I have worked for better companies with higher pay and better values

Indeed featured review

What is the best part of working at the company?Local to home and easy travel options What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Unpaid break and work load too much Feel under valued at times and pay is low What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Its average I guess Avery feel they pay a good wage but in reality it’s poor for a large company. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Good I guess Just get on with the work can only do what you can and the rest gets left for another shift

Abysmal

This company does not care and should not be running care homes! Management have clicks. There is no opportunities for growth or decent pay. There is not enough staff on shifts so dangerous conditions are set up ready for you to take the fall.

Pros

Hastee pay

Cons

Overworked and never enough staff so extra work for everyone!

Friendly, caring, helpful management and higher

I started at a care assistant at highcliffe care home. I have worked my way up the ladder and have gained experience and knowledge. I have recently been made acting deputy manager. The manager has supported me in my new role and guided me to the best of my ability and is always there to help when needed. The care staff are friendly and caring to all that live and visit the home.

Pros

Experience, support

Awful

They employ people to fill gaps! You don’t really get any proper training, 5 days in the training room 3 shadow shifts and that’s it! Some of the team are absolutely amazing, but others are shocking. Management and office staff don’t actually care about you or the residents it’s all about the money! They sell you a lie!!!

Pros

None

Cons

Awful

Avery took over the care home I work in and it’s awful, we offered luxury care and they’ve cut our budget so much it’s below average at best. They can’t pay us our correct wages and mess you about when you try and correct it and when they finally pay it’s still short of what you owed, cut free staff meals. Wont train staff in how to deal with resident who have dementia and get violent so constantly battered and bruised as you just have to accept the beating as they won’t do anything to help this. The management and team who run our home are great but the management of the new company is shocking.

Poor Place To Work

Management do not answer there phones, I was stressed the company are more interested in bringing in the money. I would not recommend anyone to work here. Not must time to care for the residents as it is always short staffed. Very poorly managed.

Receptionist

I have worked as a receptionist for many years. Working as receptionist for care home is so diffident. There are days where have full of laughter and sadness. The residents are brilliant, the stories they have to tell are amazing. Working for Avery healthcare, is brilliant. The management at our home will join in and make teas and coffees etc. they help with clearing the cafe areas etc. answer the phone if you help a resident. They sit on the reception. When w have visitors from the Avery care team, they just like us, down to earth. I have to say l enjoy the receptionist position. There is never a dull moment. I am very lucky as l have full support from my line manager and out Business admin manager. All my other colleagues. I feel l was made for this type of job.

Management

During my time at bourn view if you wasn’t a family member or close friend of the management team you wouldn’t be able to progress, the management gave a senior position to a 17 year old due to the face she was related to the management team. On the night there was only 1 senior to 80+ residents and only 4 carers to 80+ residents management would refuse to help when being this short staffed. Day staff will give 8pm medication at 6pm and sometimes will give 10pm medication at 6pm

Pros

Carers are amazing

Cons

Hard work under valued and unappreciated

Would never work for this company again they do not follow their values one family, everyone is in it for themselves , work load is very unrealistic and cannot be achieved, lots of pressure to get job done and it’s affected my marriage and mental health and physical health. Toxic workplace

Pros

None really

Cons

Can’t achieve work load

High quality care and nursing delivered

The contract doesn’t offer much, just basic annual leave, not all Bank Holidays are paid. Overall it is a nice place to work in with overtime options. The quality of care is very high and the care team efficient but they are not paid fairly unfortunately.

Pros

Free drinks, biscuits, ice cream van once a week, Treat the staff Friday

Cons

Work load for 1 nurse too much
