Port review.

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Poor salary for area. Split shifts including working most weekends. Could do with more investment in the port. Such as old 80s terminal building for paying passengers to sit in. A old gangway to board passengers its abit embarrassing using this kit.

Pros

A permanent job

Cons

Split shifts weekend working late shifts

Just dull as dishwater

Boring Not sure how a room of 100 employees can share an open plan office and you hear a pin drop but that's the case here... no one talks. No one has a personality.

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours and low pay

Pack Mentality / Toxic Management

With poor leadership come despondent workers which is clearly very visible on the Humber. Gang style / pack mentality at senior level. Mangers with "take care of Number 1" regardless of the consequences to hardworking, honest lower level enployees and being ruled by unethical leaders on the surface, being acceptable across all departments. A very toxic office environment. Recommend anyone with morals and a desire to work without having to keep one eye on dishonest managers and protecting yourself to avoid this company.

Pros

Good pay and benefits

Cons

Poor leadership, pack mentality

Stressful

No work life balance, have to wait for a text every day to tell what shift you're on the following day, can sometimes end up doing a full week of nights, new terminal layout is tighter and unsafe, if you get something wrong the older dockers will be moaning about you all shift (not allowed to make a mistake and learn from it Anymore) ABP stands for All Bull**** Promises or All 'Bout Production or All 'Bout Profit noawdays, they don't care about their employees

Pros

Decent salary when you get trained up on kit. Can sometimes work with a decent gang

Cons

long hours, no work life balance

Worst job I’ve had

20 planners and still couldn’t plan a days work. Management disconnected from workers. Job is fine, if you are happy to do the same thing week. I hoped this would be my forever job but was so disappointed.

Pros

Pay, benefits, good team

Cons

Management, repetitive, management, management, management

Poor performance and management is struggling

Their reputation does not rise up to the reality. Understaffing, poor out dated cargo management software that crashes often, complicated and lenghty recruitment and purchasing processes, all lead to poor work place quality and no job satisfaction. Poor work/personal life balance. You never know when you are going to be back to work and when you are going to be free.

Pros

Good benefits, optional private pension, private healthcare at reduced rates

Cons

Long 12 hours shift, no fixed shift pattern, you never know when you will be free or at work, no pay for night workers, lots of nights and weekends worked

Stevedore, driver/lasher

Management are clueless with no idea what goes on. Pay is terrible for the hours you do with no social life, nothing extra for unsociable hours either. When there is an accident you where involved in but didn't cause they will make it seem as its more your fault then the other party involved. There way of health and safety is giving you toolbox talks to sign, there is nearly one weekly and having to read SSOW every 6 months now as a way of covering themselves in case of an accident and will use it against you if needed which there are 30-40 SSOW and each one has average of 20-30 bulletins in each one, some even have 60-80 bulletins and are expected to remember them all. No pay rises other then yearly inflation rates. Do get yearly bonus which you can never get full amount due to unrealistic targets set every year. No progression anywhere people been there 15 years+ on same money as someone who just passes probation after 6 months. More skills you have the more screwed over you are due to less skilled people getting easy jobs day after day so it pays to be useless in this job pretty much. annualised hours don't get reset so i don't understand how its called annualised hours? never get into plus hours and when you can get plus hours you can sell them back for basic pay when it should be overtime pay as its over your contracted hours. Never expect the company to have your back will bend over backwards for customers but wont do anything for employees. The guys on the ground most of them are really good guys and have a great laugh together and the -

Pros

good people on the ground, job is enjoyable at times.

Cons

More then pros i leave it as that

Not this best place to work

Average pay for the hours you have to put in, good amount of breaks and colleagues all good to work with. Poor management at times that lack leadership skills

Good company benefits

ABP is a good company to work for in respect of its employer benefits. ABP have a very good safety culture and the training provided for each individual is good.

Good salary and benefits

The salary and benefits are excellent, but for such a large office I was surprised that there is nowhere to go for lunch except to eat at your desk. There is a Cooplands van which turns up just before lunch time, so it's possible to buy food if you forget your packed lunch, but then there's nowhere to go to eat your nice Cooplands food except at your desk. People will then expect you to continue answering their queries while you're eating your lunch so you never feel like you've had a break.

Pros

Excellent salary and benefits

Cons

A lack of facilites

unloyal no security do not trust

There is no appreciation of anything you do. appalling management totally disconnected from the actual work and workforce, good team spirit from actual workers but management are totally disjointed. very unsociable hours and they can be changed on a managers whim.

Pros

salary holiday varied work training offered

Cons

poor management, no overtime rate, no appreciation of staff or efforts made.

Interesting job but management are clueless and don't care about its staff.

As above says, along with a good set of lads and decent salary. Although half the workers basically work days whereas others work days, nights and every other weekend for the same pay. The shift pattern is a complete joke and don't know what you're working until the day before which gives you no home life, but management don't care whatsoever. Management have not got a clue and haven't got any previous dock experience so don't know how the jobs works. I'd happily take an pay cut for the right job to leave ABP

Pros

Half decent pay, good set of lads, pension is good and health care

Cons

Long hours, no home life, idiots for managers.

Low salaries and not great career perspectives.

The company is ok but the salaries are extremely low when you can find similar positions with the same level of expertise MUCH better paid. Management does not care about that. Companies can only be at the top of their game if they have top employees and for that you have to pay them. Career progression is very slow and based on how many years have you been in a specific position rather them how do you perform. Mobility within company regarding different positions is not encouraged. Managers that have no idea what being a manager is. Investing in training is also not a priority for the company nor deliver a decent on boarding to people that have joined. I think is a nice place to work for one year or so until you find something better.

Pros

Nice people

Cons

Very low salary

Interesting plant and machinery

Under-staffed for engineering/maintenance. Compex training for COMAH site. Management not in tune with engineers. Co-workers most are solid workers. Permit duties are not given the focus they deserve. Resolving breakdowns is good.

Pros

health care, pension

Cons

long hours, extra days for no extra pay
