Hard, rewarding job

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
No 2 days are the same. You could have a straightforward call of personal care and making meals and drinks to having to call an ambulance for emergency care the next

Pros

Company car if yours breaks down

Cons

Long hours, use of own car, training

If you like to be stressed and underpaid this is the workplace for you.

What is the best part of working at the company? The customers kept me going through the short period I worked for the Gateshead branch. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The management, who want tasks completed you are not trained in. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Very clicky, management are sisters which makes a difficult environment What is a typical day like for you at the company?Stressful, expected to work round the clock for minimal wage.

Do not work here

At a first glance i thought this company was great and seemed management seemed friendly. This could not have been as far from the truth. At the interview they do not inform you that you will be doing more than you have signed up for and if i was told this in the interview i would not have taken the job! The management were mostly unfriendly and unhelpful and do not value their staff at all. Working hours are ridiculous, expected to work split shift's on weekend's with little to no down time and then finish at 10PM and start again at 7AM and by the time you have driven home from work and unwound from the stressful shift you hardly get any sleep! Since this is caring for other people and you need to be fully awake and ready for your shift this seems very unfair on carer's and also service user's as they are not getting the full care that they need. I would not apply to this job as you will be sold fake promises and that will all become clear very quickly. Fuel money is also not enough to cover most cost's of how much travel you will be doing hence they pay a good amount to hide how much of that will actually be going on fuel! And dont expect to be working in your home town as they will rota you as far as possible and then expect you to travel in your own time to and from work

Pros

None

Cons

Long hours, unfair pay, rude staff

Ok

Supported by management but long hours with a lot of unpaid travel time. Out the house for 50+ hours a week to be paid for 25-30 hours. Hourly rate higher than a lot of companies

Bluebird Inverclyde and Renfrewshire are an awful company to work for.

Bluebird Inverclyde and Renfrewshire are an awful company to work for. They harrass you on your days off to come in and work and then are incredibly rude if you decline, had 15hour shifts 8 days in a row with practically no breaks and then got a phone call on my one day off asking me to work and was told I wasn't a team player when I said no. Management is out of touch and has no care for their staff. My wages would constantly come in late and wrong and they would kick their feet when fixing it and make you feel bad about wanting to be paid your fair wage.

Best Job Ever.

I have worked for Bluebird care since May 2022. I have had lovely experiences since joining. I have had lots of training given to me. If you would like to work as part of a great team who are extremely supportive and kind then Bluebird Care is for you. I have also had lot's of career development in the last year also which has enabled me to grow as a person and also widen my knowledge within the care sector. This company is awesome, the pay is really good and with all your travel time paid what more could you ask for?

Pros

Paid travel time, work around your availability, kind, caring and family orientated.

Not great to work for

Lovely customers but office constantly call for extra work. You don't get any time to get between places. Very long hours. Always overworked. If you drive they send you all over everywhere and don't give much back for fuel costs. Not a nice company to work for

Pros

80p incentive bonus if you have no time off or don't hand any work back

Cons

Long hours, call you up all the time for extra work, no time to get between places

Manger is amazing

Typical work for Dom care, can be stressful at times but that’s the nature of work. Manger is amazing and will help with anything needed. All you have to do is ask. If your straight up and honest it’s a perfect place to work

Pros

Free tea and coffee at the office

Cons

Long days but that’s Dom care

Care Assistant

A lot of pressure to pick up more hours. The customers were the most enjoyable part of the job. There was no communication between the management and the carers. The training given was the minimum . The payments were full of mistakes. The lead carers tried to do their best and they were lovely. The coordination team was in a mission to make the shifts as difficult as they could be. All those resulted in a tremendous staff turn over with most of the good carers leaving for another company within a year.

Pros

Some lovely colleagues. Lovely customers.

Cons

5 minute travel time. Always wrong mileage. Pay roll was disastrous.

Lovely place to work

I have worked with Bluebird for 3 years, starting out in the community and then offered to take a step up on my career. Ive been made to feel extremely welcome right from the start. The support is second to none whether it comes from the management or care staff, everyone is there for each other.

just like a lot of care jobs

I joined bluebird years ago due to people saying a lot about it such as being a wonderful company and their high rating from the care quality commission. I applied for the job and the interview was relatively normal for care companies. Gained information about a person well. I was told I got the job soon after and could not start for a few weeks as that was when the training was which is fair enough. Training long but informative and a lot to take in but knowing care prior, it was refreshing. The staff were very lovely when joining and understanding and listening. They were very keen to get me working and offering a lot of hours. There are some office staff who are very helpful and always at the other end of the phone-mean it and always listening. Some of them you do feel like they are not there for you or don’t want to help you. The rotas change ever so often and can literally change on the day sometimes. They do not always stick to your availability but you are expected to do it anyways. Often asking if you can help and do more work on the day or on other days but that’s okay if you want more money. But this is like a lot of care companies I have been with. Lovely customers and some lovely staff members. Can be a very stressful job and there are the positives and negatives and over the years I have worked here they all shine through.

Pros

Lovely people, listening office staff, flexible

Cons

Long hours, not always open armed, rota changes

Lovely to work for

I really enjoy working for Bluebird Care Belper , I have worked for them for 4yrs , I recently had to leave due to family commitments and went elsewhere and literally have come straight back . I spoke to the owner and he kindly sorted out my hours so I can look after my Mum, the whole team are lovely and really helpful . The customers we visit are appreciative of our professionalism and our kindness and our high standards of care . I would have no qualms in recommending Bluebird to work for or to look after your precious loved ones.

Pros

Always try to help you

Cons

Can’t think of any as it’s a nice place to work
