Balanced payment / workload

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Good place to work, depending on who you are and where you from. Often, people who are liked by managers get rewarded and offered better tasks and future opportunities, not based on actual work quality and achievements of the individual. Diversity is encouraged on posters around dockyard, but not in reality.

Nepotism

Good working environment, sadly all staff have connections with other staff - partners, sisters, mothers, fathers and friends. The result is hierarchy and toxicity.

Babcock Technical Training position

As a contractor I was supported from day one. A typical day would be preparing the documentation and paperwork materials to conduct training and provide next steps certifications for session attendees, inputting the relevant data into databases. The culture was fun yet structured. The biggest challenge was not having experiential knowledge of the the roles I was training and facilitating on

Pros

Free lunches

Cons

A lot of security related bureaucracy which is understandable given the MOD relationship

Fun

A job description summarizes the essential responsibilities, activities, qualifications and skills for a role. Also known as a JD, this document describes the type of work performed. A job description should include important company details — company mission, culture and any benefits it provides to employees.

Good company, good place to work, varied tasking on a rotating shift pattern, salary ok , work/ home life balance good. Would recommend this company .

Great collaboration and prestigious projects

Good exposure to substantial engineering projects and great opportunity for stakeholder engagement. Noticed can have a bit of an old-fashioned culture. Hard to progress due to a not being in the “right” clique but all probably more location than the company its self.Great for building resolve and experience with big character and pressured/deadline situations.Great with charity work and employee support, good reward scheme, pension contribution fair in comparison to industry. Set up for really good development but depends on management input.

Great company. Only real complaint is parking

Only job I've had where I felt genuinely cared about and supported by my management. Pay is totally fair for hours worked. Parking is terrible, my space was 2 miles away from my office, I now cycle to work.

Pros

Flexible working hours

Cons

Parking

Interesting Place to work in, very hands on work. Poor salaries, no progression

Good people and interesting work. Flexible working and great projects. But unfortunately Babcock doesn't appreciate their best employees. Underpaid and below average for salaries. No real progression as advertised. Lengthy process for promotions if ever happen.

Mediocre

very hard to get a payrise, very poor senior management, very old school company and processes good training arrangements, interesting work, good people

Interesting work - poor leadership and management

Set in their ways with an old fashioned work culture. Poor processes that don’t reflect what takes place, it’s a free for all of what gets done causing problems for support functions. Getting things done relies on knowing WHO does what and osmosis over time. No strategy to deliver and no strategy to improve.

Cons

As above. Difficult to park on-site nowadays being forced to use public transport.

Busy enjoyable

It fitted well with my circumstances and I loved the place. Friendly staff. Training regularly supplied. Company support brilliant. All equipment supplied. As cleaners we were looked after in the FM team. Nothing was too much and we were valued by sll staff. Staff were courteous and respectful.

Pros

Busy and varied

Cons

Long hours at times

Not enough experience within management

Poor management with lots of people promoted into positions where they have little or no knowledge or experience. Just a poor experience and won't return.

Unsupportive management

Workload was often too much and unmanageable. The management are unsupportive and the company does not support neurodivergent individuals. I would not recommend working for this company.

Career Progression

Great place to work. Supportive management and career development if you wish. Safety taken seriously and good working conditions. Good pay and fair allowances

Micromanagement

Lots of work for very little money. Things changed and priorities were not the learners. Micromanagement and excessive paperwork made the job not enjoyable

New Starter

New starter, but the overall experience has been good. Equipment which was provided is of high quality, much better than that provided at my previous employee and sent a week before starting to allow time to setup.

Pros

Good Pay

Not a good place to work

Management are all over each other, lock themselves in their office in the dark & are so sly, constantly talking about staffs sickness to other staff.

Pros

You do absolutely nothing through the day

Cons

Management lie to everyone and having affairs

Rewarding place to work

A rewarding place to work and one that values it’s people. The business is making big steps to improve and it’s making a huge difference.

Fun and rewarding

Really enjoyed working at Babcock. The teams are lovely albeit some are more KPI driven than others which does have an element of stress. It does really depend on your manager that has massively contributed to actually enjoy work! Would be open to going back to Babcock in the future

Uninspiring workload

The pay, pension, annual leave allowance and other conditions are good. The management and day to day workload are poor. The wrong people are recognised and rewarded with little chance of progression for good staff.
