A business with an aspirational future

Featured review

Balfour Beatty selected this as a representative review
Great values and behaviours to make the company attractive for the future not just for employees but for clients to collaborate with. Leaders need to be visible to grassroots workers

Clicky

Clicky depot at bottesford. Wouldn't recommend to someone who was going to work in that department. Go to the derby office instead if it is possible to.

Ok

Not bad the working hours are better than some contractors. I would like to see better support for younger staff, the older ones just sit and do nothing whilst others do work.

Feels like school

The work itself was fine but was little to no training and people acted as if they were still in school. Bullied by higher up and pushed out so did not feel comfortable going into work. Some great people there that are still in contact but overall not great

Good company

The pay is good for a graduate. Everyone I've worked with were very welcoming and helpful. Everyone had time for me. Good training for graduates and varied projects for experience.

Good firm

Was based on the overhead project in Bristol The planning was always poor Overtime was forced upon you Pay rates was great and on-time Great staff-(gangs) but poor planners unrealistic schedules pouring concrete 1800 most days zero thanks or anything. Was a secure job but working 0630-1900 almost 4 days of the week then Saturday 0630-1500 then Sunday 0630-1700 you have zero social life but pay was 1900 per week but not worth it if want to give up weekend work you then get a disciplinary even though is meant be optional I’ll happily work again for these but not this project as it’s not we’ll ran Had great progress within 5 months loads of tickets I stayed here for 2 years till went to a small family firm

Pros

Cons

Dangerous Health and Safety Culture

As a safety professional, I felt very uncomfortable working for this company. The lack of safety on the job site was worrying and was often overlooked by the senior project team. This was due to the use of cheap, under skilled subcontractors that came in under budget.

Pros

Some nice people

Cons

Their approch to safety on the work site

Boring job

Constantly getting looked at over your shoulder by managers who don't know the job, stop watches to see how long you take doing the job, manager more interested if you've got your glasses, gloves and overalls on than just letting you get on with the work

Pros

Modern factory, early finish on Friday

Cons

No heating in the winter, poor management

Lovely Team and Good Environment

Really good team and nice place to work. Everyone was friendly and I enjoyed the role while I was there. Salary was also good. Flexitime was available too.

Poor Management

Terrible place to work. Management can’t make consistent decisions. Kept moving the goalposts and took credit for my hard work. No working system in place and stock inventory was non existent. No responsibility taken for any mistakes, always looking to place the blame elsewhere. Avoid

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, poor pay, no guidance, very disorganised

Shocking. Terrible work/life balance

Hours have been put up to 11hr per day, 10 days in a row. =55hours p/w with no extra pay. Instructed after hours by email to start rota following day!HR department not interested about staff mental health or work life balance.

Great Place

I was based at Wolverhampton Depot. Easy access, great staff. Monday meetings then on site rest of the week at various places. Paperwork is a lot but it's easily manageable and the staff are great to work with.

Pros

Good benefits, pension, holidays, etc

Cons

Long hours
