Bad management

Indeed featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Very little support when struggling. Only had one manager out of a team of people who gave me the bare minimum of the support I needed and still need currently.

A lot of work

Cuts to local budgets has put a freeze on hiring sufficient staff. As the years have gone by more and more work has been introduced and the workload is now massive. It is still possible to get everything done but only just.

Good job but no support or progression

When hired for the job you will only be able to do that. I enjoyed the job but there is little to no support for progression or improvement. The environment is very clique and if you don't fit in you won't be comfortable working there.

Enjoyable and rewarding work

Enjoyable, rewarding work ruined by poor management. Little consideration for work life balance.Potential to be a great job if the management improves

Good workplace

It’s a good place to work. They allow for flexible working which is incredibly useful. They also allow for completely working in the office, if that is something you prefer.

Ok. Could be better

Lovely job stressful at times. Staff good. Manager in home not very nice and speak to staff really bad so big staff turnover. Holidays hard to have, good training and reasonable rates of pay.

Supportive and no micromanaging

Best place I’ve worked love my team and feel empowered to manage my own workload. Hybrid working and lone working however always someone on hand to support and guide me when needed

Home care

No work life balance,7 day rotation before a day off ,changes to rota a lot . One the plus sides love keeping people as independent as possible in order for them to safely stay in their own homes for as long as possible.

Not a bad place to work.

It was a nice job, very relaxed atmosphere and adequate support from management. I felt trusted and not micromanaged. I have worked for other local authorities and BCBC were the best to work for. The main thing that lets them down is the low pay compared to others.

Very poor and unsupportive work culture. Senior managers quite happy to throw staff under the bus when needed!

Awful Experience from start to finish

From originally applying for an Assistant Cook position with a Bridgend School it took about 12 weeks to actually be given a start date.I was continually chasing them for information. Eventually I started, only to be told after a week that they shouldn't have allowed me to work until my DBS check was back. They knew this when I started!Anyway,I'd already decided it wasn't for me.I was made to feel stupid and the staff were very patronising.I was 'taught' how to sweep in a certain way! There was hardly any interaction with the poor kiddies, they were so rushed through their dinner, many didn't have time to finish. It was just like a factory line. Not friendly and a nice experience for children.Put me off paying for my own children's dinner when I saw what they get served! After leaving I didn't receive my weeks pay,as was told I couldn't get it without my dbs!

Pros

Hours fit around family

Cons

Patronising staff Made to feel stupid Unwelcoming Awful customer service/interview process

Good workplace

A good place to work for work/life balance. Generous policies for sickness and family emergencies. A lot depends upon your immediate line manager. If they are supportive then your experience will be good.

Pros

Generous holiday allowance Generous petrol allowance flexitime

Cons

Difficult to progress once at a certain level

Absolute dump beware you will probably need a stab proof vest to work here so many back stabbers.

This place is run like an underground organisation management are corrupt & if you're face don't fit you've got no chance, half the work force are just on a jolly most days.95% of workforce are tossers who think their important the other 5% are used & abused. Accidents are rife. No wonder the borough is in such a mess with this motley crew.

Pros

None

Cons

Getting injuries & stress

A great time of my life

Loved working for BCBC. Very friendly team and excellent support network when required. As with many jobs the pay could always be better, however my love of the job was enough for me.

No support from management

I worked in a busy area of HR. Lots of colleagues were struggling and ended up on sick leave. When I went on sick leave, despite numerous attempts to ask for help, I was forced to come back to work and made to feel guilty by management. All they care about is bums on seats, they don't care about you as a person!

Fun and productive workplace

Good, but development investment was not very good and its a slow moving environment generally due to the amount of red tape involved. Threat of redundancy always around the corner. However the people were great, very flexible. Great as a working mum. The public can be aggressive and uncompromising to staff.
