Enjoyed my time

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
I enjoyed my time with the Bhandals, I was lucky enough to find a well run practice within the company, and was sad to leave. I think they have had some management issues in the past but believe they were changing/improving this as I was leaving.

Atrocious

Worked there for 5 years, managers are all unqualified/unexperienced just whichever nurse is floating around at the time is picked. Terrible company to work for. No respect for staff at all.

Best place to start your dental career

As a newly graduate dentist, I was very nervous to start my dental career. I didn’t have much experience and I was not aware how the system worked here. The principle dentist made sure we do not work on patients until we know the rules and regulations, writing the notes and how to deal with complaints. The principal supervises every procedure that we undergo. Alongside with the principal there is an array of dentist which include specialists and dentist with many years of experience. They are all available and happy to help you to shape your dental career.

Pros

Intensive learning

Cons

Fast paced

Great learning experience

I started 8 weeks ago at the Bhandal dental surgery. I did not have my NHS performer number. They helped me with every stage of the process. During this time, I have shadowed an Endodontic specialist, oral surgeon, prosthodontics specialist, an orthodontist and many other dentists with several years of experience. The principal dentist undergoes weekly tutorials, which are based on NHS rules and regulations, treatment planning, issues that dentist deal with on a regular basis and complaint handling. They provide us with several cases every week on different complaints, and we assess the case as a team and see where the dentist has gone wrong. I also worked under the supervision of them providing private treatment, for example during my first case of Root canal treatment I broke a file, I was in a lot of distress, the endodontist kindly removed the file within the same appointment without any extra charges. The whole team are very helpful and always available to provide valuable insight.

Pros

The support team around you

Cons

Long hours

Meh

I worked at a bhandal practice for 7 years. To start with i loved it. Loved the majority of the staff, and just everything about the job. When i qualified i started to notice how poorly nurses are actually treated... with the exception of the odd one who definitely got treated so much better than the rest, even when they don't do as much within the practice. I had to pay myself for post qualifications which i didn't mind but thought they would at least offer as it was a big help for the practice. After qualifying in these, i then had to beg for a pay rise. Constantly being shipped to different practices all over the place, some of which are horrible to work in and are filthy. God knows how they passed CQC inspections. Management are appauling!! No care for any nurses (apart from the odd ones), poor pay. They treat you very unfairly and have no concern for health and wellbeing, even with a doctors note they will still throw digs at you and make you feel even worse. I mainly worked with 2 dentists which i absolutely loved. They were so amazing and helpful and friendly. I am really sad that i have left purely because i know i will never find dentists as nice to work with as they are. Management discriminate against mental health conditions!!

Pros

Majority of staff amazingly friendly

Cons

Management, pay, treatment, support

If I could give 0 I would.

I worked for the Bhandals for a total of 4 years in and around most practices in Birmingham. I’ll start off by giving a little advice before I go into details, I wouldn’t waste your time working for these, you are a number to them and will never be treated fairly or with respect. Instead of working for the poor basically minimum wage pay rate you might as well go work self employed for an agency as you will be passed from pillar to post at every practice going without notice, choice or consideratjion and at least with agency the money is worth it. Management are what can only be described as a joke, a bunch of people who haven’t got a clue what they are doing, have no morals or respect with the way they treat staff and couldn’t care less about anyone but themselves. They all betray each other to save their own skins because they are so bad at their jobs and none of them communicate. In my time at Bhandals I witness management quite literally bully, manipulate, threaten, shout and scream at staff members. Any complaints you put forward won’t be taken seriously even with solid evidence. I don’t actually understand how the company is still running with the zoo animals who work behind the scenes. Most dentists and nurses across the practices are generally very nice and helpful, you still come across the odd idiot here and there but that is the same as every work place. But I would advise anyone to avoid at all costs, especially trainee nurses if you are looking for any real experience and training look elsewhere you will just be thrown in the deep end from day one with no -

Comfortable & stability

I worked for bhandals for 10 years did my training with them and stayed on. It was very good i enjoyed it at first got comfortable and became senior. The dentists i worked with were lovely & easy going. However you could get the odd moody one when you go cover certain places. They just aint greatful they got help. I left due to poor management. When i started the managers were good enough. In the last 2-3 years after some management left newbies came on board nurses that were promoted & it went down hill as they didnt have management skills they just let the power get to their head. Some of them are ok if you catch them on a good day. Over all bhandals was a easy comfortable working environment. Stability was the best. Made great friends aswell. Generally nurses are nice there. Alot of the long standing members have left due to poor management now. It was good whilst it lasted!

Pros

Comfortable, stability, easy going work space

Cons

Pay rate could be improved, Management needs to improve!

great company to work for

I worked for the company between 2015-2018 and had no issues. I left as i moved to work in a hospital setting. The pay was reasonable, long hours but its what is expected from a full time job (44 hours a week over 6 days). Ive read other reviews left on the company however my thoughts are that it seems that people have problems with following managerial instructions. If you dont like being told/asked what to do maybe working for someone else is not for you and you should own your own business. Would return to the company if my current job did not succeed..

Pros

understanding company when personal issues come to light and time needed off at short notice

Cons

6 days per week

Fun enviroment

Bhandals Dental practice is an exciting company to work for depending on which practice you are working in. Majority of practices are really nice and the best thing are the employees, they treat you like family. However the B side to things is the management at Bhandals is very dissapointing, they dont liase with you at all its either their way or no way and I found that to be very unfair. The area branch manager is like a vehicle, if there is no TLC on your side first they wont care about you or your progression. A day at Bhandals as a receptionist starts off by answering the telephone calls as soon as they ring and book patients in upon arrival. The detist will send you a message through your computer detailing what appointment needs to be made for the patient beforethey leave the surgery. You then pick a time and date for the patient or negotiate a certain date where they can happily and comfortable attend their appointments. The banking must be done everyday at the end of each working day. Stock checks must be carried out on a weekly basis and cleaning the practice was a must. The hardest part about the job was management. I felt at the time when i was working there that they dont care about you they just want you to get the job done. If you are genuinly unwell on a certain dayand cal in sick to work. The manager would give you are hard time about it which is really disgusting in my opinion.

Terrible all round

Hard work with no gain. Dentists were super rude to their assistants . Workplace culture was and is probably still the same in the fact that most of the assistants are very rude. They laugh at you because you're new and wont even give you a place to sit at lunch so you have to go outside because their is nowhere else for you. There was no enjoyable part of the job. It was all round awful.

Pros

Free checkups

Cons

not long term enough

I worked at their tenbury wells practice so never went to meet the bhandal at cradley. unfortunately the dentist and therapist didn't like me and complained about my work made me feel awful. so I got told to go and work at a different practice far away from home and left. I've been a qualified dental nurse since the 1990s and was treated bad at tenbury.

Pros

nice local job

Cons

nasty people at tenbury

busy practice

Working here was enjoyable but very long hours, staff were pleasant and keeping busy was much better than sitting around doing nothing.

Great work place

I learned a lot at bhandals easy to get along with other workers very friendly . I learned how to do the dental nurse side of the job even though I was a receptionist. Workers there always helped me if I needed any help as I was new and it was my first job.

Pros

lunch breaks hour

Cons

6 days a week
