Very positive start
Support function (Current Employee) - Head Office - 12 September 2019
Featured review
Balhousie Care Group selected this as a representative reviewI recently commenced employment at BCG and have found the whole process to be positive. The organisation is willing to invest in its facilities and more importantly, it's people, as I have already been approved for a course to enhance my core knowledge. There is a very supportive culture within Head Office, and the message is clear that we are here to offer support to each of the individual homes where the care of our residents is a priority.

Enjoyable and challenging
Brand and Communications Executive (Former Employee) - Perth, Perth and Kinross - 20 September 2023
I thoroughly enjoyed working at Balhousie, in particular travelling to the different homes, meeting the residents and the hard working team. I built a great relationship with my line manager who was always on hand to provide support. The decision to leave was extremely difficult - I only did so because I was offered a dream role. I’d highly recommend a career at Balhousie - a great place to work!

This is based on one care home not as a whole
Senior Care Assistant (Current Employee) - Angus - 27 August 2023
As most care homes, pressures of the social care make it difficult to spend leisurely time with service users. By time you have finished morning rounds it’s time to start afternoon rounds. I have learnt how to juggle job roles. Management are good and approachable but, I feel due to pressure from head office they have to concentrate more on paper work in office than their staff and residents. The workplace culture is what YOU make of it. If you go in positive it reflects on everyone. The hardest part of job is not having a proper working environment and having to constantly chase for things to be fixed. The most enjoyable part is when you have a bond with staff and residents that you see genuine happiness in the workplace.
Pros
Free meals for staff
Cons
Confidentiality isn’t high on workplace list

Bad place to work
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Dundee - 16 August 2023
Always run short staff refused to get agency in, management were a joke and didn’t care about the staff would not recommend working for this company! Hardest part of the job is working short and not getting paid enough for what we do and the work overload. Didn’t treat the residents good either.
Pros
None
Cons
Not good pay, short staff

Senior Support Worker (Current Employee) - Kinross - 28 July 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The residents is the best part. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Not enough staff and always given more tasks that aren’t realistic in the time frame given What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It’s terrible, long hours and barely get a break What is a typical day like for you at the company? It’s a busy shift, lack of staff and agency staff means little breaks if any

Poor management and salary is what let’s Balhousie down.
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Tayside - 22 July 2023
Too many incompetent chiefs with lack of understanding how things actually work on the ground level. Staff in the homes are extremely hard working, underpaid, overworked, understaffed and extremely overlooked for this.

Not the best
Care Assistant (Former Employee) - Tarland, Aberdeenshire - 4 July 2023
Not the best place to work at all, support given if your face fits and a lot of things staged to look good it’s all about appearances and not about actual care . Management ignore any real issues and play the blame game but don’t acknowledge their own failings.

No training given
Administrator (Former Employee) - Rumblingbridge, Perth and Kinross - 2 July 2023
There was no real training for the post and if you sought advice from head office I think they thought that was below them. One lovely lady who provided much needed support but only perhaps once a week and another employee from a different home in the group who wasn't too keen at all to give any insight, it was more of a "do this and that" instruction but when questioned why and what for (to gain overall understanding) it never was explained. The staff in the home were friendly but they were part of a team. Admin was very isolated and not in that team working but they all made one fell welcome. Management - not so much. Deputy manager was lovely and tbf the manager was ok some of the time but had no man management soft skills in my opinion.

Great place to work
Activities Co-ordinator (Current Employee) - Kinross - 30 June 2023
Rumbling Bridge care home is a really great place to work, a team that works together and no question is ever too much hassle, there’s always someone to lend a hand if need be. Some days are harder than others due to working in a home with a specialise Huntingtons Disease Unit but there are Great training opportunities to support with this and to help in your role too. The staffing has improved greatly in my time here having less and less agency staff and building up a great staffing team of our own. Management are always approachable and friendly. If you’ve never worked in care before it’s a great place to start as it’s a very welcoming home.

Support worker
Support Worker (Current Employee) - Coupar Angus, Perth and Kinross - 25 April 2023
Rewarding job in terms of what you personally get back from being a career. Balhousie pay different rates across different homes. In order to make a lovable wage you do need to work 5 days a week however they have introduced a higher rate of pay for any overtime of contracted hours. Overall conditions are good.

What is the best part of working at the company? The residents and most staff not management or head office What is the most stressful part about working at the company? What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Very poor just pretending to to care What is a typical day like for you at the company? Stressful, stressful, stressful did I mention stressful

100% recommend, great home
Support Worker (Current Employee) - Rumblingbridge, Perth and Kinross - 23 March 2023
Where to start, I have been working in my role at Rumbling Bridge for around 6 months now, I have managed to complete all of my mandatory training plus 8 additional training courses. What a team, the care staff are really nice and welcoming, the seniors support on the floor all the time and the manager and deputy manager are so supporting helping with everything from a chat to physical personal care with the residents, I have no cons for this home at all and glad I took the job there.
Pros
Relaxed, supportive and training
Cons
None

Amazing workplace
Team Member (Current Employee) - Rumblingbridge, Perth and Kinross - 21 March 2023
Everyday is a new day, some days can be challenging and others can be a breeze though that’s the nature of care. At Rumbling Bridge staff are valued and treated very well. I would encourage anyone starting out in care or anyone wanting to enhance their knowledge to join the team at Rumbling Bridge. There are two very different units within the home and plenty of support from not only management but also your peers. There is always some form of training on offer and if tasks are not completed on the day there is always tomorrow. The home is going places and I am grateful to be part of that journey.
Pros
Support, fun and being valued
Cons
Poor MDT support sometimes.
