Housing Officer in Poole, Dorset

Appalling company with antiquated IT
My role was Responsive Night Intensive Housing Officer on the newly set up Night Response Team. My training on night one was here are the keys to the office , get on with it.Management advice on dealing with incidents fluctuates like the weather , no consistency at all. There is little to no understanding from 9-5 managers regarding night work. You will be expected / forced to undertake training on sleep days / rest days because they won’t put a trainer on night shifts. There is no enhanced payment for working nights / unsociable hours despite when this is arguably their most busiest periods .IT systems are antiquated and extremely frustrating.

Utter circus act
Don't waste your time. Honestly. Just don't. High stressed job, complete lack of support and training, the most I was spoken to by management or HR was when I handed in my resignation. It has the potential and concept of being a fantastic and rewarding role but it is utterly let down by the training "structure". Often left lone working after a short period of time training - bullying like atmosphere in the houses. The customers were the only part of the job that was enjoyable - if they weren't I would have left after week one.

Very stressful
People are overworked, working culture which is unsupportive. Lack of organisational planning and training. Lack of positive feedback and encouragement, some bullying behaviour. Lack of training for new staff

Wonderful place to work!
I was working for the Employability and Skills and Customer Services department. I absolutely loved working for BCHA and had to leave due to relocating. I've worked in many roles, but BCHA's company culture was the best I've ever experienced - staff genuinely work together as a team - I felt fully supported by my team and my line manager. I felt incredibly rewarded and trusted, and received motivating recognition from staff, my line manager and the CEO. My line manager was accommodating and took a person-centred approach in all aspects of their work. There were challenges in some departments, such as short staffing, but there are challenges in every job - there were many positives that outweighed any negatives. I have never worked at a place like BCHA and really hope to find a company that is similar in the future.

No diversity on contracted/permanent staff
I was a relief worker at Bcha. The job is ok, very stressful but also rewarding. Inductions are difficult as staff are too busy to explain a new person what to do and it feels awkward. An interesting observation (shared with other colleagues), It would be nice to see some diversity among contracted/permanent staff, Foreign staff are normally Relief staff... so, "Job advancement"... mmmm... maybe for some, not for everyone, which is disappointing nowadays and after all the training about "diversity".
