Store Colleague (Former Employee) - Wisbech, Cambridgeshire - 2 February 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedStarting at Asda the management was great but after being there a while we’re quite poor, this doesn’t speak for every asda though. Work can feel quite repetitive and empty but that comes with the territory. However for the skill level pay is fair.
Pros
Discount, flexible hours
Cons
Repetitive, monotonous work

Good part time
Store Colleague (Current Employee) - Elgin - 27 January 2023
It’s a good part time/full time job but the salary is low compared to the task you perform. The colleague discount card is good benefit. There should be better arrangements of number of persons available per shift instead of over working the few staff available
Pros
Colleague discount card
Cons
Last minute shift covers, mid salary

Night Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Barrow-In-Furness, Cumbria - 26 January 2023
Not much to say, good pay, nighttime hours, can be stressful. Part time hours wasnt too bad, kind of hard to have a work life balance when working overnights

Do it if you want to built career in retail.
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - London - 25 January 2023
It is a place where you will learn and enjoy only if you have nice colleagues and supervisor. Fast paced work, target driven. The biggest issue was attrition as staff use to leave within 1 month.
Pros
Extra Shifts
Cons
Attrition

Lovely colleague shocking management
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Rhyl, Denbighshire - 13 January 2023
The colleague's you work with are great but the management is shocking!!! They never say thankyou or actually say anything nice unless it's to moan they expect you to do the job of three people and moan if you don't do it right.

Retail work
Store Assistant (Current Employee) - Manchester - 10 January 2023
retail work is getting worse. getting rid of staff and cutting hours where they can. stressing employees out to points of nervous breakdowns. no real care shown even when the issa brother came into the store they left within 20 minutes, not interested unless they are making money. good benefits though 10 percent off shopping

Stressful but good money
Store Colleague (Former Employee) - Oadby, Leicestershire - 5 January 2023
The interview process was practically inexistent, they put you to work for an hour and I got hired on the spot. It is a very fast-paced environment but all my colleagues were nice and very helpful. However, I feel as though I had to rely on them too much given that I was given no training whatsoever. Management definitely needs to be reviewed but apart from that I enjoyed it as a part-time job. The pay was good.
Pros
Good staff
Cons
Lack of communication from management

Avoid asda
ASDA Retail Assistant (Current Employee) - Weston-super-Mare - 1 January 2023
The level of respect for employees is awful. It’s very common to be underpaid. Levels of training are abysmal. Grievances don’t appear to be considered. Guilt tripping into overtime.
Pros
Decent pay
Cons
No paid breaks

Only temp contracts
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Glenrothes, Fife - 25 December 2022
If you’re in a secure job, don’t leave it to work at asda. Job security is none existent. Paid on time and can’t argue with the shifts I was given . It all fitted around my social life
Pros
Good hours
Cons
Long days on feet

Toxic and draining job
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Rushden, Northamptonshire - 24 December 2022
I worked here for nearly 2 years and not all of those 2 years were bad. During that time I was supported when needed and in my first 6months i had a very good manager who was very supportive and helped me develop my career at asda. But during the last year of me working there it became a very draining and toxic environment. If you start of as a temp be aware because they could get rid of you at any given subject, if they have a overtime ban you could go from working 40 hours to your contracted like 8 for example. especially in January. They will cut your hours with barely any notice and cancel shifts. Management especially general management changes frequently I think I’ve seen 5 general managers in 2 years. During to the time I left there was no general manager and it was “shared responsibility” which was properly managed. Some of the managers stand there and do nothing or when they do contribute they do the bare minimum, there is no support for colleagues whatsoever. Some managers will just let you struggle. The majority of the section leaders are good, but under a lot of pressure from the very poor management. But one section leader in particular is very poor and switches moods very very quickly based on what kind of mood they’re in that day, is very rude and abrupt causing tension and atmosphere to a lot of colleagues. He is very unprofessional, loud and abrupt. There is no training whatsoever or if you do get any it’s the bare minimum you are thrown into the job and expected to know what to do and not to complain about it. Would not advise working here.
Cons
Toxic management

Not great
Store Assistant (Former Employee) - Birmingham - 13 December 2022
The older staff tend to be quite entitled and rude however some are okay. There’s no career progression. The pay is okay and the working hours are okay though.

Awful
Store Assistant (Nights) (Current Employee) - Long Eaton, Derbyshire - 5 December 2022
Honestly the best thing is the pay all the staff are rude they pick on you and bully you. If your young like me and want a social life then don’t do nights at asda. They expect you to be on par with them in a month they also use there power trip on you. Don’t go unless you need money then leave in a month
Pros
Few staff members are nice
Cons
Managers and sone staff are horrible, no life

Basic
Retail Sales Assistant (Former Employee) - Walsall, West Midlands - 4 December 2022
Can be a good place to work depending on management. Just be prepared you have to work weekend and there is ifs and buts unless you are a favourite. Breaks are not paid anymore, asda just care about the money unfortunately. No really good initiatives to keep people motivated. Stayed at asda 10years, tried to progress and didn’t get picked as I didn’t look the part and was too friendly.
