vans are not the best and time slots are so times so short to get from a to b is such a short time is a joke

Good job and you stay local

I worked there when it was owned by Walmart. Then the New company changed everything. Yes they put the pay up for everyone to £10.10 but not drivers who used to earn 30p more than shop floor staff. Then when your finished driving you were told to clock out, so no staying your full shift to get your full pay by helping in the warehouse or shop floor. I went from 32 hour to 24 because when your finished your run then go home. So I left as I was losing in the end 10 hours a week which worked out at £250 a month. Lovely company to work for and still look after there staff, but your better off on the shop floor as you earn more

Pros

free lunches, at bank holidays and 10-20% discount

Cons

keep changing your hours

Delivery driver

Very good work infirment to work in. PAY could be better. Holidays pay is good plus uniform. Pay every 4 weeks. Every driver will sit a test on driving.

Great place to work

Found it a great place to work. If you followed the instructions the work was pretty simple good mixture of shift patterns available during the week plenty of overtime if you ever wanted it. Give it a go

Not bad at all

Had fun working here, staff were friendly and tried to accommodate any requests you had . I worked there for one year and would consider returning.

A place where you can get on with your job

I started here in 2019 just before the pandemic as a delivery driver. During my time i have seen a lot of people from all walks of life come and go. Its a job that you've got to enjoy driving and not come in with the attitude that. Its only delivering shopping becasue it can be quite stressful and fast pace at high demand times. There are a few long term drivers who have been there for years well before i started so the overall job cant be that bad for someone who is looking to come in to this industry. If its weekends you want off then this job wont be for you its a retail environment thats open 7 days a week. I have enjoyed my 3 years of been here but im getting older now and need a work life balance with having children.

Busy and unsupported

Asda management seem not to care about health and safety, hi vi's supplied ,no torch, no support after 8 at night. Vehicles not serviced any where near enough, after loosing brakes asked to lock vehicle then after ten minutes restart, brakes did return but no follow up or service check to ensure problem does not return.

Pros

Great work collegues

Cons

Everything else

Fast paced but casual

Once you know how to do the job you are mostly left to get on with loading the van and deliveries. Sometimes the time pressure and finding properties can be difficult but if you are someone that likes driving and being out and about its a good fit. Pay isn't amazing but what would you expect from a zero hour low skill job. Other supermarkets pay their drivers slightly more. Managers are a mixed bag as you would expect from a supermarket.

Pros

Out on the road, no managers constantly there to hassle you.

Cons

Unsociable hours, Poor pay.

Poor management

Friendly staff, great environment when managers aren’t around. Can get on with your job whilst enjoying interacting with other staff members. Will make friends for life but will be looking for a new job not long after starting.

Starts well and goes downhill

The level of man management is atrocious. They don’t value the good drivers who do the job right. There is a handful of good drivers who never have lates or earlys but they are never recognised. Just cast down with the slackers. There are no incentives for being good at the job.Star points are only ever awarded for doing extra shifts, never for good work.Management have brought in a lot of rules that must be obeyed but aren’t interested in listening to things that would make working conditions better for drivers. Drivers now have to put all returns back on the shop floor, including huge loads that have been brought back. Was an enjoyable job when I started. But it’s got progressively worse. More expected of you for no extra pay.

Lovely, friendly people to work with.

The work is generally fairly easy...load the van perform the safety check and follow the sat nav to the locations and unload.Sometimes customers are out, which messes up the schedule.Hefting 7 crates of shopping up several flights of stairs in the rain or in flats is only for hard core step aerobics enthusiasts.

Pros

Fairly easy going and fun, friendly people in store.

Cons

The rain and stairs and people ordering lots of heavy water.

Fast paced job but not bad

They leave you alone to get on with it, lots of drivers leave saying it’s too hard but a bit if organisation and it’s easy! Shame about the pay… it’s too low unfortunately.

Pros

Own boss

Cons

Pay low

Avoid if you can

The delivery driver job is decent if you are young and fit, maybe fit around a uni course. As a grown man with bills and a mortgage to pay, avoid this job. The pay is ridiculously bad for what you are expected to do on most of your runs (payload is usually 1000kg for a split run) and lots of flats and stairs. It would be okay if the runs were fairly given out but they are not. Some guys get it consistently easy, some consistently challenging. Work to life balance is poor, 2 days off a week but not together and you must work a day at the weekend- 2 if you're unlucky. Managers dont really tend to help or listen to your concerns, they're there for the title and the salary only. Top heavy with management and not enough people that have worked the job.Care homes are horrendous- you have to sit and wait for crates back when you used to be able to just leave them and the next driver could pick them up. And the work hours are unsociable- can start as early as 6.30 and finish as late as 23.00. There is no overtime rate, and asda are always difficult when paying you any extra hours you may have worked- money is always missing and you have to chase it up, not ideal. The vans are disgusting- given milk and cream/yoghurt bursts all the time in the fridges, black mould is allowed to grow and it goes unwashed/unmaintained from the cleaning staff- hazardous to health. Some of the regular customers are great, and a few of the guys you work with are great as well- but the cons far outweigh the pros. Other supermarkets pay a better rate.

Rushed, crowded and a bit stressed

Lots of work to do. Too much is expected from managers, who are also overworked. This leads to lack of accessibility of management. They are always off doing something else.

Pros

Free machine coffee

Cons

Generally unorganised
