Work-life balance

Foster Coordinator in London, Greater London
on 1 December 2019
Fun, respectful and flexible work place
I worked for a great team and my managers respected me. Every body who worked there had passion for their work and it was a lovely environment. I managed my own time and my day consisted of working with volunteers to get animals out on foster
Kennel Assistant in Windsor, Berkshire

Good job ruined by hideous team leaders
There is a bullying culture at the old Windsor branch the centre manager and team leaders are atrocious with their unfair treatment of some staff members. There needs to be a complete overhaul of management who ruin what is essentially a fun job. Shame on them and the higher powers for allowing this management style to continue for years

Parasitic Work Environment
I have worked for Battersea for over 4 years and quickly found out how cliquey it is. People from the offices treat kenneling staff as the lowest plebs, management across the whole site is grossly incompetent (with very few exception). The managers have low communication skills. They keep banging on about mental health, but there is little action taken to actually make sure that staff is ok. If someone has a breakdown they put them on 'performance review plan' instead of addressing the issues and changing their processes. Battersea don't stick to their values or policies. VERY little career progression unless you are brown nosing everyone and are within their close friend circle. Training opportunities only given to high paid staff. The very worthy employees that they have, they drive to mental health breakdowns and then let them go as there is a high turnover - they don't care about employees. None of the feedback from staff surveys are taken seriously. Employees also receive great verbal abuse from the customers, often containing threats - poor complaints system, and staff training within that area. The most important: the organisation too scared to stand up against Breed Specific Legislation in their popular social media. Shameful.Pay was fairly adequate but the jobs that people are doing were always way above to what their job description states.
Kennel intake in Brands Hatch

volunteer at Battersea
I volunteered at Battersea so cannot comment on salary issues. The best thing about working there was helping the animals and working with a kind, caring group of people who all pulled together.
Intake Kennel Volunteer Assistant in Battersea
on 13 July 2018
Great place to work
As a volunteer, they make me feel like part of the company and keep me motivated. They offer a series of workshops and training very valuable to me. The hardest part of the job is to see the abandon dogs suffer, but when I look at those dogs recover and being adopted by a lovely family, it is all worth it.
