I work on a contract called the humber contract it's the worst thing ever no roter to work on no bonus scheme anymore you only get 2 guaranteed days off a month never know when your working until the day before between 14.30 and 1900 the job isnt bad but could be better and management haven't got a clue especially on the container terminal in hull

Stressful

No work life balance, have to wait for a text every day to tell what shift you're on the following day, can sometimes end up doing a full week of nights, new terminal layout is tighter and unsafe, if you get something wrong the older dockers will be moaning about you all shift (not allowed to make a mistake and learn from it Anymore) ABP stands for All Bull**** Promises or All 'Bout Production or All 'Bout Profit noawdays, they don't care about their employees

Pros

Decent salary when you get trained up on kit. Can sometimes work with a decent gang

Cons

long hours, no work life balance

Full of lies

Humber contact what an absolute joke. Promote work life balance. Then when you sign. Not aloud to plan anything on days off incase they need you in. Work 7 nights one day off then put you back on shift on days for another amount of shifts. one weekend off a month. Lied about training and pay increases. Don't know where you are as you get told next week shifts every Thursday

Pros

Decent colleges. decent breaks. Pool table

Cons

Where do I start!! Breathing in biomass dust causes cancer

Big company, big expectations but can’t live up to them

No set shift pattern, only two days of a month are guaranteed off other than that your stuck. Great shame as I have older generation dockers in the family who swore these where the best jobs in the city, sadly no longer.

Poor performance and management is struggling

Their reputation does not rise up to the reality. Understaffing, poor out dated cargo management software that crashes often, complicated and lenghty recruitment and purchasing processes, all lead to poor work place quality and no job satisfaction. Poor work/personal life balance. You never know when you are going to be back to work and when you are going to be free.

Pros

Good benefits, optional private pension, private healthcare at reduced rates

Cons

Long 12 hours shift, no fixed shift pattern, you never know when you will be free or at work, no pay for night workers, lots of nights and weekends worked

Interesting job but management are clueless and don't care about its staff.

As above says, along with a good set of lads and decent salary. Although half the workers basically work days whereas others work days, nights and every other weekend for the same pay. The shift pattern is a complete joke and don't know what you're working until the day before which gives you no home life, but management don't care whatsoever. Management have not got a clue and haven't got any previous dock experience so don't know how the jobs works. I'd happily take an pay cut for the right job to leave ABP

Pros

Half decent pay, good set of lads, pension is good and health care

Cons

Long hours, no home life, idiots for managers.
