Terrible management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Typical day included no support from management, they had a horrible attitude and didn’t like staff members being friends however the pay is okay if you don’t mind working weekends. Wasn’t giving the opportunity to do training for my position after 3 months either

Pros

Pay is okay

Cons

Management

Depressing

I worked briefly with Boots as a in store cleaner and I was thankful for the opportunity, but it was so depressing and stressful at the same time too.

Pros

One hour of work and payed weekly.

Cons

Embarrassed and drained.

Minimal training

At Truro boots Cornwall, I did all the online training including fire risks etc, following that they put me behind the pharmacy counter where I had to deal with patients. I hardly knew any of the answers due to not be sufficiently trained in these scenarios and had hardly anyone to guide me. Customes would get angry. Lazy lazy management.

most enjoyable part of the job is helping a customer who was struggling and says thanks always makes my day

Poor environment, poor management, mange only ever speaks to you ,when you did something wrong never told good job on that, people always going behind your back and reporting you for stuff which is made up and not true, not everyone is your friend, some are back stables no respect for what you do, management is rude and not very carrying in helping you when you have a problem with on line learning, to busy talking and not enough helping out when need to be, always short staff due to some of the staff who already work their not showing the new ones what to do and their attuide towards the new ones is why nobody want's to work their in the first place, the most enjoyable part of the job is helping a customer who was struggling and says thanks always makes my day

Pros

its a job pays the bills

Cons

Poor environment, poor management

One of the better retail employers who actually do train their staff.

What is the best part of working at the company?Friendly and helpful staff, no keepers of the sacred knowledge. They weren’t interested in keeping you ignorant of processes just to make themselves look good. Was a good employer, just needed more hours. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Didn’t really have one at this location. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Pretty good as far as I could see. Didn’t have any experience with bullying or harassment so that’s a win for me.

Gossipy, stressful and understaffed with poor management

Gossipy culture amongst majority of colleagues(seemingly spurred on by management), unnecessarily stressful work environment caused by management and many issues that could be avoided with a supportive and competent management team. Other colleagues are expected to fully train you but a lot of them aren't fully trained themselves and don't like the idea of training others so you receive very little support as you're on-boarding. Will be left alone, well before passing probation, on the retail floor to manage 3 different points of sale, 2 different services offered to customers, their in-depth enquiries (the nature of some of the purchases/customers requires a lot of help from staff), complete daily tasks and also keep an eye on the rampant shoplifting for the majority of the day. This is because there aren't enough hours to fully staff the shop and there isn't always a manager or supervisor present to help out, when they are present they send the majority of the day well away from the shop floor. Very manual work, would not recommend if you have limited mobility or lifting as there is very little compassion and no opportunity to swap tasks with other staff members if you are struggling, even if you both agree to it. Will skip making reasonable adjustments to the work day and go straight to urging you to resign, citing that if you just can't handle it then maybe you should leave. There is also a group chat that gets messaged at least once a day and quite regularly gets messaged out of hours, granted usually about work stuff, but if you want to find some work/life balance then -

Horrid ,you cannot work comfortably when you can not feel your hands and feet and every second all you can think about is how cold you are.

What is the best part of working at the company? The company i worked for within boots was great, however boots its self did not care one bit that the staff froze in the beauty hall by the main auto doors ,they just did not care about the staff or do anything about it when we complained every winter . Terrible and impossible to work happily in a freezing cold enviroment. The company has no empathy or concern for staff .What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The cold and lack of company/,management empathy in regards to the cold working environment .What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Not great .Did not listen to concerns or do anything about it when complaint were made and even when refit happened they did not address the cold problem ,just made it worse. What is a typical day like for you at the company?OK in summer ,loved working for my beauty company but from sept the cold started and Xmas to march unbelievably cold enviroment that made each day a nightmare and they (boots) just did not care we suffered, while management sat In warm offices.

Very Stressful

I found that at my store, the management were terrible. A lot of my training wouldn't have happened if I hadn't told another member of staff that I hadn't had it while my manager was on holiday. I was one of two people who worked in my department when I started and wasn't told when the other person reduced their hours/ moved to a different department until the week of me leaving. When we had sales plans to do, most of the time we weren't given enough time to complete them and would then feel forced to stay later to make sure everything got finished. I was lucky that I only had to work later on a sales plan day once but for some of my colleagues, they were staying hours after our shifts finished (21:30) and not getting their time back or being paid for it.After working there for a month and a half, I left as I was lucky enough to get another job lined up on very short notice. I know there are people still working at my specific store who are also looking to leave because they don't like the work environment or how much work has been put on them.I was sad to leave friends behind but after having anxiety almost everyday about going into work, I'm very glad I left.I want to end this with saying that this is just one experience at one store. I was lucky enough to go to a conference and meet other Boots employees who absolutely love what they do. Don't take my experience as the be all and end all because ultimately, if you need a job and Boots offer you one, the pay is good and it doesn't have to be forever.

Pros

Good work culture

Cons

High stress

Horrible place to work

Worst job I’ve ever had management treat members of staff like the dirt on their shoe the benefit counter manager is incredibly rude and selfish does not have any manners what’s so ever, only negative things said by management what we’re doing so wrong never any positives extreme pressure to hit sales targets, I would not recommend this place to anyone to work, the management and 1 staff have made at least three to four people cry in the time I worked there, they never approve time off, they also speak in their own language which is fine but not professional at all. I have heard comments on the way people look and disregard for customers opinions and needs, the benefit counter is extremely selfish and honestly the most pointless job in boots. Overall not a good place to work very draining and took a toll on my mental health.

Good agency

What is the best part of working at the company?Worked very good with this agency. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Didn't experience any stress with this agency.

Its okay

Customers tend to see glasses as a product and not as a medical thing and therefore will sometimes be abusive when told they can not use out of date prescriptions, managers like to either hide round back or tell us "not to get stressed" as a solution to stress, on good days it is an amazing place to work, but those are rare nowadays,

Pros

Discount on glasses

Cons

Treated like a cog in a machine

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Always worry whether your scheduled rest day will be cancelled and therefore can’t have ahead planning. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Clean, tidy and safe. Encourage respectful culture What is a typical day like for you at the company?Follow orders to pick up items from racks within the warehouse
