Amazing job let down by poor management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
My career started with BCHC and I loved every minute with my colleagues. If the Trust was run by the staff I never would have left, but poor management and lack of progression meant I had to look elsewhere.

Pros

Staff and colleagues were the best I've ever met

Cons

Lack of career progression

Mostly a good trust.

I enjoy my job and like my colleagues. There is a lot of other departments that aren't so good to work for. I have had the misfortune to work in those during redeployment in covid times. The rehab wards management don't appreciate their staff or the hcas, nurses etc. They micro manage the staff, hence a lot of unhappy staff. A lot of leavers too but the penny hasn't dropped yet! There's a lot of bad managers, toxic people who work in this trust. They seem to do well here and progress up the bands. The trust has lost a good deal of great staff, admin, clinical etc too. These people have given their exit interviews but it doesn't change things! Why haven't the directors noticed the high turnover in certain places and investigated. The dental dept seems to be a deffinate toxic place to work.

None inclusive culture

Too many managers who have no idea about clinical responsibility. A top down culture which is exclusive of clinical opinion. This leads to the risk of patient experience and safety

Pros

Good colleagues

Cons

Too many managers

Worst company I have ever worked for

Constantly work extra hours without pay. Very little support. Always doing work above my pay grade. Management doesn’t listen. Very discriminatory. Very isolating

Cons

No work life balance

Fast paced

Overall decent place to work - some improvements could be made but I believe these are in the pipeline. A lot of good people people, working hard for jobs they are passionate about

Not bad

Not a bad place to work. Wages are poor. Understaffed due to high levels of sickness and morale is low but some great staff work here who go above and beyond

Busy

Busy fast paced working environment. Staff and colleagues supportive and helpful. Pay doesn’t make up for the responsibilities and work you undertake.

Enjoyed my work here

I worked in special school nursing within a team of nurses and support workers. Training was provided and I felt supported in my role at all times by the Team Leader.

Pros

Free lunch

Cons

Lots of bending to provide personal care

Support nurse

Great friendly place to work. Can be long hours but you can work half days. Loved my job working with Birmingham community nhs, just ashame of all the government cut backs. The main people it hit is the patients but also affected staff. Worked part time contract and banking the rest, waited years for a full time contract that never came because of the cut backs.

Pros

Can work round family/home life.

Cons

Long hours at times

Trained to a high skill level in Clinical Skills.

Great place to learn clinical skills. Management can be very supportive if you can get their attention. I work nights which can be challenging but rewarding.

Good people

Worked for them as a member of the Domestic team on bank staff. This Trust has a lot of good people working for them, especially at West Heath Hospital. They look out for you and make sure you are supported in your role.

Stressful workplace

I could not plan my life, was getting my rota only on Friday to know what hours I will be working the next weekManagement will dismiss your ideas for improvement and will be rude to youThere is a toxic environment where you feel guilty for being sick, as they are so short staffed, and they will not believe you are sick, and you will be shouted at

Pros

Opportunity for bank shifts

Cons

Lack of organisation, rude management that will shout at you

Poor company to work for

Unfortunately bchc are loosing many staff due to how they are treated and constant demands on their existing employees many (myself included) are either wanting to leave the trust or are looking for jobs. Sadly as is the case with some companies, management from higher up call the shots with little regard for the staff whom they employ.

Pros

None

Cons

No work life balance, favouritism, management

Stress

Such a stressful environment. More managers than employees, no/very little opportunity for advancement. They work you to get every penny out of you, no team moral. Managers gossip about employees, very unprofessional environment. Nothing is confidential.Such a horrible, hostile environment to work in.

Lovely place to work

BCHC is very friendly place to work. All the RN'S were so kind and always put their staff members needs as a priority. HR department people are so nice always gives you best advice if you ask for one.

Autocratic management / unfriendly workers

High blame culture / antiquated systems and ways of working / blame culture and constant micromanagement from line management. If you want to enjoy working - this is not the place for you!!

Very relaxing place to work.

The staff is a joy to work with and understand team work and the management team is not in your face or on your back constantly but always there to give support when needed.

Pros

45 mins. for lunch instead of 30 mins.
