Good place to work
Waitress (Current Employee) - Sheffield, South Yorkshire - 17 November 2023
Indeed featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedAbsolutely adore the majority of the staff here, however some managers are quite patronising and often have unrealistic expectations of how much one can handle then when they run a section and make mistakes or can’t handle it, it’s a different story.

Jobs at Bill's Restaurants
Fun workplace
Assistant Manager (Former Employee) - Woking, Surrey - 14 November 2023
Fun place to work - very high standards but you get so much more back. It was all about the guest and the quality of food and excellent training for team members. I look at my time working here as one of the best jobs I ever had

Good it got closed
Waiter (Former Employee) - High Street Kensington Station - 11 November 2023
Everything was fine up to the moment they changed management. They expect the world of you but that wont translate into your salary. People who would be the most "pleasing" towards management would get the better pay and circumstances.

Don’t work here.
Waitress/Bar Staff (Former Employee) - Braintree, Essex - 3 November 2023
Managers can’t control it. At all. They have favourites. Only praise people that get reviews. Not those that actually do their job correctly. So much drama between the staff. Put in multiple complaints. All of a sudden they just disappeared. Staff turnover is ridiculous the amount they are hiring should tell you enough. The supervisors talk about how they go out drinking with the waiters. It’s so unprofessional. Impossible to get hold of HR yourself via email only a phone number but they don’t answer. You have to go through management who next to refuse to send anything to HR. it’s a toxic environment to work. End of
Pros
Free food

Management. Everything else.

Decent place to work
Waitress (Former Employee) - Horsham, West Sussex - 19 October 2023
Worked here for over a year, the pay is alright in line with other chains and the staff are friendly. Management recently switched so not settled yet but can be extremely busy and managers were not great at motivating or caring for staff during busy periods.

Total change in culture
General Manager (Former Employee) - York - 10 October 2023
Everything changed when investment came along- no longer authentic to original principles of the company and culture and everything became revenue driven and focused

Worst experience of my life, think I’d rather break my leg
Server/Waitress (Former Employee) - Liverpool, Merseyside - 1 October 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The worst place I’ve ever worked in my 30 years of life. 12 hour back to back shifts with less than 8 hours in between and a service charge that DOSE NOT go to staff. They say it goes towards staff party’s and into your pay but they cheap out on that once a year Christmas party and you get maybe an extra 20p hourly if you’re lucky ? All depends on how much management likes you because the person next to you could be earning way more for the same amount of work. Much worse I could add on from my own personal experience but I’ll keep it general. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Everything. Lack of sleep, money, horrible management and HR, everything. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Depressing, stressful , we used to go cry in the storage room What is a typical day like for you at the company? Going in for a 8-8 shift when you didn’t ge to chime until about 2am the night before because you closed alone only to have management to “go the bank” and come back with shopping and then have their lunch so you missed opportunity to go on a break while it was quite and now have to wait until your shift is nearly over to eat.

Average
Server (Current Employee) - London, Greater London - 1 October 2023
It’s your average waiting job some good things but make it difficult to get staff discounts. Long hours about 5-7% of the service goes to you which h

Good pay but can do better
Chef (Current Employee) - York City Centre, North Yorkshire - 25 September 2023
They pay very well but the quality of food is worst than ever before, same goes for the equipment and tools in the kitchen, half of the equipment is broken. Chefs not properly trained. Very busy place so if you cant manage stress just dont bother to work here.

Good team environment
Waiter (Former Employee) - Cardiff City Centre, Cardiff - 19 September 2023
High expectations meant alot of pressure at times. Some of the managers were not the nicest but I got on with most of the waiters. Worked during covid so things have probably changed

Productive and fun
Front of House Staff (Former Employee) - Manchester City Centre, Greater Manchester - 19 September 2023
Great staff and a great company, long hours but given regular breaks. Work here a while ago and they worked around my uni schedule. Good enough pay, can’t complain

Long shifts and rude management
Shifts at Bill’s are often 12+ hours and strenuous as there is often a lack of staff on shift. They will cut hours where possible to save money and if you are on a part time 8hr+ contract you cam expect to be working anywhere between 30 to 50 hours a week. The managers will often sit aside chatting with each other or friends who visit during the day, even when the restaurant is busy. If you call in sick expect to be berated and belittled. Don’t even get me started on the hygiene!! FLIES EVERYWHERE!!!
Pros
Good Kitchen Staff, Nice Food
Cons
Long hours, Bad management, Unpaid breaks, Strenuous

understaffed
Waitress (Former Employee) - London, Greater London - 7 August 2023
Understaffed and chaotic, but the members of staff were supportive and friendly to work with. Was often only one waitress in the floor, so that could be intense

Lovely co workers but a horrible company
They expect you to take on roles and never really up your pay. You don’t get the service charge. Management for what I can gather got treat poorly by the company which made it harder for them to help us. Everything is always broken. Try and make you work even if you’ve just thrown up. The culture is toxic, as your expected to never stop and if you do you get judged/ gossiped about. However the team can be really supportive depending who you are working with on the day. The staff food is nice and you get coffee/tea for free, I wouldn’t say it’s worth the sacrifice but it softens the blow a bit.
Pros
Free food and coffee/tea
Cons
Long hours, bad management

It needs to go back to its true roots.
Assistant General Manager (Former Employee) - West Midlands - 20 July 2023
I loved my time with Bill’s as an AGM and being given the responsibility of working with and supporting other sites, as well as building up workplace friendships that have carried on even when my site was closed. A lot more sites have closed and it’s not the company it once was. They need to stop focusing on the things that aren’t their USP, and avoid the cliches. There’s a proverbial wall of stuff that’s stuck but at the bottom of that wall is a huge pile of what hasn’t. Stop chasing the buzz and create your own. Changes should be few and far between not week by week with a revolving door of who’s gone and who’s come in. We’re all people and there is an irony to the surname of the owner when he doesn’t have that quality in investing in what can work well.
Pros
Free food, strong work life balance, a great team, the guests.
Cons
The changes, the constant changes, the upper management, the direction of the company.

Hard work
Food and Beverage Assistant (Former Employee) - North London, Greater London - 11 July 2023
Goood but it is hard work and you get tired very quickly. Pay is good if you are working longer hours and if you enjoy walking around a lot while carrying food then this job is for you

Avoid at all costs
Waitress (Former Employee) - Hertfordshire - 29 June 2023
Don't bother- you will regret The branch I worked at has since shut down which really says alot about how poor the management was and the company is. Don't care about their employees at all! You work insane hours and for low money. You DONT get the full service charge you earn in a day- but they make you tell the customers you do!!!! They even introduced 'do you get the service charge' as a mystery shopper question so that they could catch out which team members told the customers they don't- this is the kind of company it is!!!
