Indeed featured review

There's a lot of people in charge so often jobs get passed down which. can be difficult if you need something important sorting. It can be quite relaxed though depending on the position. There's nice staff who work there but you won't get any advancements or praise for your good work. If you like a job to stay under the radar and just to get a job then this could work for you. They pay on time and they pay better than other private places.

Management with old fashioned views, unwilling to change.

Competitive Salary, modern office, friendly co-workers.Professional fees paid for.ConsJobs are advertised as flexible working when in practice, this is not encouraged.Management refuses to allow people to do hybrid work more than one day a week, like other local councils.Upper management is unapproachable and does not care about the workers. Only hear from them when something has gone wrong. Some middle management can be very caring and understanding but unable to do much to help people.Car parking is very expensive and prices increase quite often.High caseloads, problems with staff being off sick long term. Those still there have to pick up the slack which causes more burnout and others going off sick themselves.Management is slow to recruit new staff after people leave and very slow to recruit agency workers to help in the short term.Advice to ManagementShow more recognition of your workers. Recognise the hard work they do, even by talking to them once in a while... it can go a long way and doesn't take much effort.Be more understanding of your worker's personal situations. If you are looking for a place that allows you to have a healthy work-life balance, do not apply here... unless you are happy to come into the office every day.

Incredibly stressful

As a carer for Blackpool you can expect permanent stress, people examining your home and telling you how to live constantly, poor pay, you work 365 days of the year with no sick or holiday pay. You can expect to be put on lots of courses to make you professional whilst having no professional voice. Career progression is very hard and almost impossible. You are not supported very well, and will be taken advantage of if the people above you sense your new.

Pros

There are no pros for you, the only thing you can take from the job is to know you have helped a child in need.

Cons

Too many to list

Too many managers bluffing their way with idiotic proposals.

I worked within a busy stores and procurement section that was successful in delivering a good service to all users. I ran the service for nearly 23 years and over that time we never fell short of our targets unless management moved the goalposts with our service charges etc. As the manager of this section I was proud to work with my colleagues and support them as and when needed. We had a good team until a reshuffle of staff and senior management. My newly appointed manager had little knowledge of how a stores should to be run and in short carved it up so that I was the only person left. I was expected to cover everything from the yard duties, deliveries, issuing at the counter, stock control, purchasing basically everything my team and had previously done. I was completely drained physically and emotionally and my only option was to apply for voluntary redundancy with getting absolutely no support from anyone. I have since relocated back to the South West and its great to be home again but my many years of working with Blackpool Council is now a memory I sooner forget. Shocking how they can treat workers in such a way and get away with it...

Pros

Flexi time

Cons

Poorly managed at some senior levels

Good place to work

Blackpool Council is a good place to work. The staff are really generous and kind. The work is easy and the equipment is quick. I recommend you working on Project Search.

Good workplace

Work was always busy. There is always something to do. When not on pool I was cleaning - there is a lot of cleaning tasks to be completed through out the day. Could be better equipment too clean with, but unfortunately the budget is limited.

Pros

Free gym membership

Cons

Hot tempertaure on poolside during summer, especially when cleaning

Unprofessional, archaic and a culture of bullying

I experienced a culture of bullying and lying within an office clique. A lot of brown-nosing managers and some managers did not know how to manage their own staff. A blatant lack of care for mental health issues - in fact, they drove the knife in further. Service users names were frequently mocked and there was a lack of compassion towards impoverished service users. I came across people in my team who did not know how to copy and paste, use a search bar and one person could not even add up. Any helpful suggestions on improvements to processes to increase efficiency were dismissed. I would only recommend working at the council for the money, however, the lack of job security due to the cliquey work environment is enough to warn you off.

Not an enjoyable experience

Wouldn’t recommend working here, to many chiefs and not enough Indians. Managers with big ego’s and favourites. A well known bully culture in certain areas of the council.

Stressful

Every day i interact with customers from beginning to end. When facing difficulties management often take the customers side and are unhelpful. Therefore, i would not recommenced working for Blackpool Council. The most enjoyable part of this job is working with certain colleagues

An In-depth insight into the disabled community

My time working as a personal assistant was beneficial and eye opening as I learnt how those with visual impairment go about their daily lives. Not only did I enjoy assisting this person but I can genuinely say I formed a bond with someone I would not have encountered without this job opportunity

Good workplace

For such a large workplace you are made to feel welcome straight away! It is a difficult job but once nailed it’s just second nature. Very fairly paid for a student

Friendly staff, easy job.

Working as a lifeguard has allowed me to make fast decisions under pressure, maintain concentration, and improve my team working skills. My position as a lifeguard has further developed my communication skills and enables me to be confident in my ability to help people, as well as being approachable and personable. Blackpool Council ensured they follow the law on how long a lifeguard is on poolside, and provided other tasks such as sports hall setup and general cleaning to keep the working day interesting.

Easy workplace

My job was simple yet very enjoyable, working with customers on the ropes course or doing maintenance. Management was acceptable and people in the work place were easy to get along with.

Potentially great place to work

Great new state of the art building with air conditioning, lots of room. Location excellent very central for public transport and the town centre. Good atmosphere, friendly helpful colleagues. Not easy to take full ownership of the work.
