Friendly colleagues, easy work, but...
Customer Advisor (Former Employee) - Lincoln, Lincolnshire - 24 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedEveryone that works there is generally quite friendly and willing to help. I used to work night shifts and management used to be quite flexible with shift hours, as I was a student. If I needed to change days or finish early, there were chances to start early and so on. The work is also fairly easy, as you will most likely be stacking shelves and assisting customers/working on the tills. However, some managers are not always understanding of your circumstances and will treat you unfairly. You will also be made to feel guilty if you're ill and on your return to work meeting, some managers will make you feel as though being ill is not an option and will threaten you with dismissal from the company (you get 3 illness strikes in a year).

incredibly toxic
Customer Advisor (Current Employee) - Farnborough, Hampshire - 24 September 2023
you can clearly tell the managers have their favourites. you make one mistake and they’ll hate you for the rest of the time you work there and they make the job harder for you. don’t work here, it’s toxic and honestly the amount of disrespect i received from the management and even some of the staff members is disgusting
Pros
none

Friendly work colleagues
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Keighley, West Yorkshire - 19 September 2023
Management need improving across all boards. Fun place to work. Enjoyed my time at B&Q but the pay is not good enough for the jobs you are made to do and tasks you undertake Management rely on service advisors to do their job as they are too lazy to do it themselves. The staff are under appreciated massively

Management wins
Delivery Driver (Current Employee) - Chester - 17 September 2023
If your face don’t fit say goodbye to your job. If you’re a yes man then your job is safe. Don’t point out the obvious the management don’t like it! Your opinion doesn’t matter! You are a number
Pros
Hour break
Cons
Management is awful

Great place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Current Employee) - Goole - 16 September 2023
The interview process has changed since I started work it's just 1-1 interview now. B&Q is a great place to work. Fast paced every day is different. Our store team is great, management team are supportive. Variety of shifts they are accommodating. The most enjoyable part of the job is the team comeraderie, building up relationships with customers and getting to know them. Lots of different things to learn, plenty of opportunities if you are want to progress.
Pros
Discount cards, Christmas vouchers

Job security is good
Team Leader (Current Employee) - North Shields, Tyne and Wear - 15 September 2023
If you fit in with the management team you’re fine if you don’t then you won’t be. Too much favouritism, poor senior management behaviour towards staff

Depends which store you work at
Customer Advisor (Former Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 14 September 2023
Not the worst company to work for but it really does depend on the people and the management. Either brilliant or terrible. Ended up resigning due to workplace discrimination which is a shame and doesn't look good on the company.

Not a bad place to work
Customer Advisor (Current Employee) - Slough, Berkshire - 13 September 2023
Working at B&Q is ok it has its moments being retail work but pay is good and you get an excellent amount of options to progress including training on forklifts and progressing to manager roles

Decent
Sales Advisor (Current Employee) - Plymouth, Devon - 12 September 2023
Staff are good, customers are 50/50 for being rude or nice. Pay is pretty much minimum wage, the progression is somewhat limited and depends a lot on timing.

Store to Home delivery driver
Customer Service Delivery Driver (Current Employee) - Gillingham - 12 September 2023
Store to Home delivery driver in this role, you will load your own van with no help or support trying to find missing items. damaged items, incomplete orders and no one cares about it you will late for your delivery is late and expected to work past your time with no overtime paid and I’ve told to take the time in lieu which is impossible as they are so short-staffed. Incredible amount of lazy people who stand around in the store behind the scenes doing nothing going on their mobiles and management site and do nothing about it. I don’t even know about his business is still in business. I if you like to deliver lots of heavy stuff i.e. 32 packs of laminate flooring up multiple flights of stairs to a customer in an achievable timeframe to more often than not not even get a thank you. This job is for you
Pros
If your face face you can get away with blue murder
Cons
The pay does not represent the work involved for a delivery driver

Retail job.
Showroom Advisor (Current Employee) - Gillingham, Kent - 9 September 2023
The company has great potential of growth but the issue is that its retail nevertheless. No one cares about you or your wellbeing as long as you keep customers happy. You’re just a number regardless if you bust you’re hard working or you dont put in the work at all. Your managers are only there to become unit managers so they rarely care about their team enough to step in for you. The place is constantly understaffed and hence why all the good people always leave.

Is what it is
Retail Assistant (Former Employee) - Worthing - 6 September 2023
Staff were fun to work with. Management constantly on your case. Customers were mostly ok but you get the odd few moaning. Not much product training.
Pros
Friendly staff
Cons
Poor management

Generally an ok place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Hinckley, Leicestershire - 4 September 2023
You will find that the staff generally have worked there for years so as a new face it can be hard to find your place. The teams are very close and often socialize outside of work so if you are unable to join in this can create some distance. It is hard to progress regardless of the experience you gain if you don't drive as this is a requirement of the management training course.

Unbalanced
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Castleford, West Yorkshire - 3 September 2023
Working at this store if your face fits you have a good experience if not... Your on your own. It's a very cliquey environment. The managers, some work exceptionally hard some let everyone else do the work and then take the credit for it. The hours are retail so not great the customers demand expertise that your not qualified to provide and more and more tasks are being pushed on to less and less people.
Pros
Staff discount, the people
Cons
Lack of recognition/reward. Poor Management Bad Hours / work life balance poor pay

There is a variety of tasks you can get train on, switch around when you multiskilled to mix up your days with some walking tasks. overall atmosphere is good, we have a good team with good team leaders on shift.
Pros
good atmosphere
