Wouldn’t go back

Indeed featured review

Didn’t like my time with Aspens. Too strict, no fun place. High expectations and responsibility for minimum wage. No trainings offered. You also have to be very careful who you’re talking to and watch your every word.

Pros

Free water

Cons

Low paid job, high expectations, management not friendly

Absolutely shocking company to work for

Worst company I've ever worked for. They promote people before profits, but you can't even get basic equipment from them. They say all employees are family, but you never see anyone above operational level. Wages were wrong numerous times, overtime not paid and a pay rise was out of the question! Poor support for unit managers but they're expected to do area manager paperwork without additional hours or pay. Your opinion, knowledge and experience didn't count if the operations manager wanted their way. They let you work 50/60 hours a week and take work home but pay you your basic hours. I felt like I was pushed out of a job I loved because of lack of support and bad management, but the best thing I ever did was walk out the door and not return!

Poor management above operational management level

I worked for this company for several years with a really good team. The job was extremely stressful and Aspens offer very little in the way of support. If you have staff off you are expected to manage and just get on with it. Sometimes this is to the detriment of service to the school. However the school was very unsupportive and if you don’t have that doing your job is made more difficult.I had a good Ops manager. And I loved my job. If you enjoy working with children, term time only then it’s great. And they certainly are not the worst catering company out there. At least during Covid19 we all kept our jobs more than can be said for lots companies out there

Pros

Good banter, free lunch, good hours, term time only

Cons

Fast paced, stressful

Do not work here

STAY AWAY FROM HERE! This is the worst place i have ever worked. Given no support or training at all from any management who seem to work when they want and pass the boring stuff to lower level staff. Treated extremely badly. I was new to the role and was given no training or help from my managers and was let sitting without having a clue what i was meant to do. When asking for guidance i was passed aside and ignored on numerous occasions. Was forced to go into the office during COVID in a very small crowded and cramped room even though home work was very possible and managers did it regularly. Unfair treatment and no help in training. Felt very isolated and had noone to turn to for help. Managers are rude and do what they want without thinking of the other staff. Do no support new people in any way at all. Cannot stress enough how bad this place is to work.

An underhand company

I wouldn’t recommend working for aspens at all. Thyroid are just money grabbing company amd will get away with not paying holiday entitlement wherever they can. This lockdown furlough scheme has proved this. Stay away from aspens

Double Standards

Senior Management have no idea of the real feelings about the team. All my fellow Mangers were are looking to leave as the pressure was so intense and no work life balance. Best thing about Aspens, is the relief when you leave.

Cons

Expected to work 70+ hours

High stress

Over worked and under paid. Never supported by manager. Bullied at work and still not supported. No sufficient training. A lot of extra administration work to do at home.

Everyone is nice

Aspens is my third contract caterers I've worked for and they are without doubt the nicest people with great food, great opportunities to grow and a really good support network. AND an ops manager who answers the phone - never had that before! As with all contract caterers they focus on figures, so everybody from the bottom to the top is under pressure to meet targets, but that's business!

A series of unfortunate events

A company that pride themselves on providing fantastic opportunities for their employees.. a company that honours good teamwork, a company that listens, a company that uses excellent communication skills in order to care for their employees needs. A company that takes responsibility for their mistakes, a company that respects their employees. A company that does this.... is not Aspens. It’s unfortunate that they do not provide their employees with these vital needs. It’s sad to see so many people who feel let down by Aspens. I can only be honest in what I have witnessed with this company and can only hope that others have a better experience in the future, of course thats down to aspens to change.

Pros

Term time, strong team

Cons

Lack of communication, ignorance from higher managment, passing the blame, bullying

Tuped over after take over !

Work in a school kitchen that has been taken over by aspens ! Time to look for another job , the company doesn’t care about its employees and cares even less about its customers. They bully you and threaten you to get there own way , never see anyone from higher up so have no one to air your grievances with. Feel so let down and deflated doing the job I once loved .

Decent but not the best

Aspens is ok, messed my wages a few times and management is a bit rough. Definitely could be better. Been working with them a while and came across a lot of issues and misunderstandings.
