Low pay, awful shift patterns
Member care (Current Employee) - Hastings, East Sussex - 20 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPay is national wage and shifts are all over the place, lots of sickness and staff turnover. Staff members are generally happy and great to work with. The building needs a big update.

Insights into Bannatyne
Areas for improvement
- Fair pay for job
- Sense of belonging
- Support from manager
Stressful, Under-looked and underpaid
Front of house assistant (Former Employee) - Leicestershire - 7 November 2023
Where do I start? There is a lot of favouritism in the workplace. The newer employees seem to get overlooked a lot. It doesn’t matter how hard you work because it’ll always be the same people getting employee of the month. You are underpaid but expected to do multiple jobs that aren’t even your own. You’ll be “asked” to cover shifts due to being understaffed but it doesn’t really feel like you can say no even if you are feeling incapable/not available to do the shift. Nothing changes in the club - things are constantly breaking, under maintenance etc so it’s just embarrassing having to explain it every other week to the members. I also didn’t have a very nice welcoming to the club either. The only pro is I have made some good friends here and some of the members are lovely but that’s about it. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it.
Pros
Clocking out
Cons
Clocking in

Spa
Spa Therapist (Former Employee) - Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh - 5 November 2023
It’s okay for a first spa therapist job. However no training is really provided you have to just know what to do. Very short on staff. Customers complain about the facilities and spa often . Too many clients a day with no breaks you go from a 1 hour massage right to another. Tiring and draining. The energy of staff just drags you down. They don’t care about staff health
Pros
Free use of facilities
Cons
Staff and practically no breaks

Lazy culture
Front of House Staff (Current Employee) - Scotland - 22 October 2023
I was really surprised to be surrounded by lazy, unmotivated and gossipy middle aged women with no interest in their own fitness or the health / fitness industry in general. I think the culture is reflected from head office who generally do not seem to care about anything as long as the department is making the minimum profit available

Manager terrible
Beauty Therapist (Former Employee) - Carlisle, Cumbria - 18 October 2023
If I could give management 0 stars I would, lee treats staff very poor and there’s nothing but arguments between the staff you would think they were in a playground, if your face doesn’t fit they just terminate your contract immediately , back to back massages, they don’t listen to the staffs views, all in all terrible place to work don’t do it
Pros
Non
Cons
Manager doesn’t listen to his staff

Too much pressure on both junior staffs and senior staffs
Assistant Spa Manager (Former Employee) - Chafford Hundred, Essex - 13 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Worked with some friendly staffs and met some kind clients What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The entire structure system of management. There’s too much pressure on staffs. Staffs are not looked after. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Client care is not the best when it comes to hygiene. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Every day is stressful to work there

Mixed - Members think they own you and not always supportive management
Reception (Former Employee) - Dumfries, Dumfries and Galloway - 12 October 2023
Nice enough club - members think they own you and can know everything about you Most staff are alright, though there is definitely a favouritism as some staff get away with murder Pay is basic and can tell by quality of staff and how long they stay

Dysfunctional
Membercare Assistant (Current Employee) - Leicester - 9 October 2023
Wouldnt recommend working here for minimum wage. You're expected to do others jobs as well as your own. Lazy staff and poor management. Lazy staff get away with all sorts, no discipline in place. Too many cliquey people and favoritism here. The place is falling apart literally the whole building needs a complete makeover but it's all about money and cut backs.
Cons
Long hours, stressful

Good people & free coffee
Finance Administrator (Former Employee) - Darlington - 23 September 2023
Access to free Starbucks coffee/hot chocolate. Well treated by middle/lower management. There's a bit of culture of this team Vs that team which benefits no one, but it's not that bad. Most people are friendly and easy to work with. The company intentionally hires apprentices for almost every role or skills gap so that when they qualify, they pay minimum wage with little opportunity to move from that position.
Pros
Free Coffee
Cons
Little progression opportunities

Jobs at Bannatyne
Therapeutic
Spa therapist (Former Employee) - Princess Alice drive Sutton - 19 September 2023
Management is horrible, they do not care about you. Everybody in the place is two faces . Manger and senior therapist block out collums to go sit in the office to do “emails” lol. You will do massage all day long and be expected to be a cleaner. When you’re on probation they will expend it for the littlest of things, then after that extension make you work a whole day and let you go, while saying your not Bannatyne standards . Not just that they send you a letter to say you’re banned from working or going to bannatyne for 12 months. Rubbish place to work better of working in maccies
Pros
None
Cons
Vile

Lots of improvements needed.
Fitness Instructor (Current Employee) - Leicester, Leicestershire - 16 September 2023
Always short staffed. Which makes the job harder than it should be and there is not enough job advertising, or any at all. The job gets even more difficult when just one staff member takes a day off (not the staff’s member’s fault obviously) and the fact that you get paid every 10th of the month it’s stupid to me, especially for those who work part time. Most companies either pay every weekend, every 2 weeks, or every 1st month of next month. Why is it only Bannatyne that pays every 10th of the month? Management is quite iffy, no wonder why a lot of people are leaving. But other than that, staff members here are decent people.

Interesting
Spa Therapist (Current Employee) - Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk - 11 September 2023
Good workplace to work for, pay is better than most spas, team work well together and you get free soup on shift. However the workload is heavy and not for the faint hearted, sometimes communication can be lacking.

Bannatyne Luton
Receptionist (Former Employee) - Luton - 23 August 2023
When I first started it was fine but management are very quick to stab you in the back and lie to you and HR about things they have said. You have to stand all the time your not allowed to sit down regardless of back issues. Some team members are really nice but in general it’s a toxic place please avoid.
Pros
Free gym membership, discounted spa treatments
Cons
Disrespectful managers, standing for 8hrs straight

Many ups and downs
Cafe Bar Assistant (Former Employee) - Leeds, West Yorkshire - 8 August 2023
Mostly a nice relaxing job. Company care too much about money though. Willing to have the bare minimum staff to run the place, to safe money. Good benefits, amazing teams. Just a shame that they’d rather run their staff to the ground than splash out on a few extra staff members.

A great fast paced workplace. Each day is different which makes it interesting. Good work life balance. Hard work is rewarded. Lots of internal progression, including new job roles but also obtaining new qualifications etc.
