Cons

Terrible

I worked there for a year and hated every moment of it. This workplace is like eastenders everyone is fighting for their rightful place. Constant backstabbing and bickering instead of getting work done which explains why there is such a high staff turnover

Underappreciated

Job can vary vastly depending on which manager is on shift. Long hours and hard work for what feels like little recognition from higher ups. Colleagues were great and location is beautiful.

Pros

Lovely colleagues & free meals on most shifts

Cons

irregular shifts, low wages

I’ve worked for away resorts for years

I have worked for this company for many years! I’ve seen many amazing people come and go but I’ve made many friends and memories during this time. This work is very physical as you’re constantly on your feet for 7+ hours with only a 30 min break. You will be given a zero hour contract with either early morning-day shifts or closing shifts. Yes, you will get discount from the lunch menu.. if you have time to order from it which is never. The park is very lively and the events are amazing and fun! It’s never a dull day. The park can become extremely busy and become very overwhelming. You will come across a lot of rude customers mainly due to staff not being given equipment to work with or poor treatment. You will be promised to be given a higher role if you’re experienced but I wouldn’t get your hopes up! I have seen staff break their backs for this company only for them to hire someone very inexperienced. You are only a number in this company and only a few decent management will look after you. One or two are absolutely lovely but I was treated very poorly before I finally decided to leave. I was very upset as someone who’s worked years of understaffed busy bank holidays and long closing hours, weekends and even holidays. I became very ill and they decided to end my contract without letting me know and I haven’t heard back from them since. It was like I wasn’t useful anymore! Harsh company and cut throat company. Not the for the faint hearted! Good luck.

Pros

Discount lunches, nice staff, pay not to bad, and events.

Cons

Seasonal contract, Long hours, short breaks, and angry customers

Low staff morale

Most team have a low morale. Bosses tell teams one thing from HQ & then tell the individual another. Job pressure is unbearable, systems & processes are poor. You find you are doing the job for at least 2 or 3 people. You are expected to cover absent team members sickness & holiday cover often without thanks & pay.

Worst managed place

Worst managed place from off and on park senior members. If you want to feel respected & feel like you are worth being part of the team then I definitely would not pick Mersea Island. Other parks are probably better but this park is definitely the runt of the litter

0 encouragment, and archaic culture.

Bulling. Favourotism. Lack of recognition. Locker deficated. No rotation on jobs or in orherwords if they dont like you they give you the dirty work. Lack of training- took them 5 mo ths to do my welcome training. Wouldnt even give them a single star if it wasnt compulsary in the majority of fields above.

Pros

Gained valuable experiance of what a terrible company looks like

Cons

Everything

It’s who you know, not what you can do

You need to be friends with everyone, it feels like a popularity contest. If your face don’t fit, you won’t get anywhere. You get shouted at by their higher managers, a top manager is a bald man that like to get mad and kick things. The cutler is lovers, reality is fear.

Great work culture and recognition of effort put in

Away resorts has a brilliant work culture that works hard to reward and recognise the team and the effort and commitment shown. Every one works for one another from the very top to bottom to make it a successful company.q

Pros

Proactive leadership. Supportive work environment. Rewarding. Great training schemes

Good place to work

Great staff, can be stressful and busy but that is what is expected on a holiday park. Every issue is sorted within 5 minutes of it being brought up to either management or just communicating with the other staff.

Great component to work for

Great benefits/ progression within the company. Really friendly staff, great discounts, there are some people in accommodation that shouldn’t be in the position.

Dreadful

Management are very bad, lack of communication. The team leaders are very poor, they are incredibly lazy and barely get anything done, management can see this and still do nothing. good luck in off peak times as they don’t spread hours out for all staff they just give the hours to other teams from other bars so unless you’ve saved all your money from the summer you’ll struggle financially. They also have a history of not paying staff properly so make sure you work out what you’re supposed to be paid, weather they’ll give you what you’re entitled to is another story.

Pros

other staff

Cons

Management, hours, pay.

not fun

Pros

Cons

long hours

Working alone when busy with customers shouting at you. Not included in anything. Coldness

Very hard work when busy, trying to deal with people with no guest passes, being threatened and shouted at. Working on own all through the busy periods due to lack of staff. No toilet or tea breaks unless you manage to get some help. Freezing once the weather changed, had to fight for weeks to get a portable heater. The most enjoyable part of my job was working with certain security guards and some of the dogs and children that came through the doors

Pros

Nothing

Cons

Long hrs alone. Zero contract, Cold not healthy, Frustrating when managers change their minds over something, No support, Having to deal with abuse.

It starts off with everybody smiling

But I have never worked in a place where everyone is ready to stab you in the back or drop you in it so quickly to save their own skin. The company ethos is make as much money as possible whilst offering the poorest service we can.I have never been so glad for a contract to end. I have never felt so undervalued by a management system which is, frankly, a joke. There is a manager for every little thing and it is hard to know who you're supposed to report to sometimes.Avoid working here at all costs!

Pros

Cheap lunches

Cons

Not appreciated by management

Hard work but fun

Very busy, good if you like to always be doing something. I liked the people I was working with, some customers are hard work though. Very relaxed culture, informal and casual. Really good opportunity for development if you show that you want a career and put the work in.

Pros

Good tips, staff menu, cheep holidays

Cons

Busy

Loved it!

It’s different working on a holiday park to most other places. Usual shifts are around 8 hours long 5 days a week but there are always more hours during the summer months if you ask. As it get quiet, the hours get lower, and you get a brilliant home/work balance, work hard during the summer and time off during the winter!I’ve never working in a place so flexible, they are good at altering shift patterns and working round childcare (and my husbands work). The managers are good, really helpful compared to most places I’ve worked and always on the floor. They only con is that there are lots of young staff that think they have been hard done by and moan they have to work more than 4 hours or that they can’t have tomorrow off because they want to get drunk and haven’t bothered to book it off.The best thing is that you can always ask to move about and try your hand at something else when you’ve worked their a while

Pros

Flexibility, really cheep food, discounts on holidays

Cons

Young staff
