Hard work but decent way to get foot in door
Business Banker (Former Employee) - Liverpool - 20 September 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWorked here for around 2 years, found the job to be quite mundane after this time. Management are very critical in call listening but seem to spend a lot more time chatting in the office whilst staff below them are answering calls non-stop all day

Not good
KYC Analyst (Former Employee) - Glasgow, Glasgow - 28 September 2023
High levels of favouritism If your face doesn't fit then not the place for you Progression is heavily dependant on who you know rather than your skills

Great company to work for
Everyday Customer Care (Current Employee) - Glasgow campus - 25 September 2023
There is a wide variety in what customers need help with, which gives an individual the possibly to learn new skills. The Management is fantastic and incredibly supportive. Barclays as a company focus a lot on the mental health and wellbeing of every staff member. I would highly recommend working for this company

If your face fits you will thrive if not you're in for a hard time.
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Northwich, Cheshire - 24 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? People who your work with,........ What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Team leaders not understanding, no wrap up time between calls, team leaders on your back to make calls, no extra training or communication feed back to people working party time. Clicky groups Team bullying If you have fits you excel in Barclays What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Results driven Depending on the team you work on. Some are more relaxed than others, sometimes you feel you can't go the toilet for being told off. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Log in Team meeting Work through calls / cases No lunch as i worked part time Targets need to be hit If not, over time affects your confidence to the point of people hating their jobs

Jobs at Barclays
Apparently not as bad as US banks but still pretty awful
Investment Banking Analyst (Current Employee) - Canary Wharf, Greater London - 11 September 2023
Consistently working til midnight, on the occasional day you do get away from work early you're expected to go straight home so you can respond to any sudden work. NOT a job for anyone who enjoys having a social life or time to go to the gym/ do anything besides work in the evenings. Great pay!

Toxic, you don't get any recognition of what you do. Managers are about themselves at any price. Avoid!
Programme Manager - GTIS - Global Technology Infrastructure (Former Employee) - Canary Wharf, Greater London - 8 September 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Toxic environment, stressful and not good for your health What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Back stabbers who are simply interested in progressing in the company rather than encouraging a positive, collaborative environment. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Toxic, competitive to the extent of encouraging employees to back stab and do whatever it takes to make others look bad. Clicky groups, selective suck up groups and so on. Steer clear the company is a dire place with a terrible morale and negative environment to work in. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Getting to the office early and get on with your job, when your manager swans in usually late, ignores you. Only when they require your support to resolve an issue. no gratitude or recognition for what you do. Then they disappear mid afternoon, no communication.

Don’t recommend
Sales Advisor (Current Employee) - Canary Wharf, Greater London - 7 September 2023
Don’t recommend not a friendly work environment, favouritism and promotions not earned on merit. It’s not what you know but who you know. Career progression unlikely

No care for staff well being
Banker (Current Employee) - Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne and Wear - 7 September 2023
Branch closures and redundancies, staff are just expected to get on with it, forced to take call centre calls although we are face to face customer service

OK place to work
Customer Service Advisor (Former Employee) - Northampton, Northamptonshire - 3 September 2023
It was a fairly repetitive job but my lovely colleagues made it enjoyable. Phones are very busy and it was often stressful to keep up with the admin side if the role

Toxic Micromanagement makes me dread work. Barclays hire anyone and everyone.
Customer Mortgage Expert (Current Employee) - Wavertree - 30 August 2023
When I first started this job I was looking forward to it, working for a bank, I believed I had solid job security. I work in mortgages. Upon my first day in training, it seemed that, as harsh as it sounds, Barclays will hire anyone. There are people who I completed the same training with asking simple questions and the same questions almost daily. It makes me resent going to work as I feel at times like I am surrounded by people who just should not be in the position they are, some of the colleagues are expected to help with customers mortgages yet answer the phone bluntly, hang up on you if you are transferring a call and can barely use the systems they need to. The micromanagement is suffocating. You get given your weekly call stats and if you dare drop below a certain band for more than a couple weeks then you get put on a plan which is “for your development” yet none of the internal jobs will touch you if you are on one? Having Team Leaders who you report to yet they completely avoid talking to you in office, only speak to you if you speak to them and make 0 effort in being a “Leader” is ridiculous. If you are on calls, your “Team Leader” will sit there actively monitoring what you are doing on one of their screens. I want to go to work and be treated like an adult, not like a child and not like a prisoner. I would avoid working here like the plague if you want to save your mental health from being battered and your mood from being ruined daily. The euphoria I feel when I log off every day knowing I am not at work is a feeling I cannot explain. I understand it’s nice -
Pros
Hybrid. Good laptop.
Cons
Micromanagement. Toxic. No community. No trust. Treated like children.

Great to have seen the inside of such a huge headquarters and its terrible design at least, but a stressing stale work culture.
Téléconseillere/Helpline Advisor (Former Employee) - Dorset - 28 August 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? A health food type of staff restaurant at the top of a big building where only Barclays staff were employed. View was lovely and the food varied and quality. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? I think the layout was a little stressful, with an open floor plan. The floors were nearly all similar and a tour of this building revealed an entire design boring and uninspiring and of course only in the companies colour scheme with lots of security. As headquarters of a main call centre, it was acceptable, and normal, but the setup did not really make mentally pleasant conditions for working. It did have a spacious indoor and outdoor shopping area nearby (the Poole Dolphin Shopping Centre) which made my time at Barclays agreable enough, I suppose. I think this place has now been shut or sold since! What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Not the best. Several members of the same families worked here, in senior management, everyone knew everyone, it felt a bit selective and stale. My trainer(s) were getting aggressive, as if that could improve my learning and relations with others. Intolerant of those who were not perceived as desirable and obedient customer service helpline people, like they were supposed to be, they did not like any individual style. I have had a few of these more repetitive jobs and was finding it hard to impersonate the unrealistic person they were expecting for the job, even if they were the employers and also had a job to do. They made me leave, but I could -

Great Benefits
Relationship Manager (Current Employee) - Remote - 25 August 2023
Benefits are great. Workload is fairly high and due to nature of the work you do not have much flexibility. Team and other colleagues are very supportive.
